  1. Far from being a fanboy. Haven’t ridden a Specialized in years and have been badly done over by them, so no love lost. I can assure you that Sinyard has nowhere near a net worth of almost a billion dollars. Whoever wrote that article grabbed at stompies and applied it to the individual as opposed to the company. And no I’m not defending him, but if he was worth almost a billion dollars as an individual, we would have seen nothing but Specialized all around us. FWIW it was determined that Raleigh Bicycles has the biggest net worth. Which is estimated at $ 1.8 billion.
  2. Yet one would never think it. The man lives humble, with a humble home. But then again, Specialized is an empire. I wonder if that net worth is the business or Mike the individual? But I digress, no doubt (and no one in particular here) some distributors are maximizing their profits
  3. The general belief is that if a bike costs R 100 k the shop is making R 50 k. Then a lot of guys take their pension and start a bike shop, only to realize it’s not a quick money making racket.
  4. They are great. Can’t live without them, and pretty much most of the Park Took catalogue. They do have incredible tools.
  5. Luckily I have both.
  6. I’ve decided to take my workshop a little beyond the home workstand and YouTube centre.
  7. Please wake me up when all the chest beating here in this fred is done. Have a lekker burn Bennie 👍🏼
  8. Learning is very much part and parcel of what I’ve done being a bike mechanic for the past 33 years. Learning never stops, except for the Bornman clan that graduated from the Dunning Kruger UNI with distinction.
  9. Indeed I read, observe and smile, sometimes even chuckle
  10. It's a gamble. You need to actually measure it with a vernier, or look at the markings on the existing post. My guess would be that it's in the 30's
  11. This is my one. Quite old now, if I say 10 years I might even be lying, probably even older (can’t remember when they came out) It’s a brilliant tool. The most accurate of all chain checkers, and I have around 20 different ones. To elaborate on the rest. I’m not a big fan of changing a chain like underpants. My usual recommendation to people is to ride the drivetrain till it’s properly done. There is really no financial rescue, nor an exponential wear gain by replacing the chain every now and then.
  12. When I saw this topic early this morning through sleepy eyes, I read "ride friends who are separated" It did make me quite nervous.
  13. I learnt a few things very early in life. When it comes to semantics, any debate is futile. When someone gives themselves off as an expert, but cant even manage using a chain breaker (this happened during a ride) they are not worth debating with. But I will give it to the man, he has strong arms, he managed to pull the wool over many peoples eyes.
  14. What kinda riding are we talking bout here ?
  15. The guy thumb sucked everything he said, also just wanted to be controversial for the sake of it. Technically and mechanically inept.
  16. Taken with the Fujifilm X-T5 and 10-24 lens
  17. Probably because he found this a little too advanced to understand.
  18. I’m simply just reading with great interest.
  19. If you are in Johannesburg we can help you with these.
  20. Most bad wheel builds only manifest themselves after a long period like a year of regular riding. Many can lace and build a good looking wheel. Building a lasting wheel is a whole different animal.
  21. There is lots. Jagwire and Swisstop have great options.
  22. Correct, and then you get wheelbuilders that fix other wheelbuilders mistakes.
  23. And you get 38 teeth on the large ends right ?
