  1. '97. Global warming sucks.
  2. For 94.7? I started in K.
  3. 94.7 - 2:51 - index = 28.00
  4. On a more personal issue: my current racetec seeding index: 23. My current champion chip seeding index (caculated by hand, guessing beta's, and no time penalties): 48 . So I expect to be doing to some TTing at Carnival City 2014.
  5. The seeding lookup on www.pedalpower.org.za/index.php/results-seeding/seeding/seeding-lookup/ is just an iframe to results.pedalpower.org.za/findme.aspx?ss=1 . Do a nslookup on results.pedalpower.org.za and you will see it is the racetec server: Onetime I had a query about seeding at a number collection for a Cycle event + Racetec race. I got directed to racetec employee. For these reasons, I believe that the seeding that you see on the ppa site is the same as what is used for non ppa racetec races. Interestingly, my Carnival city 2013 results are in that seeding data. You guys give them the data to use for 94.7. (Which we do appreciate) I think they then use that data for for other races. However, they then don't reciprocate, and make their data available for championchip race seeding. :cursing: This is nasty anti-competitive behaviour on racetec's part.
  6. According to an article on CSA website: also:
  7. Apparently, at this time, based on the best available sources, we categorically can neither confirm nor deny, that the alleged incident in question occurred in the alleged time frame. This is unfortunately, part and parcel. (Sorry, I should not be making a joke about such a serious issue.) Nothing on Google news yet. Where did you hear this? He was in campaign in Tudor informal settlement in Kagiso west of Johannesburg today, and as far as I am aware, he lives in Sandton, so it probably happened somewhere between those two.
  8. Yhea, well done to NL. Gold, silver, and bronze in the men's 5000m and gold in the women's 3000m. Both sports use the leg extenders (gluts, quads, calves) and both require good core strength. In addition to this, skating uses leg abductors (both legs on the straights, outside leg for crossovers), leg adductors (inside leg for crossovers), and the fibularis longus and fibularis brevis (when doing dutch rolls on the straights.) The ankles stabilizers also need to be very strong to be able to apply power into the skate. So skating uses all the muscles required for cycling. Cycling only uses some of the muscles required for skating. The other thing is, there is a lot more technique to learn in skating than there is in cycling. Learning to hold an outside edge in skating is often a stumbling block to learning to skate. (Disclaimer: I've never done speed skating. My knowledge of skating is from ice hockey & figure skating, and coaching both from beginners to club competition level.) P.S. There is a club that does short speed track at the rink at Festival Mall, Kempton Park. Unfortunately there are no long speed track facilities in the country, neither any frozen rivers to do a Elfstedentocht .
  9. Which is the King?
  10. What time did the 1st BL group come in, and approximately how many were there?
  11. Was only a short outage. They were probably doing a maintenance task. ISP's tend to do these on weekends.
  12. Colours - mostly white, with yellow, pink, and purple. Photo on https://crestawheelers.co.za/ will give you a better idea.
  13. Ah yes. You were riding a Specialized bike. I was in Cresta Wheelers kit. Black BMC.
  14. Very tough race. Happy with my time. 3:03. Well done. What kit were you wearing?
  15. I've never done a MTB race. I'm thinking I'll make this my first. I know the park fairly well, and can easily get there to get some practice in.
  16. Nope. Just print your number, or ride without.
  17. What are the requirements to race in vets for this race? I assume you need a CSA racing licence. Any seeding requirement?
  18. While there are some advantages to having a single timing provider, I worry about the negative affects of an outright monopoly. P.S. It is wonderful having a communication channel with someone involved in the running of the race here on thehub. Keep up the good work Gerald!
  19. Yip, but they should be named and shamed to deter others.
  20. Reply received: Will update my mapmyride map asap
  21. There were pins available to take at number collection, but they were separate, not included in the envelope.
  22. I actually have. But it's a very different scenario. 1) The speeds for motorcyclists are much higher than cyclists. 2) Motorcycle helmets are much more effective than bicycle helmets (ignoring the helmets that DH riders use.)
  23. I just did another test. I did not hit my head on the wall. It did not hurt at all. Conclusion - don't hit head on wall.
  24. Yes @ArchedBackChinOut ^^^ you got this one right?
  25. Actually, what I posted has very little to do with sport. It's mostly about commuting & leisure cycling. (Like I said in other posts, if you are doing cycling as sport, then you should be wearing a helmet.) Nothing I've linked to is about a survey where people are interviewed. Where did you get that from??? I you are going to call the evidence I've linked to a "load of rubbish", maybe try read it first. Also, alot of people seem to think: 1) I don't wear a helmet 2) I believe that other people should not wear a helmet. Both of these are not true. Of the time I spend cycling, I wear a helmet 99% of the time. I don't mind if you wear a helmet or not. My issue is with laws requiring helmet use, and campaigns that promote helmets, especially ones that use scare tactics like the one posted earlier in the thread. Don't get me wrong, I am fully aware of the risks of head injury. The most scary thing for me was witnessing paramedics treat a gent who had received a head injury in a pile up in a race bunch (even though he was wearing a helmet.) The problem is that Avg. Joe who maybe wants to buy a bike to cruse around on in the neighbourhood, looks at a campaign like that and decides that cycling (with a helmet or not) is too risky for him.
