  1. I'm sure. I just think these are a more imaginative choice. I see more value in trying something different for myself and seeing the results as apposed to just going with what everyone likes.

    Just joking..

On a other note. The commuter has now had a purgatory in GRiD version. 2.3 wide. It is light and very nice!

Also, I had about 40km on a 2.25 trail boss (with a tube). Very nice too. Rolls much faster than the purgatory. I'm yet to push the tyre though... will give it some more time. It's heavy though.

Note I used both tyres on the front.. but at different times. The Boss has short centre knobs and high side knobs.. probably why it rolls so well. Also nice under braking.

  2. were you not selling wheels off a old red goose frame and on that frame was a rigid fork ... sent someone your way to see if he could wangle it out from you as he is looking for a rigid fork for his commuter

    Thanks....

Yes I was, then my dad said "just build me that frame up for me my boy!" And I was like... "dad I'm selling everything". So then said "don't sell anything anymore".

Your buddy did approach me I think. But he backed down during he negotiation phase.. soo...

  3. I know, and you know of someone who would be interested in your old 26'er rigid fork :P

I do? I think I don't..... lol I would actually be very keen on swapping it for a similar valued 26inch air fork with straight steerer. My dad wants a bike, so building something for him. Was gonna use the on One.. but he is probably only going to use it to go around the block very now and then.

  4. Bead is stuffed.

Okay.. but it is seated now and it's been around 80km later... so... I'm a bit lazy to take off.. New rubber=money. So gonna ride it for as long as I can.

    It's just so visually disturbing.

  5. You probably can't. You're in for some new rubber. Always make sure your tyre is correctly seated before inflating it and never exceed the pressures noted on the tyre sidewall.

Used the pump at fuel station...[emoji19]

  6. Sorry to just drop in.. have a tyre question.

My front tyre which is a purgatory (GRiD) on an Arch ex 29" rim, is running skew :cursing:  ...before I got the tyre to inflate, it exploded off the rim.

the rim is perfectly true, but the tyre looks like it is "buckled" <<<for lack of a better way to explain..

How do I get it right?

  7. If I lived down there I would take my bikes to Revolution Cycles for a service tomorrow.... they sound like my kind of crowd. Respect to them.

Have you given any thought to gear ratios?

  9. Weld quality?

I just wanted to put it out there...

I have never owned / ridden a steel frame before.  However, I always wondered about one.  A friend of mine has been on his for around 8years I think he mentioned, and has been riding it all this time with minimal changes.  This inspired me, as I would too like something that would satisfy for such a lengthy period.  He rides rigid too, and he knows how to ride!

    The welds...

Well I can tell you that it looks very neatly done.  (Compared to my trail bike, with welds I do like as well)

The specs shows that the top Tube (TT) is 610mm, I measured 590mm may 595mm but nothing more than that.  rear chainstay (CS) is 435mm, same as trail bike.  So its short, I like!!

Seattube (ST) sits at 435mm, which sits between an inbred 16" and 18".

Im not a fan of the frames brake hose cable routing option.  Looks like Momsen intended to run the hose under the TT and then down the seatstay (SS).  Would've looked nice running the hose like how I have it now, and removing the frame hose bosses under the TT and SS.   Dropper... in not gonna run one yet,  but im definitely routing it under the downtube (DT) as well.

    The build:

You guys are making me shy to post pics.. lol.  it is a commuter, so my components are crappy.  basically im just throwing on what I can find, and what I can afford at the moment.  Just so by the way.. "Kaggel",  "Brett" at Olympic cycles,  SJ at Rev Cycles in town..  Thanks for helping me, may you guys be rewarded in abundance.

  10. I see you have it on a scale. What is the frame weight?

The one shop was keen to see the weight, I wasn't really. Think it was 4.0something kgs.

That was with the carbon fork, stem and headset. Nothing else.

So yes, I would assume the frame to be around the 3.4kg mark probably... its heavy compared to other steelies I think.

  11. He's building a commuter to replace his existing one. Daily use on some tarmac, jeep track and some short single track between where he lives and where he works. So yes. A rigid is ideal. Except he started chasing koms during his commute... Snapped his frame hanger and destroyed his derailleur. I know him. He's gonna ride that thing the same way he does his AM bike. At some point he will forget he has no suspension and push that fork within an inch of its life. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the fork will hold up.

Its just such a stunning frame to own. A Revelation would do it far more justice in my book, or if a decent 120mm Reba popped up I would opt for that over the rigid. Build the bike up so that when he wakes up on a Sunday morning for some proper shredding. He might just opt to take to Momsen instead.

    Hahaha!!

I don't think I should post to this thread at all, looks like Popcorn Skollie has it covered.[emoji4]
