  1. Had a similar situation with my daughter(4) and her cousin (6). as per the invaluable advice on le hub, I took her training wheels off immediately and she took to it like a duck to water. Her cousin didn't. His parents where always adamant that, no he can't ride without training wheels. Tbh I just don't think the parents paid enough attention. So I played a game with them, lets swap bikes and guess what happens - he rides without the wheels. Got so be@#$@#$ at his parents told them to take it off and stick around when he rides.
  2. I don't, but maybe its due to lack of oxygen? I know that's something I struggle with ie exhaling and the build of of carbon is what ultimately leads me to cramping.
  3. Funny I see this, was just gonna ask about the cycling shorts for kids. Saw them at the Junior argus expo at Canal Walk but for the life of me can't remember what brand they were and where to get them. My little ones have been putting a lot of time on their bikes but have been complaining that their bums are getting sore. So I'm looking for those padded shorts. Any one know where I could get them, sizes for age 3 and 5.
  4. I for one am glad I'm doing it on my MTB this year You guys notice all the manhole covers are raised and marked as if that's going to help?
  5. Yep, I bought the first ascent one, funny enough it fitted better than the others i put up in a poll I did in another thread.
  6. We are talking about the water in the V&A habour, is it really that cold?
  7. Soo Im thinking of giving the cape town ITU Triathlon a tri , Do you think its doable without a wetsuit? I know a wetsuit is preferable but given the cost of the event and the cost of hiring a wetsuit, its a little out of my budget also considering all the other races happening in succession?
  8. Sooo, I need a new pair of shoes, and thought I would get my running analyzed and get a recommendation of what shoe to get. Anyone have any recommendations in cape town, pref southern suburbs?
  9. Watching that video I can't help but see how hard/tight the "b" line or more accurately "my line" is on the DH's. Gonna make for interesting times, gonna have to get a cam to contribute to the "Not so hot dismounts in action" thread
  10. Anyone know if the inverse is possible? Have more than 7 people that are interested. Can I buy on behalf of them? or does it strictly have to be at least one person in the.... ("flamesuit-on") four ball in person
  11. Interested to see this reply as well, sharks and whales, um ya
  12. One that note, are there any tri clubs in the southern suburbs (of cpt )
  13. Never knew this, always walk past the one standing at surfers corner
  14. I don't do much road cycling but I think I will give it a tri with the week of the argus, ie swim 3 days before the argus and run 3 days after. Will be good prep for the oceans half as well as that would be 3 weeks away. Shot for the suggestions.
  15. Thanx for that and I concur: one is able to do more. If I may ask, what did your 7 months contain ito training?
  16. Starting to eye a 70.3 maybe next year What would you folks say is a good litmus test to be able to complete lets say East London's 70.3. Something along the lines of you should be able to swim x, cycle y and run z. And please not x= 1.9km,y=90km, z=21.1km . What would you say a realistic training goal to reach would be. Also, is something like the xterra full a good test or is it that x2? I know everyone is different, but just trying to get a feel for what it would take if that's possible.
  17. Anybody know where we can get the route profiles for the lite and full. I have already emailed stillwater sports as the pics on their site is a leeetle small.
  18. Skipped last years light and hopefully back to do the lite on sunday. Anyone doing this this year?
  19. Um about that wildcard thing, do you mean activity card? Cause my mistake the first time was getting a wild card and then being told at tokai that I needed an activity card?
  20. Anyone have a google map with some pin points of what is open and what is not?
  21. No need to switch it off, just point it down onto your wheel if you can. Helps the whole group
  22. Hehehe, not quite Yep forgot to mention, as pointed out by No Hare, the light facing the rear and on strobe mode. Even cars wanting to turn left, instead of dashing ahead of you and cutting you off tended to slow down and let you continue straight.
  23. I haven't read all 117 pages so I don't know if it has been discussed before, but thought I'd put my observation here. I sometimes commute about 5km down the main rd btw plumstead and tokai in cape town. I've noticed a distinct difference in clearance from vehicles after I took my bicycle light off my handle bars and strapped it to my seat post, facing slightly down and on strobe mode.
  24. So after holding out for a very long time, I eventually got this platform rack 2nd hand at a good price. http://www.roofrackworld.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/HF2131-Portfolio-630x250.jpg First impressions is that is quite light and my bike fits on ok. Few issues though, its not as stable as I would have hoped. My bike moved around quite a bit and I think it has to do with the center post not being able to be locked into the vertical position and my lack of tying skills . Basically the center mast holds up the bike but the bike also holds the mast up. Is there anyone else with the rack that can tell me if this is this how its supposed to be? Also if it was only a few cm shorter it could fit in my boot, but that's just me being picky. All in all for the price its more than ok, just wish I could secure that center post.
  25. TaahirWP and the other guys recommending BNB bike rack, thats exactly what I would be after, except that you can't find it anyhere Either that or my googling sucks
