  1. I still would love to know what your issue is with Magicshine's? Don't think you've ever clarified it... Before hubbers take their speculation too far, why don't we wait and hear what the manufacturer has to say. I personally haven't heard of any of the hundreds of Magicshine lights in SA having any battery issues which would be considered dangerous so I don't know what issues Geoman have encountered with theirs. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more happy Magicshine owners in SA than any other bike light and they've only been around for about a year. Yes, the handlebar mount isn't as solid as some other models, but if that's the only issue you have for a third of the price of its competitors then I think it's still an extremely good deal. I will let you know once I hear anything further or else someone could contact Bradjackson on the hub and ask if he has any more information available. Out of interest, how long do you think a battery should reasonably last? A 24 hour event is an extreme event and would generally require considerably more equipment to complete so I don't think that is something to hold against a standard light (add the spare battery and it's still half the price of any other light!).
  2. I have just sent an e-mail to the manufacturer about this so hopefully will be able to give some more meaningful feedback soon!
  3. That's very unusual, my last order was 2 packages, but got 2 seperate tracking numbers...
  4. My bike ended up as one of those bikes being sold from someone's house (luckily another hubber saw it before it was fully dismantled - after 2 hours, it was already on its way to being a heap of parts). No point in telling the police, this guy was found with 4 stolen bikes (coincidentally the other 3 were only frames by the time they were found) and the police thanked him for being so helpful and nice to them! They thought I was ridiculous when I pointed out he was dealing in stolen goods and couldn't be as innocent/stupid as he acted (the bike I'm busy parting out for R9k+, he apparently took as a R3k trade in on a worse bike?!?!?)! Now he is still happily operating a used bike shop (presumably just being more careful about not getting caught!).
  5. My orders from CRC always get delivered to my door in CT, no waiting for slips. Normally 2 to 3 day from it landing in JHB so expect Monday or Tuesday and be very happy if you get it tomorrow. Does the tracking say it's been forwarded to delivery depot yet? Normally 2 days from then (1 day to CT and delivered the following day).
  6. Alternatively, just ignore all the sales that don't included the 'required' information and it won't stress you out? You don't need 10 ppl who aren't remotely interested in an ad asking for pics and never looking at the ad again. If you are interested, PM the guy and I am sure he will give you all the info you need... Sometimes I'm sitting at work, get a brainwave that I need to get rid of something, and quickly post an ad (without pics )... If someone contacts me and is interested, I will send them more info as soon as I have a chance. If someone's price is too high then politely explain that it is too high and why - preferably without spending hours tracking down a bike shop having a sale on that product in South-Eastern Russia and posting a link to it!
  7. To be honest, I can't beat that price on the 816 (I can't support a warranty if I did!) so buy that from them I reckon (assuming they do offer some kind of warranty backup). I can and do match their 808 price at R850 though and offer the helmet mount and extension cables at R25 each.
  8. For Burry and Minnaar's sakes (I think they are the most successful in their respective disciplines of all SA riders), I hope they make a lot more than R600k a year... People like Armstrong/Schleck/Contador probably make that in a month from their basic salary alone and Burry and Minnaar are riding at the same level as those guys. I have no idea, but they deserve it.
  9. I feel the exact opposite. The seedings should be updated weekly straight after the races. My main problem is that you need to wait more than a month to move up so basically in the summer season where seedings are the most lenient, you only really have 1 chance to move up groups during the season. If you could jump groups weekly as your seeding improves, you should get faster and faster times throughout the season and hopefully end up in the group equivalent to your strength. The seedings generally seem to be fairly reasonable: unless you cycle off the front of your group and make 5+ mins over them, is it reasonable to believe you should jump 3 or 4 groups? It should be very difficult to make up more than 1 or 2 groups in a seeding run, but if you can move groups 2 or 3 times a month, you will have more and more opportunity to prove your strength and climb the seedings. On the One Tonner side, the top H group rides have a B seeding index from the race still after the adjustment, I think it's pretty reasonable to say that the adjustment was fair and maybe even a bit skewed towards the riders. I failed miserably and lost 24 mins in the last 28km's over the guys I was riding with and still achieved my seeded index (F). And it should not cost you more than the price of printing the number (R5 maybe???) to get reseeded. The person who does it and the computer they use are fixed costs and not influenced by the riders reseeding!
  10. I'm confused! I can see it clearly in the pics... The MTB even has a piece of wood on top of the glass coz it wasn't high enough!
  11. He has to spend a much longer time on that saddle than any of the pro's do so he is more deserving of comfy shorts! I'm on about 7:1 including both my bikes I guess (all this does is give me another way to justify spending money on my bikes!)...
  12. I fear you are right about the grips now I look at the pics! I ride with them and hadn't even noticed! Feel like a bit of a chop now... Will cost about the same for a set of Edge/Enve Composites wheels as one of these bikes complete! Recently heard a set of their 29er wheels will set you back more than R15k! Unfortunately no 29er's at this stage. Cycleshark: If you concentrate really hard on balancing it upright, the pressure of the grass on the tyres will keep them upright. If that doesn't work, put a glass or something under the crankarm, works just as well! They'll organise a 29er, but I would need a big enough order first. I would assume they would then be supplying a rebranded factory 'blank' frame whereas these frames are designed by them (and the design used by certain other brands albeit with differing qualities of carbon used). This is why I haven't pursued it at this stage as I'd rather wait until they design a suitable frame. If anyone is interested in the MTB wheels, they weigh in at 1670g and are handling my 85kg's with ease and would sell for approximately R2700. I don't currently have any stock, but if there is some interest, I can organise a few sets.
  13. I can sell you 1260g alu wheels (Edge SLR200 with Sapim CX-Ray spokes) for R4,500! Can't beat the weight or price... Otherwise, the Eastons are meant to be ultra reliable, but I wasn't a big fan of the hubs, just didn't seem as smooth as everyone makes out (maybe I'm just fussy coz it doesn't make sense given the great reviews everyone gives them).
  14. If you work one out, let me know! Also keen to do that ride, but really don't think there's a decent way to get to the coast road... It's only really N2 or the road from Muizenberg (which I really wouldn't do on my bike).
  15. Forgot a disclaimer, this post is only in reference to the claims mentioned and is not a general comment!!!
  16. I decided to start a new forum due to my personal dislike with trashing someone's classified ad's, but feel the need to clarify things about these lights after seeing Bradjackson's comments and having people questioning me because of them (his comments were not directed at anyone specific, but I am assuming are aimed at people like myself) about his disliking people importing 'clones' of the Magiclights. Firstly, to clarify, 'Magiclight' is Brad's brand name for Magicshine lights (as can be seen from the actual branding on the lights and packaging). A quick search shows no-one else on the Hub has used the term 'Magiclight' in an advert on here so I don't understand the comments that people are advertising fake Magiclights. Everybody has marketed these under the name Magicshine. The Magicshines which I sell (and others have in the past) are the exact same lights as the ones marketed as Magiclight and are not fakes of anything, but sold under the actual name printed on the product rather than a seperate brand name (this would inherently make Magiclight a clone of Magicshine in essence). This also explains the claims of being the exclusive 'Magiclight' agent in SA (anyone else would be a 'Magicshine' agent). I am not trying to cause a fight or unpleasant debate here, but feel the need to clarify things to prevent any confusion arising from the comments made on the hub in order to defend myself and my customers. ...runs off to fetch his popcorn
  17. I see my phone started 2 topics, sorry about that, let's stick with this one! BeOne, you're basically saying they're both good and I should choose one of them right?! Leaning towards the Antares, but for absolutely no specific reason. Feltrider: you and the ginger both seem to like it, but it just seems to catch the back of my legs a bit and really struggle with anything over 100km's (it's awesome until then tho!). Was really sore yesterday so worried about the idea of 200km+!
  18. I'm looking at trying one these saddles as my current saddle isn't working for me. Any feedback on them? Looking at rides between 3 and 7 hrs so needs to be comfortable.

  20. Campy doesn't break so who cares what the spares cost Only a Shi(*)mano rider would know the price of Campy spares! I have just changed from Campy to SRAM and really missing it (and yet my friends who went from Shimano to SRAM love it!)
  21. And if that doesn't work, blame PPA!
  22. My only major gripe with PPA is that their excuse for everything they do (and their ridiculous fees/race entries) is that it's for developing cycling in SA, what about giving something to the members who pay the fees? I have now completed 10 consecutive Argus's (and thus been a PPA member for over 10 years) and genuinely feel I have never received anything other than a hole in my wallet from the PPA. In running, a club organises a run for all entrants who pay the entry fee, this qualifies them to run on the same grounds as everyone else. You do not get prejudiced against for not being their member (and temp numbers are cheap, literally the additional cost they incur for you). Funrides should be organised for the cyclists participating in them, with an occasional fundraising event (like the Argus). There are a lot of people who don't have R100+ a week to give to charity. Anyways, this is all a waste of energy. They have gotten their monopoly on cycling, and until someone else puts up the money to set up competition for them, they will keep pushing up entry fees (someone please find a big corporate sponsor for a new series of races!)
  23. Don't even need to post the ad! It's a white fork and wants to be sold... Sorted just like that! Just send me your details and we can sort it out right now!
  24. I think you should buy my Sid World Cup fork with 205mm steerer for R3k and then we're all happy! (Not so undercover advertising going on here!)
