  1. TaahirWP and the other guys recommending BNB bike rack, thats exactly what I would be after, except that you can't find it anyhere  Either that or my googling sucks [emoji14]h34r:

Really? Shucks...... did u call up makro to inquire yet? Game maybe?
  2. I didn't read much of this thread, but I have a B&B rack and have been using it for about 1 year now.

It is a platform each which mounts onto my towbar. I paid R500 second hand. And I think they sold at macro and game for like R995 a while back. I think there is a R1900 model as well, but I'm not sure.

All I can say is this thing does exactly what I want it to do. Hold my bikes, don't damage my bikes, and not really affected by wind. It does get a bit heavy with two bikes tied.

I use an old cut up bicycle tube to reinforce tying the wheels down to the rack, and also reinforced the clamp arm with a piece of tube.

I for about 8 months last year I travelled through the overberg each weekend with my bike on the back through hectic winds that blew trailers over. Every time I arrived safely with the bike in position, maybe position shifted a little bit now and then, bug nothing dangerous far.

Best R500 I spent on biking so far.

  3. A buddy of mine has the Rage knee and elbow pads. Although they offer great protection, he mentioned they are a bit to bulky for long days on the bike and long climbs.

I use the IXS Flow pads, really comfy, after a while I forget about them and they don't move or slip down at all.

The flows lack side protection, how have they worked when taking a fall so far?

Action cycling has the ixs carve, so I think international trade probably brings them in now, I'd go with those.

Currently using the ION pads, awesome. I climb with them as well, not the coolest but ya I climb with them and fallen with them and they awesome.

The new leatt pads looks good as well?

  4. Any reason you didn't just opt for the more trail orientated shimano's as opposed to a full blown DH pedal?

    Yes there is,

Firstly I rode xc pedals so I know lightweight. Therefore I considered the XT trail pedal. And my tiny XT pedals even got in the way sometimes, smashing rocks n roots etc. So XTs and similar was considered.

Then it came down to support, xc pedals dud not stop my feet from "rolling" around the pedals, especially during climbs when I'm cranking it. So I needed a box that would prevent the rolling. XT was still an option but the DX had a wider base for the sole of my shoes to seat. DX was more in the light at this point, however I would still consider XT Cz of price.

performance, I could not say Cz I never used it before. Only pro semi pro comments and reviews. However I had both the DX, XT, 424 and 545 or some sort of numbers like that, in my hands. Could feel that dx would give more grip.

Longevity. Well some one I know who swears by dx , has used all the similar shimano s as well as XT, and says dx can take the most beating. Might be stroke of luck. But I believe him.

Maintenance, dx works on cup and cone bearings, so thing like that. Mechanic sold me when he informed me on what to do in terms of maintenance. Basically just tighten the one nut he pointed out from time to time. Other pedals like the 424 and 545 did not have this.

And then, aesthetic reasons. Looks good too. And u prefer saving and buying something I am sure will last me a good 5 years minimum.

  5. What you end up paying?

Nothing cheap, but better than full price.

    R1000

Been putting off getting a set for the last 1.5 year's now.

Honestly I am sure which other pedal could be compared to the dx, maybe mallets - but that's crank brother's and apparently high maintenance, so I steered clear.

The first things I noticed about the pedals Was weight, grip and overall support from the cage, and dent in my wallet[emoji4]

  6. Will definitely consider them thanks Taahirwp! Didn't know I could find them locally. Living in Bloem sucks when it comes to items like this. Will give action cycles a call.

    Apreciate the feedback!

No probz, give them a call and ask to speak to Devon. They a bit busy due to argus and everything, but I know he will be putting in an order soon. Maybe you could arrange with him delivery to you directly from the supplier.
  7. Hi,

Has anyone bought any protective gear from CRC lately?? Keen on ordering a pair of knee pad but would like to know what duties etc I'm looking at on them and if its even worth while?

    Cheers

My previous post was a response to your fox enduro post.
  8. Did u consider the ixs carve? It was my first choice but international trade only stocked the ixs flow. Then I got myself the ion 2014 pads(locally). was super sad when I saw the is carve kneepads hanging on the wall at action cycling in CT

  9. I removed my HD combo last week and set some sweet new Vee Rubber Crown tires on my bike.

These tires roll like a XC and grip like baboons claw to a banana.

Took them down contermanskloof at 2bar pressure and they held up very well to the jagged rocks, no rim slams, tears or damage... sidewalls hold up very well. I dropped them to about 1.8bar down Bloemslang and normal st and they were awesome.

these tires come in at 708g per tire(manufacturer stated) so managed to drop about 500g off the bike from the HD SG and PS combo.

Please give us your long term review when time comes. Very keen to read.
  10. Just got to say I've had zero issues with my WTB Bronsons and zero punctures, which includes MANKELE Avalanche and Juma Urban Assault, over the last few months I've owned the Santa Cruz. I've just ordered some more from Mike's Bikes.

which variant of bronson do you have, or is there only one type available? Price? Cheapest I can get a Bronson for is R595. 26er that is.. Is ur bronson living quite well for is soft rubber compound ye?

Which did you team is up with out back?

  11. Also,

    At capricorn:

If the Magics are lasting over a year already, and still have about one year left (on the front) - that is really good in my books!

I would actually pay the price (easybikes price) for a tyre that good that lasts ±2yrs...

  12. Bear in mind that, by all accounts, you are pretty light while myself and some of the other guys mentioning the tearing were not really designed in a wind tunnel...

    It may make a difference.

I hope it does make a difference! I really don't want to make a purchase, and then a few rides in I get the "I told you so" feeling. After all tyres are not really cheap.

I've noticed some wear/tear on the side knobs at the base of my schwalbe (pacestar though). It is not braking wear( I know what that looks like:-)) the side knob still stands proud, and as cap said earlier - base of knob and tyre top cap junction. But its okay though. I had the tyre for about a year now, nothing has broken off. Maybe this is the "my weight" factor.

Hope so, really do. Just sucks that it seems I will have to be importing from CRC, local stock is so crappy.

  13. I decided to expand my choice of rubber, and went with a Maxxis High Roller II EXO maxxterra 3C for rear tyre duty.

Cutting to the chase and my point about riding style, the side knobs on the HR II are pulling off almost exactly the same way as they did on the Schwalbe

did you have the HR II on the front yet? Would the same happen if the tyre was up front?

The HD knob tear issue, is it isolated to occurring on the rear, or does it happen on the front too?

Bronson on the front anyone? (No vigilante in 26)

  14. The HD are pretty well known for that issue, they tend to tear but not come off completely as far as I can see. To a lesser degree I am having the same thing with my Muddy Mary.

so does that mean that one should rather stay away from the HD? Seeing that it is so common, the chances of it happening on any HD is more than 70% or so?

Which tyre would be the next "go to" tyre. Bronson maybe? Seeing that 26inch options in SA is so limited. Can a Bronson even be compared to a HD? In price yes.... HD @R499(easybike) and Bronson@R695(stoke).

  15. So I have ridden the HD trailsar as a front tyre for about 100km, if that. It certainly has grip is truck loads, but I can already see the side knobs attempting to part company with the casing... Not falling off yet, but durability seems way less than teh SG version that is still doing duty on the rear...

Not able to get the Ibex 2.4 for 26 inch locally in SA, the MMary too. So i was considering the HD. Well, your above statement just put me off completely.

Seems WTB also stopped manufacturing 26inch Vigilante tyres as well.

  16. Ha, that's exactly what I have just done. My rear is now a HD SG 2.35 and it looks massive on the rear flow rim while the snakeskin trailstar 2.35 on a slightly narrower DT rim looks a bit skinny - grip is good though and bike feels a lot more plush out back with that big boy...

    Pics??

  17. Never had any hassles with mine.

Have you made sure that the small black rotating cut off valve on the bite valve is not partially closed by any chance? It's not nearly as obvious as the CB cut off valve and it caught me out once in the beginning...

I got myself the Dakine Nomad pack - very happy with it. thanks to all that assisted me in making a decision. i initially struggled with the valve, but then figured it out. it has 3 settings actually:

    1. closed
    2. sip sip
    3. open

I think its a nice feature. and no hassles thus far.
