  1. I have NO idea why this made me think of you Dips......
  2. Well funny enough, when we applied to become an Omnico products dealer we were told, 'sorry we can't supply you because you work from your own premises and don't pay rent which gives you an unfair advantage'. ie, we could charge less if we wanted. Unfair or good business on their part?
  3. As a 'soutpiel' (according to my club mates, thanks guys) that was a harsh lesson in heat. I think I consumed at least 4 bottles and poured the others over myself having had to stop twice for water. Did anyone else suffer from 'group mirages'? I kept thinking, there's a small group head of me and you try and catch them only to find out that they had mysteriously become a single rider or only a couple of riders.
  4. You wish , haha
  5. Also just got the 'invite' for the 2nd lap. Any sadists out there contemplating it?
  6. In terms of the CPA you are only covered if the seller is selling an item in the "normal course of their business". ie, you are only covered if it is their main source of business. Someone selling something once off, or every now and then is not covered under the Act. When you're buying a single used item you better be prepared for 'voetstoets'.

  8. Loving the look of this route. It'll be nice to get the legs warmed up before we hit Helshoogte, here, wait a minute, nooooooooooooo.lol. This was my favourite race last year. I'm sure it's going to be another blinder.
  9. This was without doubt the most un-fun ride I've ever done. From the very start even the directions as per their email to the start and parking were wrong. The combination of open roads and a cycle race on that route just does not work. Dodging cars doing the same speed as you going down OKW is dangerous and the marshalls at the bottom at the traffic lights were an absolute joke. They might as well not have been there for all the good they did. Riding a race through the likes of Kalk Bay & Fish Hoek was just plain stupid and I'm just happy to still be in one piece with the cars on the main road just having no idea what was happening around them as bunches split and passed them left and right. This was without doubt the most dangerous ride I've done and I wouldn't go back to it. It was a shambles.
  10. WTF is this country coming to. That's crazy. I'm glad they're still alive.
  11. If you're only getting into road biking then do yourself a favour and buy a quality decent 2nd hand bike. With the budget you've indicated you're going to get a full carbon frame and probably at least a full 105 or Ultegra groupset. And if you can wait a month or so there's probably going to be a few sold after the Argus.
  12. That's a completely different argument altogether. The fact remains, if you want a police presence at an event that is over and above their normal duties then you have to pay for it. Do you think international events such as rugby matches, cricket matches etc etc get policed for free? Ummm no. The police have a budget to work with, just like any other business or public department.
  13. Ahh, that's because we sold them all Unfortunately the Randella is going to affect the price next time we bring them in, along with everyone else who imports clothing or materials.
  14. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/59579-tenn-pro-bib-shorts-new/ Read the review from road.cc (the link is in the ad) If we have your size left then you'll find it hard to beat these.
  15. As an ex UK police officer I'll give you some input from the other side of the fence, because although the country is different the principle is exactly the same. Please explain why you think that it's okay for a police officer to be forced to change from his normal shift pattern which may include weekend rest days, or annual leave, or being forced to swop from a shift such as lates, or nights to earlies just so we can go out on Saturday or Sunday morning and pedal our bikes around the roads for a few hours. In fact, I have a great idea, let's also change their shifts to cater for marathon runners, fun runners, motorcycle club rides, and any other Tom, Dick or Harry who wants to use the roads for something When a police officer gets dragged away from what they are supposed to be doing it means that there are fewer resources to target potentially far more serious issues. That's why events like this have to pay to have the officers available as this is in addition to their normal duties. With the carnage on our roads, I'll happily pay to have them there so I know that I can race safely and finish in one piece.
  16. Hijack - If you want good quality cycling clothes and other bits, I don't think you'll find much better priced than us. http://www.sportsworld.co.za/
  17. I think everyone is going to find cycling getting more expensive judging by the current exchange rates. The good old Randela has just collapsed to R11 to $1 and R18.28 to 1GBP. It's going to affect prices on all imported cycling goods pretty quickly. However to get back to the topic, as I said to my missus the other day, I don't smoke, I don't drink much, I've been driving the same car for 7 years, I don't buy flashy designer clothes or the latest gadgets, so I'm happy to spend my money on a past-time that gives me so much joy.
  18. A complete bike is 15% Duty and also 14% VAT. You might be better to break it up beforehand depending on the shipping cost of the frame etc and the wheels etc seperate.
  19. It was just so obvious that the car was turning. It was positioned to go left, it was indicating to turn left and yet this guy thought he could just sail up the inside and go straight. It's amazing how liitle thought people put into keeping themselves alive sometimes.
  20. To the idiot on a mountain bike this morning at about 9.20am coming from Sunningdale, heading straight over the traffic circle at Sandown Road beside the Engen garage/ West Coast Village. You were so lucky that the car you undertook at the roundabout which was clearly indicating to turn left, actually saw you undertaking and managed to stop turning left in time, otherwise you were history. It's idiots like you that give us cyclists a bad name. What you did was not only dangerous to yourself but to other road users.
  21. I don't think the gravel section is going to be the problem..... Malans, then Visserhok, then Odendaal will sort things out. Luckily my wifes on a course that weekend and I feel terrible that I have to miss this one
  22. A German bicycle from WW1 made by Opel. Due to the lack of rubber because of the war, note how they put springs into the wheels instead, to act as 'cushioning'. I still think it would be a bone shaker
  23. Some shameless advertising http://www.sportsworld.co.za/search.php?search_query=shimano+m520&orderby=position&orderway=desc
