  1. I am so thankful I decided to start (got bullied into) running in 2014... I think if 2013 was my first Comrades I would have stopped at one. I will never forget running the RAC long run in 2014 and one of my fellow runners (while eating a whole slab chocolate) told me about the 2013 Comrades. He ran a couple of silvers and BR's and in 2013 he made it with 2 minutes to spare.
  2. Congrats Stretch!! That is awesome.
  3. Good luck to all running CT marathon! Will be watching the race on TV after Gerald Fox.
  4. We had +-15 runners from our club that all qualified at Vaal River City marathon on Sunday, even if you add 6/7 minutes to their times. It is unacceptable, they should refund the runners their money.
  5. Based on last year, Comrades entries opened on the 19th of October. If I remember correctly they normally did open it on the 1st of September. OMTOM opened on the 1st of November in 2017 and 13th of November last year. PS. Someone needs to explain to me why they are already tweeting this, even if the entries are not open yet? https://twitter.com/ComradesRace/status/1160810328546054146
  6. It was my first one. I enjoyed the race even though I suffered on the second lap. I am definitely not the distance fit as yet. Well organised race, marshals did an excellent job at some very busy intersections. Traffic was a bit of a disaster before and after the race but that was expected. Maybe there can be marshals controlling the cars coming in and out of the venue? Will definitely be back next year!
  7. I have entered all 4 Vitality series events for the first time this year. I am going to use them as my long run training for Kaapse Hoop. Which one is the easiest? Old Eds, Wanderers, Adrienne Hersch (Randburg Harriers) or Gerald Fox?
  8. Mine is 28 km. Once I get to single digits (32 km) I somehow see some light at the end of the tunnel.
  9. Thank you Jaws, had a great training week. Just finished week 3 of the ASICS programme. Slowly getting back into it. Does anyone have info about the Old Ed's 21km profile? Will be my first time doing it this year.
  10. I enjoyed the Run Zone Ice breaker 15 km. Quite an undulating route with lots of short climbs. I liked the idea of no race numbers, just a wrist band and also no medals, just a buff. It was a well organised race. Not too many people as I think the weather played a roll. I will do this race again in future. I survived my second week of the training programme. This week I am doing the Zwartkop 21 km. Looking forward to it as I haven't done a 21 km since Feb.
  11. Does anyone know the route profile for Sunday's Run Zone 15 km race?
  12. I converted the programme to kilometers. (It took some time to convert the PDF to excel and then pretty much recalculating each day. I have only done the first month, will do the rest as I go along) It feels strange to warm up for 1.6 km / 1 mile. I round it up to 2 km. PS. I am happy to share the sub 4 programme (1st month) in kilometers if anyone is interested. Edit: My general rule is to round up to the nearest kilometer.
  13. I am also on week 2 of my Asics training programme. It is very tough and I am still getting into it. The nausea is now manageable with the Nexium I am using. This is the first time I am training according to a programme and I am really enjoying it. It is much more structured and completely out of my comfort zone. I can feel a difference already. Feeling very motivated at the moment to keep going. 108 days to Kaapse Hoop...
  14. Interesting Read: https://www.podiumrunner.com/jared-ward-helping-saucony-develop-faster-racing-shoes_177820
  15. This thread has been very quiet. Is everyone hibernating and watching TdF? Anyone doing Springbok Vasbyt tomorrow? I have opted for the Pirates 10 km on Sunday, I am glad it only starts at 8 am.
  16. I have one slot open... sigh...
  17. I know this was discussed a while ago. I want to start the Asics Training Program on Monday. Did you convert the program from miles to kilometers or did you change your watch to miles? I don't know if my brain will be able to do the switch Any advice about the program? Is it worth it?
  18. Go stand at the finish of Comrades and support the guys coming in between 11 and 12 hours.... You won't experience that overwhelming feeling of achievement anywhere else in the world. I cried my eyes out this year to see the runners with so much emotion on their faces. That will convince absolutely anyone to enter Comrades...
  19. Aagh Barry, so sorry to hear that! It really sucks if things does not go as planned after all the hard work. I agree with all previous comments, this was something out of your control. Hope you feel better soon!! 2020 will be your year for revenge.
  20. Congratulations on finishing your first one!! What you have experienced is exactly the emotional roller coaster most Comrades runners experience on the day. I think each Comrades run makes you mentally stronger to handle this roller coaster. One moment it is all systems go and the next you want to crawl under a tree and die... It reminds me of this video: (just much worse) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsMw10KVVCk You can now learn from your experience and train for your B2B and first down run.
  21. My race report: Driving through at 4 am yesterday morning to support our team was the best decision I made. When we stopped at Harrismith it was -3.5 degrees and the TV was on Comrades. I saw Ann was in front and Gerda second. I couldn't wait to get to Pietermaritzburg. We got a parking not too far from the finish, luckily I put my gin in a water bottle as the security checked everything. Our club tent was at Tier 2 which felt like a 2 km walk... We got to our gazebo about 45 min before the winner came in. It is really something else to see the elite runners come in. They are a different specie... It doesn't look like they just ran 87 km. I am super stoked for Gerda!! She deserved the win. Overall our club performed well. We got two ladies that got BR's for the first time in I don't know how many years. Two of my friends didn't make it with 2 minutes... It is heart-breaking to see those last runners not making it before the gun went off. I saw Stu at the finish, all smiles! Well done! We drove back last night, I got in bed at 2 am and back at work today. Congrats to all that finished!! This is still one of the most brutal and inspiring races. So let the 2020 training commence....
  22. Good luck to all the Comrades runners on theHub!! I hope you achieve your goals and that everything will go according to your plan on the day. The time has come to put all your training to the test!! Bring home those well-deserved medals. Looking forward to your race reports on Monday. I have been persuaded (there was alcohol involved...) to go down to the finish on Sunday, it is going to be a different experience for me. I will definitely be back next year, not to be part of this race is way too emotional for me. Enjoy guys!! PS. Go Gerda!!
