  1. After riding a couple of transbaviaans and Attakwas events all that gels do is upset your tummy. A combination of energy drink, water and some coke at the tables is all you need.I feel that people do not realise the importance of WATER. Yes keep a gel for emergencies but stick to normal food-salty patatoes. As with all major products the suppliers will promise the world but deliver little. Gels are a expensive eye blinder. Training is the answer
  2. Daai drop in na die rivier by Spur, ek ry so 3/4 en loop maar laaste paar meter. Daar is nog baie racing daarna. Wonder hoe sterk loop daai rivier
  3. Come on Atta no 4 If all goes well hoping for around 7 hour mark. Thats if we dont have a heat wave...........................
  4. About back up drivers--No you can race without -no problem. Having said that, your projected time will be a big factor in deciding on a back up. If you looking at 12 hours dont have one the water pionts have everything you need.If you are in for a much longer ride it is nice to have new items given to you at Kondoma, also remember the back up driver only clocks in at Kondoma,Zuurbron and the finish I think. Last year we raced without one and it was great, just remember then you have to ensure that you are self sufficient on the bike.If the weather really changes you can be caught out badly so by having family waiting at Kondoma can save your Butt. If you look at the complete race distance once you get to Kondoma you have done 3/4 of the race already. We pulled into Kondoma tent had chow, filled bottles and gone in 10 min.
  5. thanks for the feedback maybe these stickleggs of the 48yr old will adapt, must say im worried about Atta with the 2 blade 38 vs 42 ,
  6. Cap whats the weight diff between XT 3 blade and xt 2 blade cranks??
  7. where do you source that setup??
  8. thanks, what is the biggest rear granny you can get for the xt 10sp.??
  9. I have a scott 910 that now comes with a 2 blade front set up,after riding 3 blade on my expert I find it quite hard to adapt. Any simular stories--.I feel the ratio drop between big blade and small blade is very big and that the climbing gear is just to hard compared with the old donkey gear. Im a small rider, Shimano gearing
  10. What kinda milage per week should a person be looking at in Dec 350 good enough
  11. The LOCR is the laanis man way to do stage racing. Stay in Hotel ,(please if I want to stay in a tent I go camping). All food included 3 great stages Great vibe at event. Social get together every night This year was a bit wet but still great racing, just remember its mountaingoat country.
  12. Friday looks really wet
  13. I do think in SA there is a market for well planned 3-4 day rides in Areas that are not always available to ride. If you take the fees for s2c and wtw you should be able to easily ride a trail and sleep in BnB` s for a tour lasting 4 days. We are blessed in Sa with a wealth of mounty routes. I feel the ...Next big thing..will be guided tours in remote areas. S2c is nice ,day 2 is the best ,but many of the areas are badly rutted from braking and sort of spoils the ride.
  14. So if I read correctly does the W2W run out of one basecamp for 3 days? What is the entry I might give it a go next year.
  15. Atta again eeishhh Yes last year was tough,I battled compared to 2011. I also ride with one bottle ,never had issues the only thing is i cannot stand the stuff they gave us last year,so this year wil take my own pre-mix. I do ride with a small bottle in my back pocker for water to hose down the body now and again.
  16. It seems like many riders suffer from the effects of the sweet overload in the Tummy. Next year will really try something new not all the usual crap like energellys, litres of energy drinks and the od GU. And Bergplaas seems to be the piont in the race where all suffer from tummy pain
  17. why why why after suffering do we say to ourselfs the next day -willi do it again? hell Yes baby
  18. I was so moer toe there I went the speed thats one step up from falling over. No wonder my partner towed me in
  19. What was the fastest speeds clocked by riders on some downhills I checked 70kph on one downhill with tailwind and Im light some off the bigger riders must have flown.
  20. One thing Azonic has mentioned before is that your Tummy gets really unhappy with all the junk food. Energade, goo, wine gums, energelly`s,sosatie made my gut very sore,at Kondoma I switched to water only --and felt better right away. 2 Waffels at Zuurbron sorted me out. If...........................................................I ride again next year its water for me. PS nearly rode past Kondoma expecting the checkpiont at Pakhuis well if you dont go to the riders briefing thats what happens, but the Battery charging sign there confused us. One thing that really saves you is making fast stops we passed many teams in checkpionts wasting time and never saw them again.
  21. That tailwind really helped up neverender by that time I was running on empty and that hill at the end against the wind killed me luckily my partner could tow me a bit.
  22. looks like a spot of rain---30% --well thats 70% chance of no rain with nice west wind--lets do this thing.
  23. If you want to die in a blaze of glory flying down suikerbossie..use tape...nice knowing you
  24. carbooooo loaaaaaaading this week
  25. As jy Dom is moet jy seker voel.shame as jy nou nog nie weet dat Ghetto baie cheaper is sal jy seker nooit.
