  1. SANPARKS is there to protect our natural heritage for the use and enjoyment of all citizens. They have to balance competing demands of many different interest groups. By way of example, the Western Cape is internationally known as a Floral Kingdom. This is worth protecting in its own right, but has the added benefit of drawing worldwide interest and tourist money to the Western Cape as a whole. The fact that we can ride in Tokai, within certain guidelines, is something to be grateful for. I for one have no problem if a super-flowy, non-pedally DH line is lost if a plant, previously thought extinct, can re-establish itself. As this thread has shown, the regulations and guidelines are there to protect our national assets against the unauthorised actions of the puerile and the petulant.
  2. As a beneficiary of the hard work of Pain or Shine, Mayhem, others the identity of whom I know not and the many volunteers, I would like to say thank you. I am well aware that navigating a legal and bureaucratic minefield is not easy and I am grateful that we have access to the mountain. While I invariably enjoy my rides at Tokai, I freely concede that I have neither the skill nor knowledge to venture a meaningful opinion on the more technical rides. I accordingly thank those who offer their constructive input for the betterment of Tokai. I wish you all well in your meeting.
  3. Thank you Pain or Shine. So at best, a "professional" trail builder would be a passionate amateur and the "professionalism" of said individual would be based upon the esteem he or she is held in having regard to their commitment, passion and experience? Very subjective criteria. Edit: spelling
  4. What qualifications would a professional trail builder have? Are you merely using the term in the sense that its someone that claims payment for services rendered?
  5. Keep it. Its an interesting historical artefact.
  6. Assuming seller is underage as mommy alleges = voidable, but mommy clearly has indicated that she will not ratify therefore void. Mommy is telling porkies as to seller's age the contract may be valid but there is no practical way to enforce it, particularly as the purchase price was tendered back (or repaid as it now appears). As there was no delivery of the item, ownership did not pass.
  7. There is a distinction between the political party in the majority and the municipal council just as there is a distinction between the party with the national majority and the state.
  8. We have all done or seen cyclists do stupid things in the traffic, whether intentionally or negligently. Road users have to accept accidents can and do happen despite our best efforts. I believe that whether or not a cyclist wears his/her helmet is that cyclist's choice and I am more than willing to let him/her permanently remove himself/herself from the gene pool. I will however be very upset if I should be an unfortunate party to a road accident where the cyclist dies or is seriously injured where such death or serious injury could have been avoided by the wearing of a helmet.

Very slow, but I have no doubt the whip will be cracked before the Argus.

Chappies is A Ok but for a very short section opposite the entrance to Hanging Meadows - only a few hundred metres. Its a single lane controlled section while they clean up the mess (mud, rocks and twisted gambions). This is the very last section of Chappies just before the end coming from Noordhoek. The rest of Chappies was undamaged. Edit: spelling
  11. Imitaton the sincerest form of flattery?
  12. He did not strike me as a seasoned cycling veteran.
  13. I passed him as well. It looks odd to see a guy so kitted out without a helmet.
  14. No. Waiters.
  15. Calling waiter a waitron is like calling a student a learner.
  16. I have noticed that SAPS and the Metro clowns like to have their lunch/morning tea/afternoon tea breaks in the Adderley bike lane.
  17. Tres groovy!
  18. Pure class!
  19. Yes. Specifically, fleeing the scene of an accident.
  20. Only the jawbone if applied topically.
  21. My condolences to you and your family.
