  2. so a dunlop is the cherry of bikes then?
  3. To the op......... there is no such thing as a quick question on the Hub........
  4. Thats correcthttps://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/137839-tubeless-sealent-issue/page__st__16 I have written to Mr Gareth the distributor of Maxxis tyres in SA asking exactly what sealants are approved by Maxxis but have had no reply as yet. Methinks Mr Gareth is a touch slack. Perhaps there is a hubber out there who has a list of all the sealants and what they contain?
  5. great after I spent all that money on these tyres ....oh well at least they were on special. I suspect it may just be a way for tyre companies to get out of their warranty obligations. We'll see what happens then if they fall apart you'll read about it here...
  6. no worries ..and as for your advice I may just do that and hope that I'm not that 1 in 200000th person who has a problem,,tyres are so dam expensive these days ...but thats another whole thread
  7. Sorry I did not realise that I was jumping up and down about something that everyone knows about..I put it down to my noobnes then.... especially as far as tubeless goes, so what does one do? hunt down a sealant that doesn't have the said ingredients? or just go what the heck and use any old sealant...?
  8. not a yoke go see my response from Maxxis. I promise I'm not playing the fool. unless Mr Tsai is pulling my leg.
  9. You may have a point there........but if you do have a problem with the tyre they will just point out that the wrong sealant was used and ta ta warranty .... cos face it 99% of sealants have those ingredients... not that I have ever tried to claim a warranty on a tyre or ever needed to ......
  10. See my post in this thread. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/137839-tubeless-sealent-issue/page__st__16
  11. OK so this thing about some sealants damaging tyres I thought I would have a go at writing to Maxxis themselves and .... well this is the reply I got ...kinda throws the cat amongst the pigeons doesn't it ... Dear Michael, Nice to meet you. I am Robert and the sales rep of Maxxis. Thanks for your mail. As for your sealant consideration, it is necessary. Since Maxxis LUST tires are not Latex or Ammonia compatible, please don’t use sealant which includes Latex or Ammonia on our LUST tire. Mr. Gareth is the distributor in South Africa. He is willing to provide you the instant help if you need. Thank you. Dear Gareth, Please help Mr. Michael, if he needs some other help. Thanks. Best Regards, Robert Tsai CHENG SHIN RUBBER IND. I was wondering if there is any specific brand of sealant that you recommend for use with your Maxxis tyres. I have read somewhere that some sealants can cause tyres to de-laminate which is not what I want to happen to my nice new tyres. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Regards Michael Gilmore so now I shall contact Mr Gareth about a sealant that does not have the 2 primary ingredients in it???????? I also wonder how many other tyres are affected by this and why is this never mentioned on their site etc etc etc ...whooo boy ......
  12. Is it there any truth to the story that Stans can make some tyres de-laminate? I read this somewhere and am loathe to ruin expensive tyres .........
  13. I recently bought a set of nice new Maxxis monorail tyres and am going to be putting them on the rims soon. The rims are Mavic SLR ust. The monorails are Lust ust, This is my first time going tubeless. I have everything I need except the slime. I have put off buying it because I read somewhere (can't remember where) that Stans causes the monorails to de laminate. As Stans seems to be THE slime product if I can't use that what the heck do I use and is this even true? ie both does Stans cause Maxxis Monorails to de-laminate and is Stans really the best?
  14. what the heck was it made out of rhodium?
  15. Not to bad in the kitchen at the mo and to the left is my trusty 35cm chefs knife........

  18. looks like pretoria with the jacaranda's
  19. yeah coffee for the obsessive compulsive......
  20. it doesn't actually matter as long as you enjoy the ride ..right...???????
  21. I had some very young lady ride up and down that hill at tokai no less than 4 times while I was till going up .... I had to keep telling myself .."well she only wieghs like 35kgs and her bike probably weighs 10kgs and I'm 76kgs and and......she must ride alllllll the time and she hasn't spent 20 odd years trying to drink and smoke herself to death and well hey I'm not doing to badly" ...lmfao no actually its when the monday morning milfs and gilfs come past me on that hill that I want to throw my bike off the mountain go home and start smoking again...ha ha ha
  22. you should hear what my father says about town planners I can't even repeat it on here I would get banned forever ...my old man is an old engineer and designed a few famous roads around the cape and western cape so I respect what he thinks about engineering issues...
  23. back in my late teens I had weird oversize dikwiel homejob with a sturmey archer 3 speed one drunken day my cuz rode it into his swimming pool and out again, never gave hassles or missed a beat for another 3 years despite not being serviced I just put motor car oil in the 3 speed every now and then...sadly it got stolen. It was a mad contraption and musta weighed nearly 20 kgs of all my bikes that and the cruiser were my favourites. but I must say there is a lot to be said for disc brakes they are truly a revelation. Those old cantilever and caliper brakes were dreadful and ceased to function entirely as soon as there was anything resembling moisture in the air....made going down tokai on a rainy day um interesting espescially when all you were wearing was a pair of jeans, a t shirt and a backpack full of empty beer cans.... he he
  24. Thank you Eskom for taking all the attention away from us cyclists ...now no one will give a damn if we ride upside down naked in the middle of the road ...everyone is to busy getting upset with eskom......
