  1. If you really have 7900 on it then rather break it up, you won't get a reasonable value where the parts are that unmatched.
  2. Thanks for editing my earlier post, hope my last one shows that I'm not jumping to conclusions here, it's something I've spent many months/years monitoring to draw the conclusions I have...
  3. If it's only 3 it would still be a reasonable debate... When I got mine back from him after a hubber saw it, the police mentioned 2 other bikes found with him earlier that year. Then the hubber that found mine there had his stolen bike end up with Neil (after asking him to look out for it he saw Neil had advertised it on Gumtree). Then there is the guy who found his 2 stolen bikes in the alley behind Neil's shop after Neil denied having them. Then the Giant VT that disappeared before the police recovered it after Neil had been told it was stolen and that he must keep it. Then this GT that started this thread... That's at least 8 that I can remember offhand. I also saw someone mention a Giant DH that Neil sold which was stolen and I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting... Those are only the ones I know of that have been recovered from him! 9 bikes minimum!!!
  4. , you can't post your customers contact details on internet, I would be seriously pissed off if I was him. Why do you only reply to the one thing which was already established to just be a hubber jumping to conclusions (i.e. that every bike you sell is stolen). What about the other allegations against you which are justified? For any of the stolen bikes recovered from you, did you have the information you are required to have with respect to the person you purchased it from? I'm guessing not... Quite a coincidence! When you were running your shop from your garage, how did people know where to find you to sell bikes to you? I know you advertised on gumtree the bikes for sale, but I never saw anything saying you were looking for bikes... Either you are incredibly ... and naive or you know exactly what is going on in your store (previously your garage), why can we all see which bikes are dodgy and/or stolen yet you can't when you deal with them every day? My guess is the latter or you would be a lot more co-operative and a lot more concerned about what people were saying about you... Mod edit: I deleted a few things. Play nice and reserve judgement.
  5. I never said he was the brightest pea in the pod, just that he can't be THAT stupid... I've lost count, but think it's now more than 10 he's been caught with!
  6. That makes sense, even Neal can't be stupid enough to advertise a stolen bike with the owners name in the picture. If it was stolen, it would have 8 speed gruppo, RS10 wheels and road bars on it!
  7. In Neil's defense, at least his mechanic has learnt how to assemble bikes now! Back when he operated out of his garage, they inevitably had most parts upside down or back to front in the adverts (my bike was found before he had a chance to strip it - although the brakes were already loose and the pedals were gone - but I was fortunate enough that he put on a few extra cable ties and changed my cable routing before returning it which I appreciated! )
  8. One of these was posted as being stolen a while back... Sent the previous owner a link, but never heard anything back from them. Wasn't enough detail in the stolen ad to tell if it's the same frame or not.
  9. Asked him a while ago about that bike and his was apparently a road bike, not tri.
  10. Can we not arrange some kind of protest outside his shop (I don't know the legal aspects of this, but do something in a legal way!)? He is blatantly dealing in stolen goods and can not claim ignorance after the number of similar incidents. The alternative is that anyone with a bike which was recovered through him (including myself) goes and lays seperate criminal charges against him and makes sure the cops follow through with it?
  11. I think bike prices have dropped hugely in a lot of brands over the last year or two so relative to what they paid it might be reasonable, but compared to current prices it's very high... I was quoted R21k for a Merida HFS1000 about 2 years ago, the equivalent specced bike which is probably the Matts Lite 3000 is now R15k. Someone with a spotless HFS1000 would be justified in thinking R15k was a reasonable price if they didn't know the replacement cost now. You can always offer what you think something is worth and explain why to the seller and maybe they agree?
  12. And 1 more for the record books, so far I know of:- My bike The 2 bikes before mine (confirmed by the cop involved in my case) The Raleigh after mine (which I found for another hubber and Neil had been asked to look out for) Another hubbers Giant recently found there which Neil got rid of before the owner could recover it 2 Other bikes I've heard of which Neil denied having and were then found in the alley behind the shop (unconfirmed) Now this Giant DH in the above post I hope that's enough evidence for the person defending him that you should at least exercise caution (I am sure there are many cases I don't know of, but that's what I've come across).
  13. Just to clarify, the conclusion on the website referred to has more background to it than what you are aware of and thus is a meaningless marketing document (I would assume the OP's post also has some background to it, but in that case, I am not aware of anything specific). I sell all 3 of the lights in question and there is absolutely no question that the 870 and 872 are more powerful. The only complaint with the 808E that I have received is that the beam is focused and some riders would prefer more peripheral vision (primarily for technical MTBing). All of the lights in question are perfectly suitable for any form of cycling and I think the pictures show a great comparison of why the MJ870 and MJ872 are possibly more suitable for MTBing than the MJ808E (not to put the power of the MJ808E down in any way). When you cycle at night, how concerned are you really about what is 100 metres in front of you? In your last comparative picture, the main spot appears to be significantly brighter (at any point) and much wider than the MJ808E? Surely that picture alone shows the difference in them (and not in a negative manner?) The MJ870 and 872 also offer easier and more variability in the lighting levels which allow you to conserve battery life much easier than with the MJ808E. As someone else mentioned, the switch on the MJ870 and MJ872 is also an improvement as you no longer have to cycle through all the modes of the light to reach the desired mode. As I mentioned, you have very clearly gone out to prove a point for whatever reason and have taken an extremely biased view while proving very little. For someone who deals in the brand, I am very surprised at your post. There may be room for an improvement in the new lights with a different lens, but this doesn't detract from how good they already are.
  14. Got to do it at least twice for charity (preferably do the second trip on a unicycle)! Once is just a tough training ride
  15. Probably find the police got there before you did... Sometimes it's better if the deal does fall through.
  16. I have spare o-rings available at R10 a set if anyone needs... Still looking for reasonably priced solid mounts (the idea of spending R250+ on a piece of plastic is crazy to me). I had some at R70 each, but they were discontinued before I got in a reasonable stock of them unfortunately - hoping to get more of these at some point in the near future (please don't PM me, will advertise when/if I get them again!).
  17. That looks like it says Paris on it, but not completely sure... If it is then they were retailing for +-R20k when I looked at them. Being an older model, it's more about what it's worth to you, but not more than R10k IMO.
  18. Then you obviously haven't seen the Magicshine! It's 80 lumens worth of light... You will never be missed. The only prob is the price - I sell them for R480, but that does include the same Li-Ion battery you get with the MJ808 which is worth R350+ alone and you can run both front + rear lights off 1 battery as well if you prefer. They're basically really good value for money for what you get, but people don't like spending money on rear lights (I saw a guy on Constantia Nek the other evening in the dark with an MJ808 on the front and absolutely nothing on the back -I noticed him as I swerved to miss driving into the back of him!)
  19. Just find a box for it so you have the dimensions and the total weight and then phone around for quotes... They won't give away anything without those details. The price is more likely to be based on the size than the actual weight so you can estimate the weight.
  20. I sent a roadbike to JHB from CT for R350 odd with DCB logistics. Cycle Lab packed it safely in a box for me at no charge and DCB did a door to door delivery. Every other quote I got was R800+...
  21. On a similar topic, how much will it cost for a 42 chain ring for X0? I also have 26/39 and really need the 42...
  22. Scam... Anyone selling big brand names at giveaway prices are scams (otherwise don't you think someone would have done it long before you?)
  23. AdS,nice to see a review on the new lights... As he mentioned, apart from the increased lighting power, the new models have seperate switches to change up or down power settings so you no longer have to switch through all the modes to change from low to high (including switching the light off). The battery life is shorter than the old lights(about 2h30 on full power), but there is now a standard option of the long life battery which increases the capacity by 50%.
  24. And the DH riders who walk up the tracks pushing their bikes (presumably because they aren't able to ride them up there, not because they don't want to)? Is it not exactly the same thing? I do agree there is a danger factor to it and thus it is not the most intelligent thing to ride up the tracks in certain areas where there are fast, blind corners, but I don't think you are in a position to lay claim to any land in tokai forest as your exclusive place to be and I can't see any specific rules that provide for your claims so it's probably not best to go around calling people names, but rather try a constructive, intelligent discussion and take the time yourself to discuss it with whomever might be able to make rules or put up warning signs on the dangerous areas. Just a suggestion...
