  1. Not if you do it regularly. A stitch in time saves 9 or more....ball bearings
  2. Might even be a creaky fork tube. If you're in Joburg Jako at Shockingly Good Service (specialist suspension guy) can help. 0714398832
  3. Have you checked the top bearing ie correct bearing & still ok? Theres a small chance it WAS the correct bearing and its now incorrect? When you reassemble the steerer are you first tightening the centre cap bolt and THEN the 2 pinch bolts on the stem? Do you have the right amount of spacers on the steerer?
  4. I battled like mad to find for my 6750. If I recall I came right here. Shimano/Cool heat are useless. Still available overseas.
  5. AFAIK it's 80kmhr for that section.
  6. Just an update to this thread. So far I've restored/repaired a 10+ year old damaged pair of Spez shoes and a Hubbers shoes damaged in a fall. I'm happy to extend this service to anyone who needs their shoes sorted. I might look at customisation and art later on... Work involves a clean, stripping the top coat, sanding, repairs, around 5 coats of colour and 2 to 3 clear "top" coats. VID-20221107-WA0013.mp4
  7. I know of a Top Fuel that went to BSC to have a larger chainring and new chain fitted. Chain was probably just cut to same no. of links as the end result was 1 or 2 links too short. It's things like this that made me learn to work on my own bike. I only entrust a LBS with wheel truing and take my suspension to a specialist that I know really well. Plus I get the enjoyment of doing the work (right) and saving a fee Escudos.
  8. Spend some time on your bike and I think you'll be faster (and wealthier) for not changing ratios.
  9. Umm OP 's post was to get thru 947. Not even LA, DR. Ferrari & a power meter are gonna help. If you're undertrained you're undertrained. IMHO if you have to spin up higher than a 39:28 on any climb in the 947 you might as well be on a MTB or walking beside your bike.
  10. I weigh 105kg and have only ever cried for an easier gear when I rode the Jock in 2000 on a 9 speed and some time after up Hekpoort on the same bike. I've never believed in compact as it dulls the advantage of performance of a road bike by making you spin out too soon. I have 2 rear wheels with a 28 and a 27 and I never let myself use them. I stop at 2nd gear. Not sure of your full circumstances but unless you've got health issue or are are less than undertrained you should get by with what you've got.
  11. I've ridden in the Cradle since before it became a full loop and am saddened and pi$$ed that guys like your attacker spoil such a cool place. Have you been able to sit down with Garth (Bidon) to check his cameras? He's got excellent coverage and if you review within say 30 mins before attack its possible you can ID the group. Large group of riders - it's quite likely they rode from Bidon. Garth has a camera near the road and as I understand it he has or at one stage had numberplate recognition software.
  12. At 5 Bar the rim will probably fail. I've heard of rims cracking at 3 bar...
  13. If you're in Jhb try Wolf at Linden Cycles or Sheldon ar Dagleys (used to be Cycle United)
  14. I've never had to even think of using a lever to seat a tyre....
  15. Don't try to buy pivot bearings at BMG etc. As the pivots only rotate x degrees back and forth it's better to use a Max type (full complement) bearing. There are lower cost alternatives to Enduro that aren't cr@p.
  16. You shouldn't be seeing your GT. Make sure you start with the right width and that its stuck down on a clean rim.I agree in part with the post above...replace the GT with decent rim tape but use the Enduro Seal. I've used it for 2 years hassle free. I fit new tyres without spilling a drop. I get them to seat at the filling station then add sealant and re-pump at home. Ard you shaking your sealant before using?
  17. I doubt they are irradiating or adding anything. Could be that the strain you are growing isn't the same. Maybe GMO comes into it. If you've ever been to one of the Fresh Produce Markets you'll realize that there are different prices based on age. The cheaper it is the older it is. For eg a fresh pepper you could use as a mirror is close to what you see at Woolworths and maybe Checkers but the dull, limp peppers at Spar and Pnp are probably 3 weeks older.....same goes for all the other products. It's mind-blowing when you see a hall only for potatoes...
  18. I use an Allen key socket with a PowerBar (long wrench not the overpriced energy bar) 😀
  19. Have dropped you a message.
  20. That might require some open-heart-surgery but nothings impossible.
  21. 👍 that's the plan. I'll be starting on my own spare pair of Spez shoes shortly with a before:after.
  22. Thanks. The high price of decent shoes is what started me thinking. Its not great to replace shoes after a scuff or when the finish and the non-aging carbon sole is still good. I'm going to look at customization also. It's a special leather paint that can handle flexing which doesn't come cheap but I have time and while it's not entirely free I plan on keeping prices reasonable.
  23. Nice idea. One could maybe cut that u-shaped pad out of a heel that shoemaker fit to your shoes when they resole. Just cut with a small band or jig saw and grind to fit. Or buy hard material.
  24. Thanks. I'll PM you my no if you could then perhaps whatsapp me pics showing damage and other angles?
  25. Cool - Thank you I'll do that. I'll send you my number so you can send me some pics for us to assess what's required. 👍
