  2. Entered. Frosty: any chance you can give us a link to an interactive map, or a gpx file? Nvm. I just mapped it quickly. Strava Ride with GPS
  3. Why do people who think ASG charge to much go to such lengths to let every one else know this is the case? Bad case of FOMO?
  4. Unless you are in one of the licensed cats (Elite, VA etc.) just print you number in a big font with word.
  5. I don't think most clubs even view the support vehicle in this way, rather it's just there to give riders who can't finish the ride for mechanical, or other reasons, a lift back to the start. Case in point, CL have only 1 support vehicle for the 10 or so groups. I agree with the rest of what you say.
  6. It's one of the few roads one can use to get to and from the Cradle, hence used by a number of cyclists, and it has a very high motor traffic volume.
  7. Maybe one of the mods and pin this.
  8. Sorry, what is php? Google is failing me. Paris–Brest–Paris? - No
  9. So Trans Afrika 2017 has been cancelled. So I'm considering do the Munga instead. An issue for me though is I have very little MTB experience, and I've never done a MTB race. Can anyone recommended some MTB races in the Gauteng area that would have similar riding conditions to the Munga, that I can use to judge my ability to do the Munga?
  10. I bought some reflective tape, and sewed it onto existing garments. I'm very happy with the results. I bought the tape from Rob Yyly Trading. http://rwtsa.com/
  11. Oh wow. Sorry did not read the whole thread...
  12. Lol, you guys complaining about the entry fee. I've heard about a MTB race down in the Cape. Apparently the entry fee for that is quite Epic...
  13. Surly you won't get an official time without an entry. I don't think they are that useless.
  14. Here you go
  15. With a EL start, I'm going to have to be doing this.
  16. I'm doing this just for seeding. The only other races I've done in the last 12 months have been riding with a slow friend, so if I don't do something, my seeding is going to fall. As a bad climber, due to being a fatty, I get much better seeding indexes from flat races, hence this race.
  17. Any idea where these can be bought in SA?
  18. Nope - even on the gravel.
  19. So yes, you could just buy a MTB, and put narrower tires and drop bars on. Now to do that you have to change the shifters. Shifters are quite and expensive item, so you are going to push the price of final bike up quite a bit. This is why the industry is doing this. There are people want a bike with suspension, medium width tires, but with drop bars, who don't want to build the bike themselves. They want to buy a bike in the configuration that they are going to ride it, and not have to fiddle changing components. The industry is catering for these people. (Admission time: I own a gravel bike.)
  20. Also saw them in the Cradle.
  21. When I started (NN) there were marshals at the entrance to the start pens checking riders race numbers, ensuring that riders were not entering too early. Was this the case for the very early groups? I'm guessing one of the big challenges for the organisers is communicating to all the marshals where they need to be and what they need to be doing. Curiosity question, maybe Rob can answer. What percent of the crew/marshals are paid vs volunteers?
  22. Sounds like a bonk (aka blood sugar low.) How much and how often did you eat/drink carbohydrates?
  23. Well done on the time! Your race time is from group start time to finish mat time, not start mat to finish mat. The start mats are only used to determine what group you started in. If you start mid to back of the group, you will have a slower time. While this system makes sense for the guys racing for prizes (Elites, Vets, etc.), it's counter productive for the alphabet soup, as it encourages people to push in at the front of the group at the start.
  24. **** you to the lady who switched my friend going up Ceder road and road away. (TIL my friend is a tough cookie. Her first ride and she get's taken out, grazes down the side of her leg hip and arm. Before I could say humpty dumpty, she had poped a Myprodol, and was back on the bike.) </rant> Very well done to the organisers! Small things make a big difference. The display board a the start of the pens to indicate what group was loading made the start far less stressful. </rave>
  25. Upload to youtube in a high resolution, and it will be made available in multiple resolutions to viewers.
