  1. Now you’ve seen someone ride a 96 😉
  2. Some say Strava is to cyclists what Instacrap is to gym bunnies/14 yo high school girls. Others say, does it really matter if you get a kudo? All i know is, it's the activity that should be the reward.
  3. that should be enough for a camp fire?
  4. I wonder how much wood one can transport on a bicycle?
  5. no wind all day, perfect weather except for the -6 degrees just before sunrise at the top of Ouberg.
  6. Wolftooth Fat Paw, for me its better than the ESI grips. https://evobikes.co.za/product/wolftooth-fatpaw-9-5mm-grips-various-colours/
  7. Claiming accessories is exactly the problem I am having. I have been with Outsurance for several years and never have I had an issue, specifically wrt the roadside assistance which has saved me on more than one occasion. However, I had a silly fall off the bike recently, slipped while collecting water from a waterfall and smashed my phone and helmet (feet slipped and fell dead on my backside, if it wasnt for my helmet I’d be in serious trouble). Ekoï doesnt have a crash replacement policy and I tried to claim through Outsurance under the Out and About section. I was informed that items such as helmets, sunglasses and anything over R1500 in value should be specified and thus I cannot claim for my helmet and sunglasses. Fortunately my phone is specified so that is being taken care of. The latest annual policy update also indicates that as of June all claims relating to loadshedding will carry an excess of R4500 which seems rather OTT. Their statement relating to this is that they are trying to minimise the effect on monthly payments. Since my TV also failed last week because of a load spike, I am now also in the process of claiming a tv before the new policy takes effect. Under the current schedule my excess is only R600 odd. The timely discovery of this thread has been invaluable. All of this has lead me to contact a broker (friend of a friend) to see if I cannot get a better deal specifically suited to my needs. ✌️
  8. Indeed! 😉 Edit: and remember you have to qualify for the Dakar
  9. Watched the extended highlights on Youtube the last few days: how many times can Gerald say ABSA CAPE EPIC in a sentence??? 🙈🤣
  10. The Dakar has the Malle Moto category for those souls that prefer/can only afford to do the event without support. These are the true warriors of the Dakar. I would introduce a similar category in the Epic: service your own bike day in day out without living it up in airconditioned camper vans. Seeing as though many do the Epic in this fashion anyways, why not classify these riders separately/officially? As with the Dakar, if you can afford to participate with team support, you are basically an also-ran in the pro division whereas in the Malle Moto the playing field appears to be more equal. Just a thought. Interestingly, the attrition rate in the Dakar is hectic. PS, i know we are talking 2 different sports here, but the premise does appear to be quite similar ie. stage racing.
  11. You could park at Devonvale Golf Estate and start from there perhaps. Ride the 10km on Bottelary Rd to the entrance opposite Haasendal and then have a few beers at the golf club afterwards at the halfway house. Or join the trails at Devonvale, although I dont like that starting point. I know Devonvale is looking to attract the cyclists. Lucky for me I live 5mins from the Haasendal entrance 😛
  12. Nice! Show us!
  13. I have 2 pairs of Radar EV's and 2 pairs of Racing Jackets. EV's have one with the prizm road lens and the other with the photochromic lens. I alternate between these depending on the conditions, but the Prizm lens has been working overtime this summer. I find the photochromic lens works lekker for winter, specially for early morning rides when you set off in the dark and the wind chill is trying to freeze your eyeballs. I had VR28 Blue lenses in the one pair of Racing Jackets that I used to use for riding and golfing, but those are now completely trashed. The second pair of Racing Jackets had OEM Polarized Positive Red Iridium lenses, the best lens for everyday use I have ever experienced. Then I had spare clear as well as persimmon lenses for the RJ's for winter or night riding - all vented. I still love the Racing Jackets with the vented lens, but ja, getting replacements is a real p.i.t.a. Even on Ebay guys are selling these sunnies for close to 4000 randelas which is just silly.
  14. One is not supposed to smoke the shrooms anyway… 🤣😉
  15. I dont cycle with the polarised lenses, these were just my normal everyday sunnies.
  16. Following with interest, I've ordered from Revant before but not happy with the lenses. For me the difference is noticeable enough: the polarisation is not on par with the genuine article and the fit of the lenses are also not as snug as the genuine article - these were for my Racing Jackets/Jawbones. The polarised lenses make me feel like im riding a wave and it messes with my eyes i.t.o. adapting to the colouring and depth, its like my eyes arent on the same page or something. I don't have this issue with the genuine Oakley polarised lenses. so i'm keen to see how you go...
  17. Need to grow a pair, or upgrade the 39/27 climbing gear. Oh wait, rule 5. 😛
  18. Somewhere on the R304 outside Malmesbury 30kms from where I started 😛
  19. Haas ditched Uralkali, getting rid of all connections to Mazepin's dad who is obviously a known oligarch, so I guess it was always kind of inevitable? There was a press release earlier saying that if Mazepin jnr signed an agreeement to distance himself from the goings on in Ukraine, that the FIA would allow him to race. But it is my understanding that Gene Haas has decided that a clean break is needed. Sleepy Joe said sanctions, so Gene is just following orders. A similar thing happened between 1965/6 and 1991/2... https://www.news24.com/wheels/formulaone/formula-one-team-haas-cut-ties-with-russian-driver-mazepin-and-sponsor-20220305 https://www.news24.com/wheels/formulaone/nikita-mazepin-must-agree-not-to-show-support-for-russian-invasion-to-stay-in-f1-says-fia-20220305
  20. first time ever I have had this issue with the Edge 500, and it has been flawless for about 5 years.
  21. Apparently I went fishing? 🤷‍♂️
  22. I don't mean to nitpick but I view it differently. For me it starts with yourself/oneself: if you don't accept the bribe/choose not to run the red traffic light/choose not to drink and then drive etc. life will be better for all around you. It's not a big decision to make, but if everyone makes the same responsible decision, it makes a big impact. Yes, as a laaitie you got moered if you climbed the neighbour's tree to steel his fruit after your toppie warned you not to do it, but we are all supposed to be adults capable of making adult decisions. We shouldn't need a stick. I know, Utopia right? sigh....
