  8. Short of it is, take a look at the video and let me know any suggestions ? The long version Last week I was decided to service my bike, but this time I was going to do the rear bearings because they sounded a bit rough. at this stage this is all that was wrong with the bike. Shimano Ultegra rear wheel https://si.shimano.com/#/en/EV/WH-6700-R Upon having it all apart I saw that the driver side cone was pitted, photo below, No idea where to buy one of those and not having the correct spanner to take off the driver side, I decided maybe this is a job for the pros. Put it all back together new grease ect, took for a ride all good, besides for a rough bearing which I was now hyper aware of. Couple days later I took my bike into the shop, explained the issue show the mechanic the photos, he said it will have to be ordered from Shimano, and booked in for major service, so all bearings get checked. a day later they call, need new bottom bracket and headset bearings, rear wheel is sorted he used a part he had in the shop no charge. now that its back, there is a scary wobble in the rear hub, the shop says hub is damaged, and I wont be able to get those hubs anymore but it wont affect shifting performance and all the bearings have been replaced. After seeing it I took the cassette off, and it looks as if the freewheel body is on the wheel at an angle, or is not in place.. can this be should i take it apart again,, or just leave the wobble.. Any suggestions
  9. Incase anyone needs, the route link that was shared previously only works on the app, here is a web version https://www.strava.com/routes/21090782 Here is the original. https://strava.app.link/lLFs4B0qp0
  10. Nope both offers sealed bearings Shimano XT Pulley Wheels RD-M8000 Precision sealed bearings in both guide and tension pulleys keep drivetrain smooth and friction-free. and that's the cheaper of the two...
  11. Simple question really, is it worth spending extra on more expensive jockey wheels ? is there any difference? Shimano XT Pulley Wheels RD-M8000 vs Shimano RD-M9000/9050 pulleys.R450 vs R165 Quite a price difference, what is it that you pay the extra for? I can't seem to find any info or specs on the jockey wheels.
  12. I agree weight is not the primary gain, I have been on the tubeless road for almost 4 years now, Riding the Schwalbe Pro One 25c comes in at 280g and I only add in 30ml of sealant. I do however clean and replace the sealant every 2 to 3 months. extra maintenance but I get to ride at 5 to 6 bar, and only ever had two cuts that didn't seal. Instead of carrying a spare tube I carry an extra 60ml bottle of sealent and 2 bombs. https://www.schwalbe.com/en/road-reader/schwalbe-pro-one.html The only complaint I have is the price, so keen on trying those Giant tires soon. but also these contis might keep the legendary longevity, which will be a good bonus.
  13. Apologies, yes you are correct, its the Fusion 3 that lasted well.
  14. Hi, I think you are all sorted with tubeless, just thought I would drop a note. I have been on tubeless road for 4 years, been through most of the brands of tyres and sealants. Tyre wise Hutchinson fusion 4 lasts the longest, specialized is the most comfortable grippy, but schwalbe pro one is by far the best tire all round. Sealants. Stans really good keeps the tyres nice and balanced. Schwalbe focused blue is stans with other packaging, Sans race sealent is awesome but needs to be cleaned out every 2 months. Bontrager tlr sealent gets my vote as all round best. Seals better than stans at high pressure and lasts longer. Word of note: as soon as the sealant gets hard and old.. you have to clean it out. And it's a mission to get off the inside of the tyres. The hard sealant messes with the balance of the road tyres at high speeds. Solution is to ride allot so you wear out the tyre before the sealent drys. For cuts I use eaither tyre boots from sportsmen's warehouse. Or really well stuck on tube patches. Never had luck with the worms. All the best
  15. Awesome thank you Andrew, I might just take you up on the offer, I thought they all looked the same.
  16. Hi everyone, I am keen on trying to service my forks, but I have a few issues.. 1. Not 100% sure on my fork model 2. Where do you even buy a service kit 3. Are other service kits compatible? example a pike to a SID ? or do you get generic 1: Identity, I think I have the Rock Shox SID XX SOLO AIR 29 Xloc 2013 https://www.sram.com/service/techdocs/service-manual-sid-front-suspension-fork-2013 But is there any way to confirm via the Serial number? 34T20010973 As far as I understand it 34 Week of 2002 ? or is that 12 which they rolled up to 2013? 2, Pretty straight forward where can I get a service kit and the suspension fluid/s 3. I think I would prefer to use original parts, but could I, for instance, get a pike service kit and use it on a SID? Any Help is much appreciated.
  17. I totally agree, best is very subjective. just because they give great coffee and scones at the reception does not make for a good wheel builder. I just want a wheel with the correct spoke tensions and fairly straight.Because my larger frame of 100kgs seems to highlight incorrect spoke tensions really quickly. :-P
  18. Hi everyone, I am looking for a wheel builder, but the topic hasn't been active for two years.. any updates info ? Preferably someone close to west coast or cape town city.
  19. No, I didn't mean the piston popped out. That's still in and fine. Bleed block stayed in. What popped out.. I have no idea.. No riding for me :-( Could it be just the cable damage or do I have to replace the caliper.
  20. No, I didn't mean the piston popped out. That's still in and fine. Bleed block stayed in. What popped out I have no idea. No riding for me :-( Could it be just the cable damage or do I have to replace the caliper.
  21. Still had the block in there when it popped .. I didnt notice the cable damage before or during, but as soon as i heard the click/pop i noticed the cable damage .. could that cause the oil to drain out from the caliper piston ?
  22. Caliper leaking.. :-( .. and yes late night maintenance efforts ended in disaster .. Only bleed screws loosened, i posted a few pictures
  23. The Bleed went perfectly .. well almost, at the end of the bleed, i pumped the break level, then something clicked, popped.. then all the brake oil drained out of the caliper, brake block was still in so its not the piston popping out, but after cleaning everything. its pretty clear the oil is leaking from the piston itself. If the caliper seal gone ? need a new caliper .. or could this be a cause of the break hose failing. what the possibility that the caliper is fine and i just need to replace the hose ..
  24. Mornings Johann, happy New Year and all that jazz. All the best to you and yours. Brakes SLX Shimano, bleed process went perfect. Until the end where with the the cup still attached, you tap the system for air bubbles and pump the brakes. Then something clicked, which could be the cable damage..but the oil is coming from the piston..
