  1. Probably the best news one could ask for on a chilly Friday morning. Great stuff!
  2. Nice. Meanwhile, the mods are probably hard at work deleting away content on some Chit Chat thread about chafing cream or something...
  3. Just had to do that, didn't you? Seems like your intolerance and hostility towards others, be it cyclists, "blacks" or even your fiancee (yah, the one who was the subject of your previous rant...) knows no bounds. YOU - should chill-out buddy .

Well you’re not Oprah so nobody expects that from you. However, I do indeed hope that you would stop and take pity in a young man with a piece of bike in his leg, telling him he’s doing well and boosting his ego…no matter what the effect on your race results.

You are right…stories about these riders being called assholes do keep surfacing...Similarly, we keep hearing stories where slower riders are victimised and in some cases, abused by time-chasers. In fact…these incidents have now become part of every single race. And that’s the problem. Chasing a good time is one thing but a good time at the expense of the safety of another rider is totally unacceptable…then you become an asshole.

I strongly disagree. You get competitive riding, and you get assholes…And they did not just pass the kid and his mother at high speed (which, I’m sure the kid would have admired rather than call “mal”) - a “high-level” rider bumped this kid off his bike almost killing him. I think it is exactly this attitude that is breeding the generation of reckless and arrogant cyclists that we see more and more at races. We don’t need those kinds of people in the sport.
  8. I'm subscribed to Bicycling for the purposed of supporting a local magazine focused on the sport I love. Other than that, I find its content sometimes without substance and all too often repeating (be sure to catch your annual “Ride your best 94.7” article in the October / November edition and your “Kill the ARGUS” in the Feb / March edition). To be fair, I think it’s pretty hard to stay fresh and current when you have to fill 100+ pages with cycling-related subject matter monthly (perhaps that’s where the ads come in… ) . Thread is cool and I love Full Sus.
  9. So so sad and so close to home - I rode down there literally half and hour before this incident...could have been me. RIP buddy, so tragic! And any driver overtaking in the yellow line on this section of road is a criminal...
  10. On a somewhat related note - what is the common etiquette for joining a club ride as a "visitor"? I once decided to do a Saturday morning training ride with a well-known Pretoria club, with the intention of possibly joining up (stroes Bob, I’m not just saying this… ). Dressed in a kit most resembling their club shirts as to not stand out like a sore thumb, I ventured down, introduced myself and asked around about the club, fees and rides. Man, was I met with blank stares and cold shoulders. After about 60km and one too many “who is this stranger in our midst” look I broke away to finish the ride on my own. I never did join the club.
  11. Do a search on CRC on here...quite a few threads that discuss all the detail re import taxes and shipping fees. I agree with jcza, import tax is just too much and you will end up paying more than local prices, which is unfortunate because you don't find the same variety of products locally at all. (p.s - I have a friend who travels to the UK every now and then - when I need something from CRC or Wiggle I have it delivered to an adress over there and my buddy brings it back).
  12. Did you buy these from CRC Blackheart, or locally?
  13. Yep, I have two 5 year old Assos bibs that did some heaavvyyy duty, and besides for the fact that they have now started to fade to a nice vintage grey they are still perfectly fine for riding.
  14. To add on to what you are saying, I suspect it is also a matter of different bibs for different bums...I once borrowed a R2500 De Marchi bib from a friend for a long ride and after 20km I had to turn back because of the chafing and terribly uncomfy fit. Similarly, you will find lower priced bibs that just works for you and which will see you through many comfortable hours on the bike. Best to find the brand, and fit that works for you.
  15. Still some months away but if you can, check out specials at 94.7 expo. Nalini, Santini, MOA and even Giordana bibs are good value for money and super durable. The Ftech gear at ASG is also good value apparel. If you are willing to fork out a few hundred extra rands, invest in at least one Castelli or Assos bib, especially for longer rides or races. Yah they are very pricey but they will literally last for years and one really notice the difference after 5 hours in the saddle...
  16. So sad - RIP fellow cyclist...
  17. Hoe dit ookal sy, dis bitter jammer. Always liked Daryl.
  18. ' Agreed...Heartbreak, Pooks and the rest will not be kind to cold legs...On the other hand, the climb just after the M1 turn-off in Houghton used to have the same split effect on the bunches on the previous route. Think the race times will be very similar to previous years, considering also the exclusion of the windy N14.
  19. Thats quite a drastic change ito start and finish. Places heartbreak hill and other challenging climbs towards the beginning of the race rather than the end - I wonder how that would pan out ito bunch regrouping and race strategies. Very interesting.
  20. Blomfontein Farm, near Sutherland. Karoo...I would not mind being there right now (even though it's freezing cold)...
  21. Gummi I see on their website that this R22k baby is sold out?
  22. This... ...is one haaaaaaaawt watch! Doit...
  23. Goosebumps stuff, this. My ouma always said "as jy met 'n oop hand gee, sal jy met 'n oop hand ontvang" and I have found this to be true in every single situation... Massive respect to you and the Hub community.
