  1. Wannabe, sorry to hear that. What kind of business are you in? This raises an opportunity for us, I think. In my experience it is often the case that having a network of connections opens opportunities which you might have otherwise missed or not been aware of. To all here, I use Signal now rather than Whatsapp and I thought that those of us here who wanted to stay in touch outside the thread and either just swap stories, have a chat, arrange a ride or even perhaps talk about (un)employment, could exchange numbers and do so via a Signal group. Send me a PM with your number if you re interested in either just one-to-one chatting or forming a group and we can go from there. Cheers
  2. Nice Hairy. That's a nice ride for a Harley. I rode out there in Sept 2019 to see the daisies in Darling and thought what a cruising kind of ride it was. Once past Koeberg it really opens up. On a more current note, I just lost my job so I think I'll be spending more time here. Once I am vaccinated I hope to do some rides and make some videos and of course make plans for that coffee catch-up with you guys.
  3. To the renamed fella now proudly mounted on a Davidson, I have to say I'm loving your new avatar, identity and obvious pleasure and enthusiasm on this new lifestyle of yours. It's great to see it finally come to fruition.
  4. Interesting. I agree that HD riders are not the only ones who ride loud bikes but my experience is that ALL Harleys are loud and that is not the case with all other brands.
  5. I took a ride to Milnerton yesterday and got stuck behind two Harleys. I got to wondering; Why do Harley riders all want to make their bikes so loud? It's annoying even for me and I can only imagine how car drivers must feel about them. Ideas?
  6. Now you're just showing off. Seriously, though, I'm so happy to hear of people complimenting your bike. More accurately I'm glad that it makes you happy. You're seeing one of the many other sides of biking. Yes, the thrill of the ride is top but being part of a like-minded group, seeing the outdoors, immunity from traffic jams and receiving compliments for your bike are all part of the buzz and I'm so glad you're part of that ..at last. You are, after all, top contributor to this thread. ????
  7. Hairy, that's brilliant. And very quick. Are you in graphics by any chance?
  8. dustlover. Yours?
  9. I propose the name "the Hairy Davidsons".
  10. The answer to this Harley comraderie is easy: Adversity makes strange bedfellows. Observed by none other than Shakespeare himself.
  11. The ADV riders are all there. This is just a smallish but very friendly thread for all of us who love bikes. I wish one day we could all meet up post Corona for a chat. That Wilddogs site is very helpful and most bike shop owners are there so you can chat to them direct.
  12. Nice bike and welcome to the bike gang. There's been a danger around here lately of it turning into a Harley Owners' thread. . As for spares, have you seen this thread? http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?board=229.0 Or is the request from Flying Brick on your behalf?
  13. So: I asked this question on the Coronavirus thread and nobody answered so I'm going to try here with the Bike Gang.. Do any of you guys know if it's possible to get the first dose at a Govt hospital and then second dose at a private clinic? If someone received their first shot at a Govt Clinic but was worried about crowds or anything else, could they then choose (if they had Medical Aid) to go to a private clinic or a place like Clicks for the second?
  14. These are the ones I use https://www.dischem.co.za/hearos-ear-plugs-ultimate-softness-series-14-pairs-950
  15. Don't know which ones you use but like i said, I recommend the cone shaped jobs from Dischem. Efficient and cheap.
  16. My sentiments exactly. Although I found myself disagreeing fundamentally with some of the opinions voiced - and forming opinions on the people voicing those opinions - but I chose, like you, not to comment because, well, waste of time, right? But I do think that even disagreeable opinions should be heard and aired. Let's hope we all get to meet post-Covid on either a nice twisty tar road or an interesting dirt road, both with a great restaurant and view at the end. Ride safe boys.
  17. Guys, What are we going to do without this thread when Admin cancels it? It's going to be tragic but perhaps we can all stay in touch via a forum like Wilddogs. Any suggestions?.
  18. Ai, sorry to hear of the teething problems and I hope they're sorted quickly and simply. And for free. Other than that, welcome to the world of biking. It seems there's aways a reason to tinker. Make sure you get on good terms with your mechanics.

WrightJnr, I had a good laugh when viewing Wildogs last week and saw a WrightJnr having a good go at somebody although I can't remember what it was about - I think it may have been the Itchy Boots thread. Was that you? If so, I agree wholeheartedly and am dismayed but the type of opinions and values displayed by many of the comments there.
  20. In the UK, they put in steel Poles which narrow the road at various points. It takes a brave person to speed through them because they are very sturdy. One car at a time so one has to give way to oncoming traffic too which also slows traffic down. A bit irritating for drivers but also very effective. Perhaps a solution for your street?
  21. As an aside, I note the disussion around removing threads non-bike related. One of the things I love about this thread is the spirit in which things are conducted here. Views may differ and opinions vary but the common thing is the enthusiasm we all have for motorbikes and I for one have learned things from others here. I don't remember one acrimonious exchange. Long may it continue.
  22. Ja I can see how it can be. I find his approach different and used to enjoy it but have to admit I find it less so now.
  23. Yes, the torque and power to weight ratio of a bike is what hits the happy button. It's possibly the biggest kick, especially when pulling away from lights and getting away from traffic.
  24. A ride up Franschoek pass is just what you need. In my opinion it's the best in WC at least. As for the ears, I think it will take time for the helmet to settle around them. Also, putting a helmet on is an art. Here's Chaos causes in a humorous take on it. A tip from me. Wear ear plugs. I find them essential and if you don't, you run the risk of tinnitus or worse. I have the cone shaped squishy ones from Dischem and they are the best for me.
  25. Well there you go. That's eaxctly the right answer and attitude. I've never approached that and don't feel for a minute that I've missed out. Planned your first ride yet?
