  1. Kaapse Hoop hurts as much as Comrades...just saying If I had to rank the 3 ultras from best to worst: 1. OMTOM - most beautiful ultra I have ever ran 2. Loskop - love the support on the road, water points are great, profile not too bad. 3. Om die Dam - if you like a sufferfest then I can recommend ODD... the only reason I have done this ultra is to mentally prepare myself for Comrades. Traffic is a disaster, the route is very scary with lots of trucks and cars driving between the runners. Price wise OMTOM is definitely most expensive, but if you book your flight tickets and accommodation early, is it a bit cheaper. Loskop accommodation gets full very quickly. For ODD you will have to wake up very early if you want to miss traffic. (Around 2:30 am...)
  2. I downgraded to the 21km from the 42km at Kaapse Hoop. It is going to be a social run for me. Good luck to all qualifying this weekend, may it be a cool day at Soweto and Kaapse Hoop. Hopefully nothing like last weekend.
  3. Season 1 was hectic, I am still recovering from it.
  4. I have also not entered, the first time in five years. I must say the last week was very tough for me. I am starting a "No, I am not running Comrades" supporters group. We will regularly be meeting at a pub of choice for our meetings if anyone is interested. The supporters group will also be saving up for an island holiday the weekend of the 9th of June 2019.... with no cell phone reception. I am open for fundraising ideas. PS. Forgot to mention the topic for our first meeting is: "How to successfully convince your club friends that you are DEFINITELY not running Comrades next year"
  5. This was an eye opener for me https://youtu.be/8KkKuTCFvzI
  6. I agree with Jaws, I started in F and it took me 10 to 12 minutes to "start". Well, then I jogged/walked for the first 15 to 20 km. it was really "bumper to bumper" traffic. With the up run it is easier to get going because of the highway and more space to run. I still think you need at least a D seeding to miss the masses.
  7. This is insane, I used to run up Serissa and it is a real killer. Congrats to these riders!
  8. Congratulations B-Rad! Thank you for the excellent write-up. It seems Berlin is the place to go to smash your PB.
  9. Happy belated birthday Carpet! Hope you had a wonderful day!
  10. Not sure if there are pacers out there that are able to stay with him for longer...
  11. I see km 22 is a 2:36 split! It that when he dropped the last pacer?
  12. It was beautiful to watch! Perfect conditions for him. I wonder if he is planning to run a sub 2 marathon? To improve by another 1min 39 seconds sounds impossible.
  13. Oh, how I hate that finish... I hope this is not a permanent decision for all the up runs... I really like Kiphoge. I hope he breaks the record. He is always full of smiles. I don't think I will have that expression on my face if I was running sub 3 min/km... I can't remember which marathon it was a year or two ago, Kiphoge was helping a youngster that stuck with him. The youngster was all over the road and Kiphoge told him where to run. Looking forward to the marathon on Sunday.
  14. Seems like KPMG is joining the Old Mutual club. Very sad indeed for some of the elite athletes. I guess if you want a proper sponsor or two you have to get out of this country.
  15. I have been to a chiro now for about 10 times over the last 2 and a half months. I pronate badly on my right side and I regularly have glute pain on my right side. The sessions made a huge difference and I feel lighter on my feet when running. I agree with Paddaman, if you have alignment issues a chiro can help. My next step is to go to a Biokineticist to make my right side stronger. The chiro said to me the camber of the road is a huge problem for runners. He suggests to alternate the sides of the road when running (I know this is dangerous and you won't see the cars when running on the left hand side)
  16. You are not alone... Tomorrow is D-Day for me.
  17. I buy a new vest every year... After a year of running in the same vest it smells funny and no amount of Omo can get it clean Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  18. I hope Ann sue their @sses. This is so childish.
  19. That really sucks Lexx... I don't know how you cope with those working hours. I am sure you will make it work somehow. Your poor family. I had a terrible non-existent training week. Nausea is back in full swing and it is worse than ever. My training motivation is the lowest it has ever been. I will try a short run tomorrow and see how I feel. I will be dusting off my bike for a Sunday short ride. Have a good weekend everyone.
  20. Mine is 20 seconds... many moons ago.
  21. Wtf, we are seeing averages of 90km per week already?
  22. I am in the same boat, two picks were easy. Dropping Kittel was also easy. Now for pick number four...
  23. Got the sniffles once again... so my first week of following a training program stopped after day 4. I was so motivated to get going again. I guess we will try again on Monday. Have a good weekend everyone!
