  1. I found that the climb up Hilltop is steeper than Boulders ( although it is shorter)
  2. Very sad. I was going to commute to work this morning but when I saw the thick mist I took my car. Many commuter cyclists do not have the same options.
  3. I am considering taking my SS for it's 1st race action. It will be good preparation for the SS race on 28 July
  4. Strangely enough we can "justify" the multiples:- EG shoes - each of us has 1 x road 1 x mtb 1 x SS 1 x spinning Bike Racks 1 x 2 bike ride on for when we travel together 2 x 2 bike folding racks - each car has one in the boot in case we need to transport one bike All makes sense to a cyclist
  5. Upgrades to crank, chainring, chain and sprocket completed. Collecting bike tomorrow. Still need to decide which saddle to use:- Silver SDG or Snakeskin SDG
  6. My bike is having a bmx crank set in polished aluminum, half link chain, and bmx rear gear fitted. i collect it on saturday.
  7. X 2
  8. I took a transfer to one of our divisions based in Witbank. We have made contact with some local riders and will start riding with them this week. We are 170kms closer to Sabie, Mankele, Swaziland and other good riding places. Wife gets to work from home and my commuting time reduces from 4 hours a day to 20 minutes. Much more time to ride our bikes
  9. 2 x road bikes 2 x mtb bikes 2 x ss bikes 1 x shared santa cruz tallboy We ride the size frame so swopping bikes is easy apart from saddles and brake orientation
  10. In the past three years we have given 8 bikes to various development programs. When we buy another bike we normally give one away.
  11. We moved to a new city this week. As my wife is away in Cape Town I have been unpacking without supervision ( interference). This afternoon I sorted out our cycling collection. Apart from the 7 bikes we have 8 pairs of cycling shoes, 7 helmets, 5 camelbaks and 3 Thule bike carriers. And we gave 3 bikes away before the move.luckily my wife cycles so I don't have spend my life justifying what I spend
  12. This is great information. I was thinking about doing a flatbar conversion as I never ride in the drops and I had found a spare mtb carbon flatbar during my move yesterday. Now I don't have to do any research
  13. My last payment is on Saturday. As the car I want will only be available in South africa in early part of next year I will be enjoying a car payment holiday for nearly a year.

  15. I have tried to enter and pay. I hope that Pieter sorts out our entries before the limit is reached. If not then I am going to be an unhappy camper
  16. Johnson Cycles in Edenvale
  17. I collected my new ss this morning. Pedals will be swopped for my time atac ones and the cranks are also temporary. I went for the silverback as I like the polished finish and the entire drivetrain( XT 2 x 10) could be donated to our other Santa Cruz Superlight
  18. The combined replacement value of our 7 bikes in less than one of our cars. But the sound system of my 1st car after varsity cost twice as much as the car did.

    Epic or Joberg2c

I could but then I lose you as a friend
  20. I FLY

    Epic or Joberg2c

Via a friend I have the opportunity to ride all 3 ( Epic, Pioneer and J2C) on a sponsored entry. The "new" Epic route and the "compete with Epic" Pioneer route do nothing for me so I have declined those two. I will do J2C again next year.
  21. Yes. You have to practise getting into your race outfit in the dark , in a small tent while hungover. It takes serious training.
  22. I went from MK - front RK - back -J2C combo to XK - front RK - back - last 6 months combo Today MKii 2.4 - front XK - rear ( slightly worn as it has been on my front wheel for 4 months.) I like Conti tyres and I like experimenting with the various combos
  23. There was a cyclist in Witbank who rode to the gym last week , did the spinning class, and then set off to ride home without any lights, reflectors, reflective tape and wearing dark clothes. Sunset in Witbank is just after 5pm now. I bought a high visibilty vest for him to wear. I am just waiting to see him at the gym to do the handover.
  24. I am moving from a 26er to a 29er and read earlier in this thread that if my 26er was a 32-16 the 29er should be 32-18. Why?
