  1. My commute starts at 6h00 and 16h30 so no real effect. I think that my non functioning office airconditioning unit will be more of a factor.
  2. Our experiences are:- 1. My SS commuter bike has 720mm bars and they feel just right 2. Our Tallboy was bought 2nd hand with a 620mm bar and it felt too narrow. We have replaced with a 680mm bar and are still fine tuning the set up so cannot comment yet.
  3. I found you before the race. My bike has the cowhide saddle.
  4. I will also look for you after the race. I am doing the 70km.
  5. Maybe it was a "veiled" golden handshake to avoid a costly legal/CCMA case? The Government have perfected this method of getting out of employment contracts.
  6. I think airlines insist bike is boxed/bagged.We had no problems with bikes in boxes last time we flew. Part of your luggage allowance up to your limit then pay excess at about R25/kg. If you know that you will have excess luggage weight then you can go online and prepay at a discount rate.
  7. In 2009 we gained about 50 places as WP1 on day 1 had brandy (which we don't drink) but we lost this time at WP2 on day2. They were braaing strips of Botswana rump steak.

  9. I ordered a multitool which turned out to be out of stock. Was offered refund or backorder option. I took the backorder option. I got regular emails from Buycycling as to status of my mutlitool order. When multitool arrived in stock I was notified. Two days later it was delivered No problems.
  10. That is is my intended course of action from next year. If it means that I don't race anymore then that is fine with me. However many cyclists are "obsessed" with competition and comparing themselves with their friends/rivals so they will not want to miss out on races. So unless a miracle happens and all cyclists switch off their apathy button nothing will change.
  11. Thanks for all the responses - sensible or not. I hurt my elbow/forearm by lifting my commuter bike incorrectly to insert the front wheel after the Gautrain commute. By the time I realised what I had done it was a chronic injury. Three sessions with physio had not effect. So to respond to the sensible posts 1. Mook - I have the elbow brace but as you mentioned it is a guard not a cure 2. Wanneberacer - I am trying to get a biokenist appointment 3. Blackdove - I will try those exercises. Interestingly I did them throughout my baseball/softball playing days to strengthen my wrists and forearms. 4. Morwa - I will try the Prolotherapy if biokenist is not successful 5. Patches - Tennis bracelet would be handy if I was trying to impress the hot lady cyclists but I know that I am past my "use by date"
  12. A few weeks ago we went to this Cajees store to buy some CO2 cartridges and one of the salemen tried to convince us that a Giant 29er was actually what we wanted. When we told him we were not interested he said that we were obviously rookie riders who had no idea about bikes. We have been riding since 1998.
  13. Ha Ha. I am left handed. Tennis elbow in right arm. I am not ambidextrous.
  14. I think the online shop - "buycycling" and the race organising are more profitable than owning physical bikeshops
  15. I have had chronic tennis elbow for a couple of months. I have tried physio, icing, stretching, and resting. Any suggestions re alternative treatment before I consider cortisone injections?
  16. Those are my commuting kms for this year so far.
  17. I have ridden my GT SS more than 6000kms this year. Costs so far:- New rear hub - R2500 - as original hub was not up to mileage. New rim - R800 - I do lots of pavement hopping Rear Tyres - R800 (3 tyres bought) Grips - R200 I have not serviced it or replaced chain, brake pads, sprocket or chainring.
  18. I did the Master Blaster race on Friday. By the end of the neutral zone I was about 1km behind the leaders and took about 11 minutes thereafter to catch the next rider. Speed in neutral zone was over 40km/hr. I also wonder at the purpose of the neutral zone.
  19. All Rounder - as I am good at nothing cycling related.

    Help!

+1. We have been using these all year and have to agree that they are the most palatable of all the bars we have tried.
  21. Nice bike. I think tri-bikes are works of art. But I am not a fan of the huge logos that wheels makers are putting on their product. To me less branding is best.
  22. I have a similiar difference in my legs due to polio. I had my bike set up for the shorter leg and found that the longer leg cramped a lot. So moved seatpost up 1cm. Been riding with this setup since 2000 with no problems.I have no shims or other adjustments to my shoes or cleats. My knees are still good.
  23. I was serious put off doing this ride by the tv coverage of the 2011 tour. It is meant to be a fund raising initiative for Children in the Wild. However most of the footage was of overweight riders standing/sitting/lying around stuffing their faces with endless piles of food and drink.Often with very skinny children standing nearby and watching in envy.
  24. I also have a handyman at work so I asked him to sort out my connection. He went to GT Electronic Components Towers Building - Suite 4, 136 North Rand Road, Boksburg Opposite East Rand Mall Tel - 011 823 1458
  25. My car's engine is bigger than that so savings are higher:clap: I do have to offset Gautrain fares, buying a commuter bike, lights and commuter gear against those savings.
