One place I will never save weight is tyres. The teams that seem to be having tyre problems are running Conti and Spez. both these companies make "protection" type tyres so I guess they like fixing punctures or are prepared to loose the race for being a weight weenie.
Apparently the major tyre issue yesterday was a rock got kicked up and jammed between the frame and wheel thus cracking the carbon rim. Then they have to put a tube in but first have to pick out the 20 thorns.
Sauser had his rear brake pad spring somehow get mangled in the caliper and rotor, had to keep stopping to try fix it. Erik and Nico had to try help and then pace them to the finish.
That's fantastic compared to my last driveline lasted 2000km's and yes I do look after it very well, just one to many muddy rides. Last chain 321km's with one really muddy 40km ride. KCNC $h!t.
Same thing happened last year with Songo and the Bulls on different days if I remember correctly. They all seem to be going straight at one of the right turns.
