  1. Will probably be available on the classifieds in "as new" condition soon! Very lucky guy!
  2. This sounds like the Double Century... they now have tea breaks in the middle of the "race"
  3. The CTCT has previously not been completed because of heat, wind, fire, Covid-19 and now you want it moved because it happened to rain on a similar day to when the race might have been had it not already been cancelled? It might be easier to just not hold it at all if you want to look for reasons that a date isn't suitable. March is probably the best chance you have of avoiding heat, wind, rain etc in Cape Town but the organisers have no control beyond hope and luck. Just out of interest - what alternative date would you like? Let's see if we can find a good reason why you're wrong.
  4. WTB Kom Tough I29 is the first rim I haven't been able to damage (badly) yet. They also look really good IMO. I've heard very good things about the DT Swiss rims but I seem to remember they come at a premium price (there wasn't any stock when I got the WTB's built last year). As far as the discussion is concerned, both will work but I suspect 30mm might just be that little bit too wide for your intentions so I'd go with 25mm personally for XC use if those are the only options. ...and the OP resolved his dilemma while I typed this
  5. Some brands offer crash replacement discounts so check the brand of helmet you use and see. It might make the decision even easier.
  6. I know but surely there must be one bike left out there!
  7. Where are the wholesalers/retailers in all of this? Surely there is someone with a small 29er looking for a home that they can pass on at cost. The PR value will be huge and it shouldn't cost a cent - I'm sure we can get News24 to write a feel good article about it.
  8. I know you're joking but I'd suggest looking at a cheaper bike with insurance... No point in a fancy bike that might make him a target and could disappear again. Even if he uses the money he was putting towards the debt to pay for the insurance.
  9. Now to make sure the bike shop does their bit and passes everything on at their cost
  10. Thanks for running with this! Contribution made. I really hope he ends up with a nice new bike. If Linden Cycles have the connections and if there's enough money, maybe they can assist with a year of insurance and maintenance as well. That's just a suggestion if the option is available.
  11. Does anyone know what model Scott that is and what a reasonable replacement would cost? Secondly, does anyone know how to set up some kind of fund raising campaign to help get a replacement? I can't offer to buy a bike but I would like to contribute towards it if there is an option to do so. I'm sure BaGearA would also like to contribute after his/her earlier post...
  12. What size was the bike? The profile appears to have been called NeilsBarnard. There is a person by that name in Randfontein (according to Facebook) - obviously could be pure coincidence but a simple Google search reveals that info. The cache of the ad appears to show the profile had a number of reviews on it - if admin can pull those up it might help get more info.
  13. You're missing something... Someone was attacked and their bike stolen. I'd suggest saving the clever jokes for now. I hope he is OK.
  14. All true... I would only ride on roads I know well in the dark and stick to safer areas (both in terms of security and space/visibility). I guess that cuts out some of the risks you mention and reduced my need for bright lights (I stopped road riding long ago). The south of CPT has very few potholes, the roads are generally fairly quiet early in the morning, and mostly have wide, clear shoulders to ride away from cars and pedestrians. Once again, it comes down to the intended purpose. Most important is to angle your light correctly when on the road. And don't use helmet mounted lights on the road - when you look at the oncoming cyclist/driver you will be blinding them.
  15. Depends on the purpose... For road use a nice narrow 400 lumen beam is more than enough (possibly even that is excessive). For high speed single track in the middle of the night, as wide and as bright as possible (5000 lumens works perfectly if you have the option!)
  16. Your source of information is clearly Advocate Google - be careful of that... If you sell a product to someone then you have an obligation to them - whether that is moral or legal should be irrelevant if you are a half decent person. You don't appear to be interested in the former and that says something about you hence the suggestion you should walk away quietly. In this case the buyer has effectively admitted there were problems with the bike he sold (whether it is the FD, RD or crank or all 3 is once again irrelevant) - as far as I can make out he has NOT rectified those problems. He has claimed he will do so under a very specific set of conditions thus making it as inconvenient as possible for the buyer. Would the buyer "win" if this went to court - I don't know for sure but I think he would as the seller should reasonably have known about the issues identified (length of crank and crack in derailleur). It would however be a painful process for both parties. Is the damage to the seller's reputation worth it - only he can decide. In another post you mention he paid the money into someone else's account and can't even prove who he bought it from. Either I've missed something in this thread or you know more about this transaction than you're letting on...
  17. Why do you apologise for upsetting people and then just keep heading down the rabbit hole? What do Shimano warranties, insurance, Bike Hub Pay etc have to do with anything? Sometimes it's alright to be wrong and to just walk away... At the very least, thanks for the entertainment your "arguments" have brought to this thread. It would have died off days ago if it wasn't for you. Just for some context, what is your interest in all of this?
  18. I take it you just enjoy causing trouble? I don't know either party in this but your posts make no sense at all.
  19. I'm not sure if you're trying to be serious or not? If you sell something cheaply then you can lie about it? Would you check the crank length on a bike the second it arrives? Cracked handle bar? The OP needs to name and shame the person as publicly as possible - the damage to their reputation hopefully does much more damage than fixing the faults would have. If you can afford the legal route then do that just for fun - it will bankrupt the seller very quickly and make him regret his "speak to my lawyer" nonsense.
  20. I recommend these - https://firstbikeafrica.co.za/collections/firstbike-with-brakes My son is on the "fatbike" version and those tyres make such a difference when he leaves the tar. Not the cheapest but we're nearly 1 year in and it still looks like new - will ultimately go to the second when he gets to that stage.
  21. Coincidentally I ordered some this morning and just received notification they have been shipped so should know soon. Just took a chance with ordering them.
  22. I need one if it's in the next few days
  23. Has someone contacted her telephonically? I have to assume she hasn't checked this post given no reply.
  24. I have a SecuriLid with their own racks - https://securi-lid.co.za/product/cari-on-rack-set/ The Thule racks fit on those with a slight modification to the T-bolts to trim off 1mm but that's 15 seconds with a grinder Securilid fitted my racks, trimmed the bolts and lined everything up which made it very easy but I did it myself on my previous bakkie and it's very straightforward.
