  1. RIP and condolences to family and friends.
  2. See "the Military" album under facebook.com/old.bicycles
  3. RIP
  4. This type of disregard for others really harshes my mellow!
  5. You and I both. I still traumatise innocent bystanders when I venture out.
  6. Evolved to a higher plane?
  7. I am aware of your aversion to the stretchy stuff. I was ineptly referring to the generic cyclist. I agree it is the law and needs to be complied with. I appreciate that an effort is being made to deal with cyclist safety and I hope that these new measures will give all road users cause to reflect on their road behaviour.
  8. Motor vehicles require reflectors in situations where their headlights are not on, eg when parked at the side of the road. Reflectors are not effective in daylight. 4(1) requires a cyclist to have lit front and rear lights between sunset and sunrise. These lights will be visible long before reflected light is and if a motorist cannot see your lights, reflected lights are not going to save your lycra-clad butt.
  9. S4(1) obviates S4(3). Makes no sense.
  10. Payment made. Good luck and may be the wind be at your back!
  11. Sobering thought! Thanks.
  12. I agree with ccc2. I would not do Constantia Nek if Chappies is open.
  13. The roads are generally in very good condition and the municipality does a good job of keeping the roads clean. The current mess and storm damage is being cleaned up so everything will be fine by December. I have never had an excessive amount of punctures (very few in fact). Your Michelins should be fine.
  14. I apologise for the highjack, but I found it impossible to resist that set-up.
  15. Isn't the Grove that dodgy '80s club in Margate? I thought it closed?
  16. That's it. Constantia Nek/Main Road down to Hout Bay is narrow so keep an eye out for trucks and buses. Its a steep downhill so take up the lane behind a convenient car. All cars have to brake on the way down so there is no aggro. On the way up, just keep left and let them pass.
  17. I ride alone all the time.
  18. Not a real threat in the areas you mentioned. The roads are generally good, but Chappies is currently closed due to storm damage and we are waiting for word as to when it will reopen. You might have to go the other way around the mountain to get to Hout Bay, Camps Bay, etc. Still a good ride.
  19. Nothing more than a bit of hooting in the tighter area like Clifton, Bantry Bay, etc if you ride two abreast. Nuisance value only. Ignore it and its quickly diffused; react and you have about 10 seconds of gesticulating as they roar past.
  20. Hobbit feet!
  21. Some points are quite humorous, but my reading of the Hub and its denizens reveals that most can converse on a wide range of topics unrelated to bicycles. I think you may be projecting a little.
  22. A hockey practice ball should suit. Looks like a large golf ball. About R20 at Sportsman's Warehouse.
