  1. I love both. I spend more on cycling because I get more back in terms of fitness, but golf golf is such a challenge that I'll always play it. It's relaxing, it's awesome, and great if played with your best mate. That being said, it seems like a lot of people are taking up MTB as the new golf rather than road... It seems like road is still very much that "elite" feeling... Either way, it's only a good idea for both sports. People will always and forever play golf, and the more cyclists out there, the more driving around cyclists improves, bugger market so better selection of parts and brands, and of course it keeps the LBS healthy... However... You play golf. You don't play cycling. They're two very different things.
  2. Take the tyre, tube and rim tape off. Should drain. Is annoying, but you should rather just wipe the wheels clean with a wet/damp cloth. Don't spray them with the hose anymore, and you'll only need to worry about wet weather or those pesky puddles...
  3. Will this be broadcast on dstv? Anyone know?
  4. The worst they can say is no. Ask them. Sounds like something they should replace tho... Hope you get it sorted
  5. so my cheap ziplock bags: tools: mini pump two tubes two quick links two tyre levers (gatorskins hang on tight!) presta to schrader adapter valve key/spanner? (for the extensions on the race wheels, lets me use normal length tubes!) additional packet for cellphone and glasses cloth two bombs multi tool which has chain breaker and CO2 inflator integrated microfibre snot rag also chuck a 100ZAR note and gel into the cell baggie, for just in case. everything goes in back pockets, the tools pack and cell bag fit in the middle, keys and tools and bombs in the sides. everything fits perfect and no moving around. waterproof tested a few times! eliminating the need for a fanny bag.
  6. Or his brother in law, Heywood Jablowmee. I hear he's a compliant guy.
  7. Yeah I got 1269... About ten more than my 94.7 ascent...
  8. Haha I was with you on the sterkfontein road... I was the one who recognised your bike:)
  9. Always the exact same MO. The lesson to everyone? CASH CASH CASH! DONT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS!
  10. Solomons. Negotiate for one of their Alex wheels, they will sell separately and it's brand new so non issue. Should set you back 600 at stock price... Have before your "special price". I bought a set as my "ride through anything without cringing" wheel set. Hella heavy but seem quite decent. Paid 1k for my set. Alternatively, contact richiebikes here on the hub. He might have but you may as well buy new.
  11. Yes! They had a stripe of team sky blue in the black kit? One of their riders was the one at the front later on who wanted to smack the guy in the Ford kit... Definitely doesn't sound like an accident... Anyway, official time is 3:24. Happy
  12. Will do this week! Thanks for a great little test! Just want to be sure I'm not fighting myself while riding... Expect pm soon:)
  13. Ha! Reminds me of when ours were first installed... They couldn't be painted for a week to let water they used react properly... We would frequently hear cars hitting them at massive speed! And then a youngster on a scooter sped down and launched off it, came off nicely! Even made the local paper... This despite the road signs put in place warning of them. Typical for our driving standards really...
  14. You may want to check with the local council... We had speed bumps installed on our very steep often sped down roads. Coucil was unwilling unless we ponied up half the cash, and they only installed big asphalt bumps. They could be illegal, or council approved but privately installed. Check it out if they're really a bug annoyance. Although I agree with above. Either slow down to a crawl and avoid completely but riding through at an angle, or get off and walk. They're just inverted potholes after all..
  15. Must say this has actually been something I've struggled with since school days (admittedly not all that long ago), always put it down to bad fitness but thinking back, even when training daily for rugby I was still a heavy breather... Always just felt short of air! Great suggestions here tho guys, thanks for the feedback so far! Will definitely get it checked out...
  16. Do I have to have a prescription to get hold of an inhaler? Or are they over the counter? It's really not good.. Feel strong enough and legs are there... But the breathing and heart rate just keep me slow on the hills... Still love my rides but this is ridiculous now! At first I thought it was just the result of being so damn lazy for so long... But it's time for that to be sorted!
  17. So I'm hoping someone here can help me... I'm not the lightest guy around (around 95kg), not fat but built big... and do have some extra weight, although it's really not that at much. I train regularly, and do add distance to my training. I've been riding since last year Feb. Regular training for me is ride every weekend (55 - 90km @+-28km/h), most weeks on a Tuesday and Thursday night (+- 30km @+-26km/h) both sessions will include over 500m of ascent. The problem I have is that I always sound like a angry asthmatic bull going up climbs... I'm huffing and puffing and wheezing, and just can't seem to inhale enough! I ride with guys who train far less than I do and they don't have the same problem. It's like breathing through a straw! After hard rides my chest feels slightly painful for most of the day. It's quite frustrating and slightly demotivating to not keep up with a group uphill! For some history: I have a post nasal drip, and as a child, suffered from croop at night. Never had amazing lungs. Never diagnosed with asthma but didn't really get it specifically checked for either. My older sister, who rides and does other cardiovascular exercise, says she has it, and her and I are most matched in terms of physical ailments and characteristics. She uses a normal inhaler and says it does wonders for her. So here's the thing. Does anyone out there have it, or have experience with exercise induced asthma? How do I diagnose this (or who would be able to in jhb), and what do I do to treat it? Are inhalers freely available or do I need to get a prescription? Or am I just fat and lazy and need to train more? I'm not by any means a front runner, certainly won't be getting on any podiums, but really want to perform well and hit my own targets.
  18. Buy what makes your belly button fizz when you ride it... Buy the one you want to keep in your bedroom cause you just need to look at it all the time and make sure it's ok... Nothing else is better than that bike. All the broken frame stuff is not too important when buying new... You'll have to a warrantee and change the important parts like saddles and stems and grips anyway...
  19. How did that crash happen? Anyone know? I saw one guy in front of the bunch wanted to deck this kid in white and blue kit, Ford kit if i remember correctly, who has earphones in... Seemed a pretty heated argument and sounded like the kid might have been the cause? Anyone?
  20. Yeah got shocked a bit by the last few kms... Really hit me hard but finished in under 3:30! Was quite surprised! Was about three bikes behind the crash going up the hill before hill snacks, stayed with A till I suffered on satellite! But all good, had a great ride and Enjoyed it thouroghly... Thanks to all the riders, very few asshats out there...
  21. Gonna start putting an age restrictions on the tour broadcasts with that kit! Hell, I'll have to cringe when I watch it with my mother this year...
  22. I don't use anything but water on rides under 100kms*... Up to that, my body has enough reserves to do it without hassle.. Of course everyone is different, but I doubt most people would need gels or things on shower distances. Your commuting? Both distances sound way too short to need gels. But I always carry one with my tools in case I feel like I might need it at any time during the ride... Haven't thus far! *races excluded... Then I sluk gels like crazy!
  23. I know im sure as hell not fit enough to stay with a... Just too slow on the hills! So will definitely be dropping off... If you see me and want to join in for a sub 3:45, hop on!
  24. I use white lightning crystal grease.. Clear, so it doesn't ruin the bike, is waterproof, non toxic and biodegradable... Mine ran me about 90 bukc from Solomon for 100g... Use it mainly on bb and threads, works like a charm
  25. Got my number today... Looking forward to a nice training race! Definitely not fit enough to aim for anything like a great time... See you there!
