  1. I agree, the route over Chapman's Peak is beautiful. It seems the new race director has lots of issues to sort out.
  2. https://m.sport24.co.za/OtherSport/Athletics/anger-at-late-notice-price-hike-for-two-oceans-2020-20191112 Price hike of 20% as well
  3. Our running club will be here (handing out beers...). It is 10 km from the finish, just before the downhill to the finish. https://goo.gl/maps/wLdHnEd3YX5fePFk6 It is easy to access from the N14 and there is a Sasol garage close by for the spectators. It is also after all the terrible climbs after Kyalami. They will experience serious pain and suffering on the faces of the later start groups, I would suggest they bring lots of ice. Last year there were barely any support at this point and people were struggling.
  4. It sounds very similar to what I am experiencing, I just don't vomit. I just feel very nauseous. I would suggest you go see a specialist to do a gastroscopy. I know Nexium does help, so maybe it will help you. PS. One doctor suggested I stop running, I started laughing and told her it is not an option.
  5. Yes, I used Tailwind. I had one or two potatoes on the road as well. I also bought the Tailwind recovery drink, but that tasted horrible.
  6. I think I have silent reflux. It is reflux without experiencing heartburn. Symptoms include nausea, coughing, nasal drip, hoarseness, trouble breathing, that "lump" in your throat feeling. (I pretty much have all these symptoms, coughing is the worst after a run) It is mostly misdiagnosed because you don't experience heartburn. I have been for a barium swallow and a gastroscopy, both have shown I have reflux. I was then prescribed Nexium by an ENT. He said it is the best medication out there for reflux. It didn't really make a difference to my nausea. Is your nausea random? Do you experience nausea when you are not exercising? Do you experience any other symptoms?
  7. Thank you Scott! Not quite, still feeling it when I push myself, for example at the track or running uphills. I went for another gastroscopy yesterday. I am seeing the surgeon tomorrow for the results.
  8. No race reports yet for Soweto and Kaapse Hoop? I had an excellent run (for a change) at Kaapse Hoop. The weather was beautiful, and my nutrition worked out perfectly. I felt very strong the first half and I had to tell myself to slow down on the downhills to reserve some energy for the lat 3 kms. My plan was to get as close as possible to sub 4 but I would be happy with a time under 4:15. This was my first marathon for the year and longest run since last year's Comrades. I did not look at my watch at all until I got to the 10 km to go mark (I had an hour for the last 10 km). In hindsight I should have done this earlier as I could have probably pushed a little bit harder earlier in the race. Wheels came off on the last 3 km as expected. I crossed the finish line in 4:03. Very very happy with my result after a very emotional and challenging running year! PS. I followed the sub-4 Asics plan, thank you to everyone that recommended it!! Now to survive that little cycling race on the 17th...
  9. Kaapse Hoop for me on Saturday! Hoping it rains before then.
  10. It depends why you want to do the race. It is not as beautiful as most of the other ultras. I am doing it as mental prep for Comrades. There is no other reason for doing it. If you want to do a more enjoyable ultra I would rather recommend Loskop.
  11. For those enjoying running without water, dodging cars/trucks and just general suffering, Om die Dam 2020 entries opened today. I will be there...
  12. Some feedback on my nutrition issues: I bought Tailwind (Rasberry Buzz with Caffeine) after reading lots of reviews (BTW, the service was excellent, received it 2 days after ordering it online). I didn't have a long run planned this past weekend, so I had to test it at Satellite Classic. My nutrition on the bike and running is not quite the same (for some reason I can ride with 32 GI but not run with it). I made one bottle (750 ml) with two scoops of Tailwind. (It was really hot on Saturday and I finished two bottles, one with just water) It worked great. It is not too sweet and there is no aftertaste. I had no stomach cramps or nausea with Tailwind. It was a very hot day and I think I should have made it stronger as I felt hungry after 3 hours. Also, I should have made two bottles of Tailwind.I still need to play around with the number of servings etc. Conclusion: If gels/bars upset your stomach, you can try Tailwind. ( I think they have smaller starter packs to try) . I paid R 440 for 30 servings (serving of 100 g of calories) which I feel is not expensive at all. I will try it again this coming weekend on a run, but I am sure I will be able to stomach it.
  13. Is anyone doing this race this coming weekend? https://capewinemarathon.co.za I am thinking of doing it next year! I guess it is based on the French Marathon (which is also on my bucket list) https://www.marathondumedoc.com/en/
  14. I see the sub-2 marathon attempt will be televised on SS from 7:45 am on Saturday: https://www.supersport.com/athletics/news/191009_Kipchoges_159_marathon_record_attempt_LIVE_on_SS
  15. I don't know if I prefer Hekpoort at the start or end. It is very much like Polly Shorts on the up run. My bum is not looking forward to the 106 km. Haven't been on my bike nearly enough this year. I am hoping my running fitness will help
  16. I follow Ben Parkes on YouTube. I can't remember which video it was but he mentions that you need to do downhill repeats... I have never thought about this until he mentioned it.
  17. I cannot wait! I will be missing it on Saturday morning (if it happens on Saturday morning). I am doing a silly cycling race up Hekpoort
  18. That is what happened to me on Saturday... I used Aim's beet powder... I was literally running from garage to garage. I guess your digestive system needs to get used to it.
  19. Thanks for this!! I eat Future Life before my runs, never thought of running with it.
  20. Thanks, yes, I will test it before my marathon. I had a terrible "loo" run on Saturday because I tried a new product.
  21. Thanks, I will give tailwind a try. I struggle to eat on long runs and I need to sort out my nutrition before Kaapse Hoop.
  22. Is anyone using the Maurten products? It is ridiculously expensive, so I am wondering if it is worth giving it a try. I have read a couple of reviews and they all seem positive.
  23. Geez, 2 seconds... And that from almost finishing third.
  24. I am looking forward to the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, broadcast starts at 8:30 on SS9. Good luck to all participating!
