Was standing in Bree Street drinking a take away coffee, as one does and watched a city traffic official riding a bicycle ( with no helmet or lights) and simple cycle past the cars parked on the bike lane in front of Schmidhauser.
Knogg are great lights but shty construction. Don't buy! Cat Eye rear lights are awesome! I own one the slips into the Fizik Saddle. Very discrete and battery lasts a long time on flashing mode! Blackburn rear lights are awesome! I own a rechargeable for the commuter which needs recharging pretty much every day to insure that it does not stop working mid ride! Can only review these three!
Yesterday I took the steel MTB to work off some carbs. While on the promenade in Mouille Point I saw a woman get pushed of her bike by a sudden cross wind. Landed on her face and definitely needed stitches. Even though the event organizers warned people they still tried to ride.
It's settled. Im hanging up the Carbon and dusting of the steel to start later with a mate. Cycling is meant to be fun. I am also never going to complain about what ifs. Just get out and be grateful for my legs.
I'll be riding deep sections. The weigh the same as my very light alu wheels and for some very strange reason deal with wind better. Can anyone explain this phenomenon. Anyway 50 at the back and 38 up front. I'm fairly heavy at 84kg so will put some weight on the front wheel. Still I might be khakin myself but will ride in memory of my step brother that we tragically lost last year. Ride well brothers and sisters.
I only realized I was missing my tag going up Helshoogte. One of the event personnel checking bikes before entering the start shoot also missed it. A mistake I will never repeat!
No drama on my side. Although I did forget my chip two years ago at the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour so I stuffed my seeding up for last years Cape Town Cycle Tour. I landed up in 2A which to my delight was a very fast group. The winner in 2A came in at 03:03 and I a PB of 03:07. I give credit to the great weather conditions.
For those wondering about the wind...it is going to blow. There will be no miracles on the day. It is going to huff and puff and blow your house down. Fortunately with that out the way it won't be so bad if you work with your group. Take turns up front and enjoy the view.
This morning on Victoria road on the last corner entering Bantry Bay I was about to corner at speed when out of nowhere comes this twat waffle in his white VW golf and tries to over take me on the corner. I was moving at around 35-40kmh so naturally I am unable to keep far left. He then passed very close and started hooting and shouting out his window while cutting in front and then brake checking me Did I nearly loose my cool with this box!!! Only he seemed very irate and clearly wanted to use his car as weapon so I skidded to a near halt and just waved him away. Only for him to get stuck in traffic! I refrained from any confrontational behavior as I rode passed and cooled myself to try and enjoy the rest of my ride! All areas are dangerous so be vigilant!
