  1. This horse is so long gone, but here we are still flogging it. DSTV have answered this question so many times over the years. A feasible pricing option for sports only packages would only result in about a 10% discount from the full package. It doesn't even make sense to offer it. DSTV premium is (virtually) a sport only package with a whole bunch of other (mostly unwanted) things for free.
  2. Get shorter cranks and it'll go up immediately. 😀
  3. Since I'm often sitting at or above 110 RPM I'm very likely running into mechanical inefficiencies. "Any crank length is good so long as..." <-- I'm running into one of the things typically listed here as an exception. Super high cadence. For the same pedal speed I can likely comfortably turn 185mm cranks at high 90s RPM and the increased Torque would in my particular case result in increased power. It's all moot though, as you can hardly source 175mm cranks currently, let alone 185mm...
  4. Shorter is very often better yes, but I appear to have the space and hip mobility that indicates 175mm is either perfect or perhaps too short. I PRd Franschhoek Pass on Saturday with a freely selected cadence of 97. Before you ask, yes that is lower than my preferred flat road rolling cadence. >Longer gains you nothing. It gains you more torque, if and only if you tick each and every other box. Here's Neill Stanbury talking about this. First why shorter is often better, then ~5min in about tall blokes like me.
  5. I'd love to get my hands on 185mm cranks as I'm tall and carry a lot of that length in my legs. I have the chest clearance when my forearms are parallel, and I have a silly high natural cadence so could really see benefits... Edit: Meant to quote your 177.5 post
  6. Probably cheaper than new cranks that would only yield 2.5mm anyway.
  7. His self reported FTP will put him at a whisker above walking speed on that gradient if he can still do FTP efforts at that point though.
  8. I'll answer your question, but I think you are focused on the wrong things... If you are able to ride at threshold on Suikerbossie the 1.86km at 6.7% will take you 12min30 if there is no wind. I doubt you will still be able to mange threshold after 90km and most likely you and most of those around you will walk most of this climb and spend closer to 20min on it. Advice for the day: Start way slower than what you instinctively want to. Since you have no group riding skills you might as well ignore the pace of everyone around you and just cruise. Enjoy the views and the water points and the crowds. Worry about time next year (or even the year after only).
  9. Jeepers, what a trip down memory lane. I hadn't realised how many bad years I've had... In my head I've doing sub-3 since 2007... 😨 Relieved to be on racing form currently!
  10. Alright, got curious. 2004 I was still a slow boi. Did a 4h11 from U bunch for my first go at the Chappies route. Definitely a late enough start for the Chappies flasher. The storie checks out.
  11. 🤔 Yeah, I believe it was on Little Chappies, but then it must've been 2004, since 2003 we went over Ou Kaaps.
  12. I remember they announced at the start venue that Malcolm Lange had won before I even started back in 2003. Don't remember what time I did, but I remember the red Ralleigh mountain bike I had back then, the heat, the oomie with the hose pipe cooling us down, and particularly the topless tannie that also just wanted to cool down. Sure regretted my early start time in 2004...
  13. Training wise is a smart idea. Time on the bike is also good. 👍
  14. Continuous attacks are fast. The problem is when we start sitting up between attacks. 😉
  15. Dodging things that come from behind you is decidedly more difficult though...
  16. 2h35 probably a good guess. 🤷‍♂️ Very little overlap in the requirements for the two races.
  17. He races Elite often. Not as dominant there, but he's a contender in any line up.
  18. I've ridden in that group as a 20 something before. It's the racing 50+ group, but they'll fill it with rando's to get their preferred size after all those that qualify are accounted for.
  19. $ has a 12km/h 5min neutral zone every year. I wonder if it would help if 50 people phone them to complain about safety issues with going that slow...
  20. Some live footage: https://www.facebook.com/TeamHoneycombProCycling/videos/482784246655208
  21. $ was crazy... I think the massive size of the group was a big risk by the organisers and they are lucky to have no big incidents. Those narrow roads from Malmesbury right to the end we ended up needing running road closure just to pass safely.
  22. Source?
  23. He raced in Spain last year...
  24. I believe so yes. Munton the new SA TT champ. https://results.finishtime.co.za/results.aspx?CId=35&RId=3514&EId=2
  25. There wont be much of a headwind. Barely perceptible.
