  1. While I was riding along on a flat, smooth gravel road, I heard a loud bang. When I stopped, my rear tyre was of the rim. I am running ZTR Arch 29er rims with Racing Ralph Tubeless ready tyres. Tried to reseat the tyre using a pump, but no luck. Tried a bomb and it seated. As soon as I removed the nozzle from the valve, another loud bang and the tyre popped of again. Was out of bombs and fitted a tube. This worked but the tyre had a bad wobble. It looked as if the tyre was not fully on the rim, but I couldnt get it to run true and I suspect that the tyre was deformed in some way. Anybody came across this before? The tyres have done about 600km. PS. did a rocky 55km race yesterday, and I hate to think what would have happened if the wheel popped off on one of those downhills...
  2. Let me Google that for you! Order Here
  3. Thanks JB. Whats your take on putting continous cables on this bike?
  4. the frame in the pic. Flash 29er. Thanks, will look for it. Any other opinions?
  5. I have SRAM x9 2x10 on my bike and the shifting became difficult and squeeky after the first few dusty rides (bike still new). The shiftlever also have difficulty returning to the normal position after shifting, so I guess it is dirty cables. The current cable housing only cover short sections of the cables (for RD only at the shifter and then a short piece at the RD, rest is open cable), so I wonder if upgrading to XTR or Gore cables will make a big difference as there are very little housing required with this frame's cable routing. Any tips will be welcomed. Will I be able to run fully housed cable on this frame and is it advisable? http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/6178/flash1w.jpg
  6. where do you buy these in SA?
  7. Gelukkig is die grafieke in voet. Did this 2 years now and amazing how big this race became in 2 years. By now means an easy route. Lekker party afterwards with friendly locals.
  8. easiest, inflate to right pressure, put the wheel on the floor with valve perpendicular to the floor and make a mark on the floor, sit on the bike and push forward one rotation in a staight line. make another mark. measure it, thats your diameter.
  9. I also bought a 29er recently because it was time for an upgrade. My opinion is: If you are in the market for a new bike, add a 29er to your short list, but don't go out and spend a lot of money if you bought a 26 dual or hardtail recently because you think the 29er will make your ride faster or your riding more enjoyable. The time saving we are talking about is about 5minutes on a 9 hour ride, so 1min 40 on a 3 hour cross country race (take more water and make one less stop at the water point to save the same time). I also think that the change will be more noticeable for someone that used to ride a 26 HT as opposed to someone changing from a 26 Dual to a 29HT. a 29HT does not offer the same amount of forgiveness as a 26 dual as some people seem to think. Few weak points I have noticed: slower to accelerate for a sprint or to pass slower people on a single track when you need a quick burst of speed. Handling on single track and tight turns are more difficult.
  10. Depends on the geometry and setup of the cockpit on the bike, can not say that one will lift easier than the other without taking other variables into consideration. Some guys with Spec Stumpy 29ers put negative rise stems on the bikes to keep the front down, but other brands might not have the problem to the same degree.
  11. Hi Hellwarp and the rest of the team!! Job well done guys/girls! A great thank you to all of the people that is involved in this project. We had a great time on the trails this morning. Started just after 8:00 at Middelvlei but our group quickly split after a one of us punctured. Enjoyed a very leisurely ride as we were a group with varied experience and fitness levels. Gave me some time to enjoy some of the beautiful scenery. Great to have another option to ride close to Stellenbosch. PS. One of the riders in our group had a fall, so we couldn't complete the full red route, will be back!
  12. From the left turn at the momument it is 7km and 445m climbing. from the other side where the climb begins is is 7km and 368m climbing.
  13. Why not consider the highest ranking lube on MTBR.com (the only lube to be awarded a best of MTBR award two years running) Do a google for Chain-L reviews to see what other riders say about Chain-L. Here
  14. where do you buy them in SA?
  15. Thanks jb. Bike has now done 400km. This happened 3 times since the first day i used the bike so none of the points can be a valid explanation.
  16. bump
  17. SRAM se combos wat werk is as volg: 26-39, 28-42. In 2x10 lyk jou beste opsie dus na 28-42.
  18. What casette do you have, maybe try to go for an 11-? next time. If you are already on a 11, I am sure you can change the size of the large chainring. If you had that same ratio on a 29er, you would have had less of a problem keeping up. Just watch out for changing problems when you switch the chainring - could prove a problem if the jump from the small to the large ring is to great. Nice bike!
  19. Great Ghostface, now all we need is the weight???
  20. All I can say about the hype.....its not!
  21. More cracks: Giant Anthen X1 29er recall
  22. Agree, friend has the Hardtail non tubeless weighs 12kg, so 11.3 for a full sounds light. It does have other parts than the HT though....but still lighter is hard to believe. Any news when this Giant will be available? where can I get that brochure pictured above?
