  1. A bruised ego cannot justify violence.
  2. Its very difficult to argue with that.
  3. A bit off topic, but you are making a lot of assumptions.
  4. No, but you scared me with your uppercase.
  5. Context, yes. I have no difficulty in judging that the conduct I saw on the video as unacceptable and that it has no place on our roads. The context, while it may be of interest and explain much of what we saw, does not excuse their conduct. The posts by the club on FB makes the situation worse. Agree with you regarding the clubs.
  6. Yes, but the point I am making is that it is not a defence to excuse unlawful conduct. There will still be a conviction.
  7. When did this become a murder trial?
  8. Not legally. Can only be used in mitigation of sentence.
  9. Look at situation we saw on the video (and irrespective of what preceded the incident): the occupant of a motor vehicle was physically attacked by a large number of very aggressive cyclists. In the circumstances, the occupant could have legally defended himself forcefully. Had be been armed and inclined to use his firearm, the situation could have been very ugly.
  10. I disagree. Provocation is neither a legal nor moral defence. Have another look at that video and decide whether that is the appropriate response to having a water sachet thrown at you.
  11. Does not justify their behaviour. To placate a few Hubbers: what happened before that? Why would guys in a van pelt a large group of cyclists with "stuff". What is shocking is that the Club is endorsing the unlawful behaviour of its members. From their own communications it is clear that there have been many prior incidents of altercations between club members and motorists.
  12. Take your racist BS elsewhere. Race has nothing to do with their shocking behaviour.
  13. If it comes out that the driver had harassed a lone female cyclist or had tried to run someone off the road THE ACTIONS OF THE CYCLISTS WOULD BE UNLAWFUL AND UNACCEPTABLE and open to legitimate criticism as has happened here.
  14. Surv0MTB gave a clear and concise eye witness account and the video is pretty clear. Your allusions to HUB mob justice are a little misplaced in this instance. Irrespective of what went before, including your example, the conduct of the cyclists is unacceptable. The comments by Hubbers deal with that issue.
  15. I know. It is disappointing, but I would hope that it is all bravado and that the issue had been highlighted enough for people to think twice before acting out. It is unfortunate that people in general feel a lot braver when they have the numerical superiority.
  16. People are jittery this close to the Argus. A high percentage of the people on the Atlantic Seaboard at the moment are not from Cape Town. Apart from the huge increase in bicycle traffic, there are many tourists driving erratically because "they are on holiday". I know the scenery is inspiring, but they should pull over to do that selfy and not try to do it while driving. Why stop in the middle the road on Chappies to look at the view? During my Saturday morning ride I had three separate close calls caused by noobs that should have spent some time familiarising themselves with cycling before rushing down for the "big race". All of the incidents involved them pulling out in front of me from their hotel entrances when unsafe to do so and wobbling around, with their wifes/partners in tow, trying to clip in while I had to perform evasive manoeuvres with cars around me. There was no point in getting upset. I just accept it as part of riding at this time of the year. Add this to the notoriously poor driving of the locals. On the same ride, I had two taxis do dangerous U-turns in front of me. I am not excusing poor behaviour (I hope the clowns in the OP's vid are exposed and prosecuted), but merely reiterating your implied suggestion that people should chill and enjoy the experience.
  17. All cyclists hobble when they are not on their bikes.
  18. Glad your group are okay. It just goes to illustrate how the poor behaviour of one group can affect all cyclists. I am very disappointed that Hubbers would have been involved in that incident as the tense relationship between motorists and cyclists has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum.
  19. Totally unacceptable. I hope that prosecutions follow. I am also disappointed that none of the other cyclists in that group sought to restrain the more active idiots.

    Argus 2014

Its a false flat. Slightly uphill after the BP garage on the left.
  21. I'm very glad they do.
