  1. As a kid I rode a bike more than I walked. Always a makro cheap as special. Gave I up after a bad bmx fall in high school. Went away for missionary service for two years. Came home, got a job. Decided I needed to get off the couch. Looked at options - hated running. Knew if I joined a gym I would go for he first month and never go again. So thought about getting a proper road bike and so I did! Riding became addictive. So did strava. Now I'm hooked. No turning back now!
  2. The fact is, I have to apply the same people principle to cycling as I do to every other facet of life: EVERYONE ELSE IS A COMPLETE AND UTTER IDIOT, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THEY PROVE THEMSELVES OTHERWISE. I use this for work, for social situations, when buying, when selling, when driving, when cycling. May sound harsh, but it saves a lot of crap down the line... And keeps me alive...
  3. If you want to be treated like a vehicle, you must abide by the rules. While it does make sense, the fact is, law says keep left, pass right. Most cyclists who aren't your usual commuter on a makro special keep left.
  4. I use perfectly fitting zip lock bags in the back pockets... Two tubes, mini pump, levers, quick link, Presta adapter, valve key, and then loosely carry multi tool and 2 bombs... Fit nicely, the bike looks clean, and I always have what I need!
  5. Would be nice I think... I known the arguments for and against, but I think benefits outweigh the negatives... Especially for your everyday tool like me... Wouldn't mind more stopping power in traffic and more reliable braking... The rim brakes often make a little poo come out on long decent and a car thinks they can make the "gap".
  6. Contact them. I'm very sure they'll help out immediately! They're also in the process of opening a Ghost concept store in lazer park. If this is the service they give, ghost owners will be swing wide very soon!
  7. Just have to post this because I haven't had this level of customer service for a while. HR strap was giving me hassles for a while. Contacted BRYTON via Facebook and literally a minute later I was on the phone with Jason who tried to give me a DIY fix. Didn't work.. So informed them, they said they'll swap it out for free! So just fetched my new HR monitor at the new lazer park store... Really good service from a company which I never would have expected! Thanks Jason and Adam! Seriously impressed!
  8. Ha! I love the "make a reasonable offer" option! Something very cool in my opinion! Will try them out after payday
  9. That scene where Wiggans throws the Pinarello to the roadside... Made me nearly faint... Good race!
  10. I like that... Do you think the OP gets upset when fellow motorists don't wave? Seriously... I was taught not to speak to strangers. Just cause you're on a bike, it doesn't mean you're not a stranger. Sorry this is an annoying issue...
  11. Why must everyone be a little bitch about greeting? Wtf? I'm doing my thing. I didn't choose for you to be there. I don't have to greet you. The road is not an old age home. Have you ever considered that when you're stopped on your mtb, there's actually very little a roadie can do to help? We don't really carry the same spares... I get offered help by fellow roadies all the time, but no mtbers.. Why? Cause were a different discipline... Oh and one last comment. Why are you passing roadies on an mtb? Wasn't the whole point of your purchase that you would now go OFF road? Then go off road and stop being a lower when 3/100 cyclists don't greet. Oh... And also grow up. This isn't nursery school. Be a man ffs
  12. While cajees have good deals, normally will sell you a Scott... I find their follow up not so great. I've often been foisted old stock that doesn't work like you want it to. Mechanics aren't wonderful either. Tony impey cycles is a good shop, but I find them horribly expensive. Just last week I got ripped off on race tires. 85 rand more than cycle lab! And yes, you get what you pay for, but I'm sorry... That's not right. So go to dangle, see if he's got an entry level bike. At least he's close to the estate for services and such, and he has a rep to maintain on the hub! Good luck:)
  13. Bought a good set of head- and tail lights... Ride at around 6:30... Suburban roads, nice quick hour/hour and a half ride. In between, it's IDT interval sessions. I find if I go before I eat dinner, it's much better. Ride even if you have a had a long day/you're tired/its hot/its cold. Just get on the bike.
  14. Nou soek jy *** meneer...
  15. Wanker. So sick of this roadie vs mtb sh*t
  16. Walker. So sick of this roadie vs mtb sh*t
  17. What size is it?
  18. So for those who may still care, the wheel was collected now and all checked... They had to re tension the wheel, but all is working perfectly. Also, they didn't charge to fix the mistake, which was expected, but nice that I didn't need to fight. Thanks to everyone who offered help and advice, very much appreciated!
  19. Yeah! You guys take ct, I'll rep in jozi!
  20. That's disgusting. Lifetime ban should be order of the day. And most definitely prison time. This is why people aren't scared to break the law... Not even proper punishment when you get caught! Wtf?
  21. The problem is, the fill price from a shop includes things like the warrantee.. Like the fact that if anything doesn't work you can return and exchange. That's gonna be a big chunk of new price because it's part of the risk a shop carries. But you carry none of that risk when you sell second hand... So stop with the ridiculous pricing!
  22. Ok so we've had had a couple of classified related threads in the past few days, which have been moaning sessions for a couple of reasons... Well, here's mine. WHAT THE F*** IS UP WITH THE PRICES OF SECOND HAND GOODS IN THE CLASSIFIEDS? If I buy a golf gti, and drive it from the dealership to my home, lets say it's 35km at a push. That car is now second hand, and it's lost a good couple of grand off its value. Just by leaving the showroom floor. Now let's say I've bought a brand new frame... Paid 20k for it. I don't like it after three weeks, so I sell it on the hub. But I want 19500. Really? Come on... The tag line of "only done 500kms" means nothing. We all know that 500kms could be up to 10 or more rides on that frame. Who knows what abuse it takes in those 10 rides! And you want what you paid for it? Come on... Seriously, why the hell are we paying the ridiculous asking prices? All its doing is allowing the LBS to push their prices up even more because they know the second hand goods market. I'm sorry. It's getting out of hand now. One hubber had a line of "I thought the classified section was to help fellow hubbers". It's helping no one this crap happens. I don't mind paying what something is worth, but seriously, why do you guys who do this think you ad stays here for 4 months? Because you're being ridiculous, that's why. Anyway... That's my Friday morning rant off. I can't be the only one who's noticed this...
  23. oh sweet baby jesus what a pretty bike...
  24. Haha come on first offer gets preference!
