  1. I have taken the plunge on XX and enjoy the narrower chain line. In essence you can use virtually the whole range of gears on inner and outer front rings without too much hassle. I am using 42/28 front with 11/32 rear and have found the climbs around our area OK. In fact using the 28 front ring, I dont use the "Granny" 32 on the rear cassette nearly as much. On the odd really steep section I suppose I may have to concede defeat and run up, but generally by that stage you are riding at walking pace anyway. There are not too many long climbs around with continued excessive gradient. If I add an 11-36 rear cassette to the group I would have virtually the entrie gear range of a triple. in terms of the 42 11 ratio, I don't feel like I am spinning out, except on tar descents where you can really wind it up. That said most MTB is not big ring flat out stuff anyway.
  2. I thought Sandton only had shopping malls. Do they allow mountain bikes there?
  3. You mean like Banfana won't make the second round or what......
  4. I have lost 20kg in the past three months. I cannot keep up with some of the guys I used to ride away from on the steep descents. That said I am only seconds behind whereas I am minutes ahead of them on the climbs which we used to ride up together. To balance out my loss of speed I bought some Zipp 404's and we're back in the lead on the downhills as well!
  5. Seven. Doing the MTB and Road this weekend! Maximum value for my money.
  6. The point is we all gripe about motoroists who are inconsiderate. It plays both ways. We are invisible to motorists and we need to ride defensively. I don't think riding 6 abreast on a bust route is too bright on our part. If we clean up our act and ride responsibly then we have the right to complain. If we ride like idiots, we don't really have a leg to stand on. This is a poor advert for cycling despite the majority of us not riding this way.
  7. Will need to get a Tweed tri suit for next year's Iron Man. Dashing!
  8. I'd pay R40 not to watch Dozi
  9. I think Pfizer should sponsor the TDF and anything goes.... may the fastest multivitamin win!!
  10. Viva the mud! One less target for the taxis to aim at.
  11. After placing a few orders on CRC my LBS is terrified. now if I ask for a quote, the first thing he asks is if I have checked online. Knowing I'm not afraid to shop online his prices have become way more competitive. Eggbeater 4 Ti pedals - R3900! KCNC Ti seatpost R720.
  12. I know. What about a Tshirt with a picture of a medal and water bottle on it

  14. How long is your extension cord and how long are your rides?
  15. Better still get rid of those anorexic road bikes and come play in the mud with us. No cars although a tree did stop in front of me once.
  16. So the moral of the story is don't squirt water - use your powerade - it is much stickier
  17. Can the shops name clients who suck as well?
  18. what bike are you using the shock on
  19. Paint srtipper and a wire brush. Finish with 800 waterpaper then 1000 waterpaper. Alu primer and then paint. Might be worth finding out what your local panelshop will charge. Might costs less than the time effort and materials which you need to buy. They can also do pearl finishes etc, which you won't get in a can.If you get the negatives of the decals made, then they can spray the decals on between the base and clearcost. No peeling issues after that. Good luck.
  20. Try find a good second hand dual susser. If you're not a race snake the dual just gives a much better ride. Be aware though that there is a weight penalty with a dual.
  21. must include a bar one
  22. Jeez and all this time I believed that inflation was around 7 or 8%. I did not realis it was weekly and not annual. My bad
