  1. Does Canyon allow any customisation of their builds? i.e. changing wheels, bars, etc.?
  2. What frame only options for under R20k are available locally these days? So far I've found the niner rlt.
  3. Not convinced, here's a reply I got from CRC after explaining to them that the component wasn't available locally: We have a great relationship with SRAM who provide us with a great range of products. We have agreed with them that we will not sell their products outside of the EU. SRAM would be happy to point you in the direction of a local dealer to supply you with this product. https://www.sram.com/contact Sorry for any inconvenience caused and being unable to help on this occasion. Hopefully we will be able to help you out again in the future.
  4. Also, this still works: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/164777-new-sram-purchase-from-crc/ I know because I landed a 1x derailleur last week after getting frustrated with the local retailers who were completely unable to assist.
  5. I enquired 2 weeks ago regarding the 1x SRAM road components available in ZA. Only the Force 1 is available locally at some super premium prices. If you want Rival or Apex you're basically stuck jumping through hoops to import them yourself due to the distributor restrictions in place. VERY consumer unfriendly. The only mtb bits that might be in the groupset is the cassette/chain. This is fine as they have the same spacing. The 11sp mtb cassettes will however fit on a 10sp freehub; shimano/sunrace/etc. cassettes can also be used. SRAM 1x11sp mtb (x-actuation) and road (exact-actuation) derailleurs have different pull ratios, so they're not compatible.
  6. You should be able to if you can access all the bolts/screws. There's 1 on top and 4 on the bottom. There's another screw internally if you have a bar mount and want to separate the top cover from that. Personally I just pulled the cable out and took the entire thing off the bars. Much easier working on it like that.
  7. As said already said, you don't need to take the shifter apart, just take the cover off and apply grease where needed. I did this recently, and it's vastly improved my shifter feel. I found that the grease had migrated away from a lot of the metal contact points so there was no lubrication on parts like the ratchet and the levers.
  8. Launch special is R4500 if that counts. Bicycle stuff isn't cheap in ZA.
  9. Getting the right sock is pretty important to me. I get hotfoot with my most expensive pair; Assos, I hate them. Versus appear to keep changing their material/cut, I have multiple pairs and none of them fit the same. Toe seams irritate the hell out of me. #firstworldproblems #tactilehypersensitivity

I have a set of washers if anyone wants to make their saints worse .

I'm fully adjusted to riding with flats now and loving the saints. Saved myself from a few offs by just sticking a foot out. Shins and calves are still surprisingly scar free, and I've never felt like I was going to slip off the pedals at any point. Still struggling with constant pedal strikes though; one of which caused the trauma mentioned earlier in this thread. Rock gardens I could previously ride on my anthem I can't even look at with the evil.
  12. My #DURO 29er has a diagonal shock running up the downtube. Should I just throw it away now?

    Flat pedals

I would, but I managed to injure myself pretty badly so I've barely had a chance to use them. Managed to get into a tripod with the end of my handlebar. The result: some torn core muscles, and a bunch of internal bleeding. The fluid buildup is causing issues right now (muscle spasms, nerve pressure, etc.), so all strenuous activities have been halted until further notice . I also have a new appreciation of how much your core gets used! I'll definitely be dedicating a lot of time to core exercises when I'm healed. Initial impressions are as follows: They're pretty comfortable as far as cycling shoes go, though with the winter chill setting in, I found the uppers let in a lot of air. My feet were cold, so I still need to figure out what to do there. I haven't yet had a single instance where my foot slipped on the pedal, and due to the tread pattern I noticed I have to lift my foot to reposition. The soles do have a fair amount of give when putting your weight on them and bend pretty readily at the ball of your foot, so don't expect carbon disco slipper like pedaling efficiency. This will likely aid with feeling connected to the bike. My only issue thus far is I found my foot slipping forward in them quite often, so I need to play around with lace tension to see if I can stop that, otherwise I'm going to be dealing with sore toes. I should also point out, the sole isn't completely flat; it has an upward curve from the ball to the toe. I don't know yet if this is an issue. For what I paid, I'd def buy them again. As always, take the above FWIW, as I don't have experience with the other local competitors: 5-10 & 2FO.
  14. Your best bet is to just check the manufacturers' sites for tyre profile diagrams. Though the ID of the rim also plays a role in this, so it might not be accurate for your specific rims. How much clearance do you have? The CX tyre selection is rather small in ZA and pretty much everything available has been used by someone in this thread. Maybe some people in this thread will be nice enough to measure theirs if you have a specific tyre in mind.

I'll probably do that, I find the laces a touch short anyways. Only the very ends reach the strap bungee for me, so they'll probably come loose while cycling.

Unfortunately it is jet black, the little bit of grey there is, is on the side of the soles. Take a look at my previous pic, it's the same colour as my tyres . I suppose from Adidas perspective it's the safe choice in terms of sales. I was also hoping for other colour choices, particularly the blue/black/white one.

Due to lack of sunlight, crappy quality photos were had:

Yip, all the spacers are off. I can't wait to get some nice track marks on my legs.

Pedals installed, shoes fit great. Now to finish setting up the bike and go for a ride.
  20. I guess this thread is the reason why I can't seem to find stock of any colour combo I could live with on the website.

    Flat pedals

Due to lack of stock of five-tens in my size, and the Spaz not feeling right and just too stiff for my liking, I just ordered these as Adidas generally fit me pretty well: https://shop.adidas.co.za/terrex-trail-cross-sl-shoes-122607.html Signed up for the newsletter and used the 15% discount code. R1360 isn't too bad for a pair of cycling shoes.

    Too bad they're not the AM41 .
