  1. I know this post has been left to lie for a while, but I'm glad to see people using some logic and not just accepting the response... Maybe a good old fashioned newspaper article will get the police more interested and some more public interest in this shop? I'll try and find names of people to forward links to this post to and lets try put some pressure on...
  2. Hopefully to clarify 1 point in debate, Wikipedia reckons it is a freeway and thus illegal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M5_road_(Cape_Town) Anyone on the hub who both cycles and drives knows that there are some absolute idiots that ride bikes (and even as cyclists, we are allowed to admit this!). It doesn't mean we are all idiots, but some just are (many drivers too - like the guy that jumped a red robot in front of me this morning which resulted in a few choice words which were not nearly as polite as the opening post!). This is just a fact of life and hopefully if they read something like this post they will get a wake up call and see they could have had their cycling careers/lives cut very short through their ignorance and will think twice about doing it again.
  3. ...
  4. I am also merely stating facts below, I am not accusing anyone of anything beyond the facts:- I've tried to post a few warnings about the shop on the hub along the way... I can confirm that back in 2009 when my bike was found at his house 2 hours after it was stolen, the police were aware of at least 4 stolen bikes found with him. They would not press charges as they reckoned he was a nice guy Somehow the thieves knew where to find him to pawn off the bikes (he never advertised that he bought bikes publically from what I could tell yet always had lots of stock). After that, he moved into the shop in Wynberg where it is my understanding that the police in the area use it as a first stop whenever a bike gets stolen (seems to indicate they expect them to end up there for whatever reason). I have watched the gumtree ads for years. You will never see an original spec bike advertised and the descriptions will often differ from the actual spec of the bike (a large advertised as a medium etc.). Further to this, for 3 of the 4 stolen bikes I know of, he was only found with the frame (denied receiving any other components with them). My bike was found within 2 hours of being stolen and the pedals were gone, the bolts on the brakes had been loosened and a few new cable ties had been added as if the cables were reattached to the bike before I collected it - appeared as if it was in the process being stripped when it was noticed by another hubber. I found a stolen bike with him which he advertised on gumtree (actually was advertised as stolen on the hub by the same person who found my bike - a friend of Neil's). It was advertised as being a different size to what it was so he didn't think it was his bike until he actually went there and saw it and it turned out to be the same. That is a bit of background of my knowledge of Neilswheels and I am sure there are massive gaps which I am not aware of or bikes which had been sold before being found. I have no proof it is done intentionally and not purely by stupidity/ignorance, but I have felt the need to keep an eye on the ads and to warn people about it in private whenever they have a bike stolen in cape town.
  5. Now known as ENVE and not EDGE any longer due to the Taiwanese based Edge brand... just putting it out there to save any confusion.
  6. Sent u a PM to clarify my question... welcome to reply in private or on here, I won't mention anything (just like to keep my knowledge up to date).
  7. What shop?
  8. Depending on the fitness level, I am very keen to join in... I live very close to there so can cycle down to Steenberg. I don't mind if it's a slightly slower ride, but don't want to hold anyone up. How far do you normally ride?
  9. If you do get it going, I would definitely be keen depending on what day of the week... I'm not the best MTB'er technically, but am fairly fit still I like to think. I know the place is somewhere in Tokai to get the permits, but not sure where exactly (think it's in Westlake business park, but may be wrong).
  10. I might be wrong, but aren't the top end Treks around R60k? This would then be competition for the Italian premium bikes on price as well (and I would probably take the Spesh personally if I was in that market).
  11. And which part of my post was so illogical? I asked a question followed by my assumption and concluded by clarifying that it was an assumption based on my knowledge and that I do not know every loophole in the law which he might be able to use to his benefit so that no-one might perceive me to be an expert which you obviously are... Why is it defamation? Are you implying that he looks ugly in the picture? If a newspaper posts a picture of you, is that defamation of character?
  12. Finally something meaningful, thank you! I think you'd battle to win on those grounds against an equally good lawyer, but happy to see some actual facts being quoted... Always interesting to see an actual interpretation of how the law could be applied in circumstances like this rather than people like me making semi-educated guesses!
  13. I see how you got to your name... Don't be childish and post meaningless statements with absolutely no purpose other than to cause k&k. If you have something insightful and/or meaningful to add, please edit your post to explain why what I said was wrong.
  14. What grounds? No-one has accused him of anything? And if it's illegal to post the pic of him, then all those semi-clothed females that pop up on these forums quite regularly should be making millions off suing everyone around the world! (Disclaimer: I don't know the actual law, but logic IMO says unless you are actually being defamatory about the guy then it's all above board, albeit a little unethical)... As someone has mentioned, it is illegal to buy stolen goods so it would be up to him to justify that he wasn't aware of it or had no reason to believe it was stolen (assuming it can be proven that it is actually the OP's bike which might be difficult without serial numbers).
  15. I wonder what their take is on all the rebranded wheels floating around in the market? Glad to see the Edge wheels are on there (even though i knew this before, can't miss the opportunity! )
  16. I got a lift to Noordhoek to meet up with my girlfriend for the last 30km's (I refused to push her or let her draft me as I was purely there for moral support and she is very competitive - even if it's just for her own personal best time!)... She is very scared of high speed on her road bike and thus ends up losing a lot of time on downhills and the faster flats, but climbs better than the vast majority of people in the lower groups (did 4:31 without going over about 35kph at all). I was quite disappointed to see how the other riders take up the entire road without a care in the world and she had to continually ask people to move out of the way thus never being able to maintain a rhythm on the hills (and she was there perfectly legitimately). I didn't mind waiting when she passed someone as I could pass when another gap appeared and catch up, but for her it was very frustrating. So, although I agree with the initial rant, I also think there should be marshals encouraging riders to keep left unless they're passing which would eliminate the problem for people who are passing legitimately (or for any other reason). Being out there and not racing also meant I could turn back on my way into Camps Bay to check on a rider who was lying next to the road (turned out he was just cramping badly so gave him my GU sweets and left him to it).
  17. You were next to the road, don't think anyone is responsible for maintaining every piece of land you might possibly consider cycling on... Unfortunately count it as very bad luck and go a bit slower when it's the first time you're on a route so you can see where the obstacles are (my opinion only, people get claims through for incredible things so you might have a chance if you want to go that route). Insurance (both medical and bike) would be a good starting point for your claim though.
  18. Send it with SAPO... Will cost about R50 and I have never had a problem with them. You get a tracking number and all. Add insurance if you want to when you send it (2% of the insured value), but I don't bother. Courier's are about R250+
  19. Wow, what a response... The OP had a genuinely bad experience, it doesn't sound like he is making stuff up just to flame CWC. Give the guy a break. He has justified why the bike could not go back to them and also clearly explained his gripes with the service he received. He hasn't said CWC is terrible, don't use them, just that he had a bad experience (he also seems to have clearly stated that this might be a very isolated case). Why are his comments not fair, but someone who doesn't have their call returned from another shop is justified in saying how terrible that shops is? When you're in a service/retail industry dealing directly with the consumer, you don't often get second chances to prove yourself. If I go to a shop and they don't perform to my expectations then I will be irritated and probably not go back there. If I get great service 10 times and they slip up on the eleventh then I will be a lot more understanding (which is the view all of you guys are taking on it). Rather try defend them by saying that you have never had a bad experience there than try to put him down for posting about his bad experience... Let other hubbers decide for themselves from that. I know CWC has had great exposure on here and therefore I would happily use them, but now I know if I ever buy a bike from them (or any other shop), I must take the time to ensure it is set up correctly before leaving with it.
  20. I didn't directly ask if the wheels were usable or cracked as I think that is fairly implicit in an advert for a set of bicycle wheels that they are in a usable condition unless otherwise mentioned. Nope, neither of us mentioned voetstoots at any stage... That is unfortunately the biggest problem here, the time delay... It's going to make things a bit more difficult even though it shouldn't effect it in reality. If you look at each issue in isolation then you could probably justify her defence, when you lump them all together I think it makes for a much stronger case that the wheels were faulty and she misrepresented the condition and details completely. Looking more and more like a lawyer is going to be the best option here for me.
  21. Just to clarify, this is the picture I was meant to have seen the crack in (it also happens to be the wrong side of the wheel, but you couldn't really tell that from the pic!).
  22. That would be my assumption as well, but then add that the E320 does not run which takes it to an entire different level!
  23. No lawyers yet! Will let you know once I have some genuinely useful, factual information at I think a lot of hubbers should know their rights with regards to the transactions done on here. For everyone: Please understand, I am not accusing her of knowing about the crack and selling the wheels (it is a very small crack which neither myself nor the guy I sold them to notice on first inspection). That would be a criminal case probably if that were the case (that must count as fraud to knowingly sell faulty goods and make blatantly make false representations regarding their condition). I am assuming it was accidental and unintentional (except for the bearings which she was aware of and didn't communicate and presumably the age/model of the wheels).
  24. She has confessed to knowing the bearings in the rear wheel were shot and I have it in writing that she claimed them to be much more recent models than they actually are... Other than that I suppose I have people who can vouch for the fact that they were stored in a safe environment at the back of a room in a box from when I received them and that they were not used at all.
