  1. What bottles are those.looks like they will beat the heat.
  2. +1 on the training and riding with all kit on it takes getting used to. Are you planning on a Backpack??
  3. Man die vrystaat is lekker plat ..
  4. time in saddle is what you need, long night rides ,IDT is really not what you require.Consentrate on long rides and core exercises. a all round fitness programme is requires. this ride needs mental strength and the correct attitude.
  5. Gooi mielies
  6. Alex usually has a few mini munga,s organized ,,try one of those
  7. Do not take a lot of extra food, the main checkpoints have boerie rolls, sosaties ,rusks.tea koffie .There is more than enough, the waterpoints are also well stocked . This is a super well organized race. Dick, last year we started right at the back of the field the pace was super chilled,,big bunches all chatting, this race only starts after 200k when everyone goes into their own little zone. remember clear glasses its super dusty in the bunch
  8. I hear more than 150 entries for this ride ,,should be good
  9. well maybe next year they will have a separate cat in the Epic with shorter distances every day.
  10. One tip,,don't believe the route profile,,the last leg from Calitzdorp has some serious hills,,don't loose your sense of humour. also stay away from gels and too much energy drinks ,drink lots of water, you must have clear glasses for the night,it's really dusty. Eat real food at the stops and it gets very cold after 12
  11. Just wish they would inprove on the decals and colours,,,,so boring
  12. Interesting comment - I recently did a test between my hardtail (carbon) and my new dual sus (Trek) which is about 1.5kg heavier than the hardtail. I tested bikes back to back on the same trails and the heavier dually was unexpectedly faster on the uphills as well as technical, flat and downs. Given that I weigh around 57kg, 1.5kg difference is substantial (will post full details of my testing soon) I weigh 65kg there is no doubt that my Sworks is faster on the technical climbs and downhills than my Scott 910 HT. But on those 80k days I would like to think that not carting an extra 1.2 kg up the mountains will save lots of energy. On XCO the Sworks although heavier is much quicker over the same course, the traction is also better up loose sharp climbs.
  13. One thing not to forget is that small/light riders do not want to ride up mountains with a heavy soft tail. My older s works is 12.4 kg but there is a maxis ust on the back and its 2\10 xtr If I splash out 15k for a 1/11 and better wheels yes down to about 11kg For now im starting with 1/11 don't know if its the right way to go.
  14. It's really just so sad,,what about your family and sponsors And friends. Until a hard line is followed it will not go away.
  15. when does entry`s open
  16. I also lost a Conti Protection tyre,,it's over rated for all round riding at low pressures its Maxis Crossmark UST .Bulletproof
  17. Mr Walland reported it was tougher but much more rideable than last year, according to Mike next year they will start outside PE and some new routes
  18. Dink nie iemand gaan laas jaar se tye Klop nie, laas jaar het die weste wind gehowl. Ligte oos die jaar
  19. Yip you need a serious rider Last year we did a 10'26 with the big tailwind
  20. What time you aiming for
  21. I think a bit of undertraining for the Trans is no problem, start slow ,eat all the time and just sit the bunches. Once you enter the real baviaans at Yellow woods take it easy its where the climbing starts. Dont drink too much Energy drink it f,s up your tummy, and then your energy level goes one way. Swop between water and whatever energy drink and coke mixed with water. Most important dont stuff around in the check points --then you will have a good ride.
  22. Pre rode day 2 and its a blast.Nice mix of twin track, farm roads, game farms and a bit of district road. Some nice climbing but there should be no pushing. I put a summary on the FB page
  23. Im riding my wobbly until its smooth,Did some riding in Hogsback with that tyre over very rocky terrain and no probs. Also did the Knysna 80k So for now it stays on.
  24. yip I have a Protection Conti I also swopped it and the it developed a serious wobble, But its a pricy tyre so I have kept it on and I must have done at least a 1000k with the wobble. Sort of getting sick of okes behind me telling me my rims bent. Offroad its fine but on smooth tar I can feel the wobble.
