I really enjoyed version 1.0, and it\'s awesome to see it back again for more fantastic images and great write-ups of the amazing trails on offer around these parts. And to start with Bethlehem farm is a omen of good things to come.
Great to be back! We hope to do it justice and get more people out on the trails.

You won't regret it, it checks a lot of boxes 👌

Nothing new can really be said about 2020 and the challenges we all faced during the year. The WP DH season was no exception to things being negatively affected, but luckily we got to end things on a very high note indeed. For the first time in years, Hellsend Dirt Compound played host to a DH event, and it did not disappoint. This spectator friendly track offers everything from tight & techy, to loose & fast - and ad to that one of the easiest and bike-friendly shuttle roads in SA.

Jonkershoek. Arguably SA’s best trail network. Countless events have treaded these hills, from enduro MTB to trail running to marathon stage races like the Cape Epic. This weekend however was the turn, and return, of the Western Province Downhill series. After a 2 year hiatus, the track was revived and renewed by master trail builder Bennet Nel, but remained relatively unaltered in terms of features, layout and length from previous years.

The 2020 Western Cape Downhill season kicked off with an absolute bang this past weekend, for the first time in a very long time, hitting triple digits in entries. With the event doubling up as a shuttle day on Saturday and race day on Sunday, and the inclusion the Enduro category, plenty new riders joined the party to start the year on a very positive note indeed.
Well done guys, your articles and photography have been off the charts. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the work you've done. You really have captured the essence of what MTB is all about.
Thanks dude! Happy to hear the positive feedback!
I've ridden pretty much every trail in this list, so I voted for the one that I have not purely because it looks like an amazing adventure: Â The Fatbiking.
Â
Damn MTB is amazing, and to have it shot so well, this is just winning. Â We often get caught up in the fact that Zuma is busy destroying SA, crime etc is mad, the Rand is ******, etc etc, but looking at these pics, reminds me why we're lucky to live here. Â That Signal Hill loop is amazing to do after meetings, Jonkers on a Saturday whilst my GF hits the market, and then GRTP for a weekend away... just so freaking amazing.
Unfortunately there's so much hate towards fatbiking, specially in SA, but it really works well on that sort of mission. And that stretch of coastline is just next level, so everything came together nicely on that trip
Â
And **** Zuma.
Karkloof man! You can get lost in that place with the amount of trails they have. And then just over the hill there's Howick as well. Not to mention how the trails move from plantations to open fields. It's just such a unique experience.
Very true. I've visited that place 3 times now, and every time I realise how fast it is, and how much more there is to ride. Hylton and his crew have been very busy over the years and we're so lucky to have that sort of dedication.
You're an amazing photog, you are capable of making Dan Dob look good!
Â
look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
Thanks dude! Hopefully much more to come soon!Â
Jonkershoek for the win!
Â
They're all great, but Jonkershoek is just in it's own league.

[edit] - Forgot to thank the Trail Daze team for increasing the drool factor, and really bringing home to those of us stuck in the 8-5 rut why MTB is just such an insanely good adventure to be a part of, and making the wait for the weekend just so worth it. Thanks for this series, it was awesome, and I really enjoyed the surprises that were revealed when I opened the latest article that got posted here. Â
Â
Thanks for the kind words Robbie! Glad we could inspire you to get to get out and ride. And I'd have to agree on the bit about Jonkershoek
Looking back at the best of Trail Daze 2017, and the wrap of a three year long passion project. After three amazing but challenging years of documenting South Africa’s finest trails, the Trail Daze project has punched its final ticket. From Cape Town to KZN, we’ve travelled the country to try and bring justice to […]

The Trail Daze crew wrap up their 2017 KZN trip as they head out further along the N3 towards the quiet town of Howick for a dusty sunset session.
Â
About an hour's drive further up the coast from last month's Trail Daze destination, we re-visited the now world-famous Garden Route Trail Park, to round off our trip up the N2.
Â
Following last year's example in a desperate attempt to find greener pastures, a Southeaster-less, damp riding environment and even some loam, we headed about four hours up the N2 towards the Garden Route.
Agree, a writeup on the provincials would also be good. There was nothing here on the Paarl round a week ago.
I agree. I was however not available to shoot this event as I was covering the Attakwas and I'm not sure who was officially covering the provincial DH at Paarl.
Round one of the 2017 SA Downhill Cup series kicked off with a bang and some tight racing this past weekend. Plenty of KZN riders made the trip down Cape Town to join in and give the Western Province boys a good run for their money on the ever popular Helderberg Downhill track.
Â
Kicking off 2017, the Trail Daze crew re-visited Cape Town to bring you the second of this two-part (part one) mother-city mountain biking showcase. We were joined by local pinner, industry influencer and all-round nice guy, Mark Hopkins.
Â
Â
As part one of a two part series, we head to the ever friendly (and often relentlessly windy) Cape Town to take a closer look at mountain biking in and around the mother city.
Â
Having hosted countless mountain biking events, ranging from XC to Enduro to DH (some of them at National level), the Helderberg Trail Network certainly does not need any formal introduction.
Â
Crossing the Helshoogte Pass into the incredibly scenic Franschhoek valley, we stopped off at the more-than-300-year-old Boschendal wine farm, to see what the Boschendal team and master trail builder, Bennet Nel have put together.

The weekend of 9th to the 11th of September 2016, saw 52 brave riders head to Ceres, to take on the 2nd edition of the brutal and challenging, invite-only, EzelEnduro.
Â
Wrapping up our trip to KZN, the Trail Daze crew headed for Karkloof - an amazing trail network with immense flow and maximum fun factor, sculpted by master trail builder Hylton Turvey.

They're definitely not E-bike specific, but can certainly be enjoyed by both. That's why we had a normal bike and E-bike in the episode.
