  1. I am in for R 500 for a finish. Can you please post the link for payment / pledges?
  2. Sucks that it ends two days before Om Die Dam
  3. I agree with Andrew. If you have a gym membership, go to gym and see if you can run on a treadmill for at least 30 minutes for a couple of times a week. If you don't hate yourself after that then you can consider it. I do run on a treadmill at gym due to work commitments, but it is painful to say the least.
  4. I completely underestimated the route. I loved the scenery! The first 10km is basically uphill. It was quite hot and the last 10km is flat without much shade. Most of the waterpoints had luke warm water and not much coke. I enjoyed the experience, not a big field so it was good mental prep as you are mostly running alone.
  5. On the bright side I am happy that Egan Bernal won the breakthrough of the year reward.

  7. https://www.strava.com/clubs/231407/posts/5919243 You are clearly not very artistic...
  8. I would recommend the 60 km RAC long run. It is normally on the 1st of May. It is excellent mental prep for Comrades.
  9. I see there is a sale today on Hoka One One on One Day only (mostly 50% off)
  10. Yes, mainly the heat. I think traffic also played a role in the decision. Last year the marshals had their hands full at some of the intersections.
  11. I am leaving home already at 3 am. It is going to be a long day. I am looking forward to my 2 hour afternoon nap on Sunday.
  12. I have 3 x 21 or 42km Johnson Crane entries available for free if anyone is interested. They changed the start time to 5:30 am.
  13. I wonder if he is a steeplechase athlete?
  14. I liked the stats report from Strava for 2019: https://2019.strava.com/community/en-us/ Wow, how is the lady that ran every single day for 7 years in a row now! Awesome that Comrades got a mention. "If you were at the front of a marathon major this year, you’d have seen a lot of swooshes. The median finish time for runners wearing the Nike Next% was 8.7% faster than runners wearing the fastest competitor, the Adidas Boston." DC Rainmaker's take on the 2019 Strava Stats: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/12/fascinating-stravas-2019-annual-report.html
  15. Interesting book to read when there is loadshedding: "How bad do you want it?" by Matt Fitzgerald https://www.takealot.com/how-bad-do-you-want-it/PLID34983347
  16. Please let me know where you find motivation Happy New Year! What are your running plans for the year? My runs I have planned thus far: Jan - Johnson Crane marathon (got bullied into this one) Feb - Congo Caves marathon Mar - Om die dam Apr - Loskop May - RAC long run Hope you all have a wonderful and injury free 2020 running year!
  17. Finally... I was waiting for this episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AkIDP3BT6Q
  18. If you have to recommend a marathon to a novice for next year, which one would it be? I am thinking a single lapper.... but there are not many out there. It is one of my friends, she is not a fast runner and not too concerned about time or the route profile.
  19. Go for that very special sub 3! The second half is very tough, especially the last 5 km.
  20. RAC Tough One weekend is upon us!! (where did this year go?) Looking forward to finishing the season on Sunday. (well, not that runners ever rest) I remember my first Tough One in 2014 was a wet one, hoping for some cool weather on Sunday.
  21. By the show of hands, who has entered? I am opting to rather go to Loskop, it is the same weekend.
  22. Please keep us informed about this race, definitely a race I am interested in.
  23. "When engaging with an IT consultant, we learnt that while updating the back-end of ww.twooceansmarathon.org.za with suggested (but not finalised or ratified) information regarding 2020 entry fees and processes, these web pages were actually visible to the public" This is the k@kkest excuse I have ever heard. Surely the IT consultant is not responsible for the content of the website? Also, who makes changes to the production environment without anyone checking it?
