It's like saying you can't buy a Ferrari cause it's faster than the speed limit. The guy who can afford thus won't be racing UCI events. Let the R&D guys gave their moment.

I think more people should include their actual names, contact etc on their profiles and make themselves a bit more traceable. Being anonymous does not give anyone a warm fuzzy feeling! Providing feedback on sellers and buyers should be done when you transact to give them/you a degree of credibility. Obviously newbies may be eyeballed a bit till they've got some street cred.

Generally most 29er bikes would be 39-26 and some even 38-26 and on ladies bikes 36-22. There are few 29ers that are fitted with 42-28 as standard spec. There is more effort required to get the bigger wheels in motion. When I switched from 26er to 29er I mistakenly bought 42-28. It proved a challenge to get te same acceleration. I also found that my knees started to hurt. I dropped to 39-26 was was immediately happier. I have since also had a trail 29er with 38-26 and this has been fine. Unless your trails are generally very flat I would skip the 42-28 and go with 39-26 or lower.

Used in alu and carbon wheels for ages with no issues at all.

If I could only own one bike it would be a trance. Have had the 26 in alu and carbon have a 29er at the moment. Have an anthem adv in 650b. The trance is light enough to climb with a seriously shreds downhill. I have beefed the front end with a pike and 1-2m drop offs are within the bikes abilities. You could also go with a revelation RCT which is lighter than the pike. The travel is so plush compared to any other bikes I've had yet remains efficient. Careful of the proprietary shocks on some specialized bikes which are not serviceable at all shops. Make sure of maintenance costs, service intervals etc.

Have been on XX1 for about 2 months. Not a single missed shift and chain has stuck on front ring like glue with no issues at all. Biggest surprise to me is how quiet the setup runs. Absolutely silent. Just love it. Agree on the issue with choosing front rings. You may need a few ratio options. Look at 32 and 34 to start for most types of riding. Only downside I've had is if a piece of "thatch grass" gets into the front ring it sits there as tight as the chain. But its a product of the design.

William's bikes. I send mine to him - 1500km each way. I know they'll get the tlc needed. He has a passion for them that is not equalled by any of the other shops I know.

Made the choice to Mtb only a few months back. No regrets. Can still do base on quiet district dirt roads. Our club lost a member on a normal Saturday traing ride just after Burry passed. It was a really random incident and he had no part in it. I was surprised how much my family supported the decision and had not realized their concerns with me on the road.

Trail riders are by nature not weight weenies. A few grams to protect your scone is worth it. I have the Giro Xen and it definitely has a bit more bulk around the sides of the head. Not sufficient weight penalty to concern me. Problem is that you never plan to wipe out so you have to be on guard all the time. I have a friend who would have been drinking through a straw with a wired up jaw had he not been wearing a full face helmet. Wiped out 100m from his house on a spot he'd ridden many times. Trashed his helmet though.

I give my LBS the chance to match the online prices and most times they cut their price to the bone to try and match it. They appreciate the chance to do business. If i buy online they know why and are more accomodating. If you buy online its only fair to expect to pay a labour premium. Would you charge more if you were running the shop? Loyalty is a two way street. What I do expect is service! Right first time all the time. It's not always about the price.

Are there any generic replacement options for XX chainrings - GXP crank - 42 -28 ratios?

Big thanks to whoever found my Oakley Jawbones at the Safire Classic today and handed them in instead of putting them on. It's great to know that there are still good people out there!!!

And the tour de france stated in london a few years back.... Who cares.... It's a 3 day jol of note.

I think South Africans are missing a trick. The focus seems to be only on getting a 29er cross country bike... What about riding just for the sake of having a blast. I am sure most the participants from Saturday are still trying to wipe that childish grin from their faces.

Any of the hubbers take part in the Karkloof Enduro? What was your view on the race, the format etc? Personally I cannot understand why anyone would want to ride cross country when you can have so much fun doing enduro!! Big up to the organisers for giving this a try. I just hope it catches on in SA.

Garmin all the way. Sent my mom's polar for a battery change in the last week of feb and after blowing my fuse got it back on 11th April! They blamed it on their "busy" season. I was told that training staff would take up the time of the rest of the workers who were under pressure. Then I was told i can change the battery myself. When I asked about the warranty I was told it would not necessarily void it but it might depending on how I change it. Have since bought a Garmin Edge 800 and won a Forerunner 210. Garmin call centre helped me greatly to get base maps sorted on the 800. I was phoned back by the call centre tech guy - Gift on several occasions. The unit works a treat! I have been really happy with both the product and the service I have had from Garmin.
