  1. thanks.that she is.... did you just swop the two rings for the one csixx? It will be probably the route I would follow.... I think the 105 can handle up to 11-40 (unofficially). but being the woosy I am... I might just get a 11-36 as a test with a 42t front. and test. if the noise is too much or the rd does like the setup i can pop the two rings back on... still contemplating. but will first see what the result is with sleaving the cables.
  2. My bike is currently with the lbs. firstly to repair a buggerup they did just before the cosmos and to sleeve the bottom cables. I'll test that by looking for some muddy bits. Im still leaning towards 1x but forking out 7k on a drive train still hurts my insides (10km if I get a grx 1x crank as well - the chain alignment of slapping a 42 narrow-wide on a 105 crank bothers me a bit). Will let you guys know how it goes. thanks for the input so far
  3. any noise from chain ring when chain is on high and low cogs?
  4. one option I did conjur up last night in my attempt to bat above my average on Zwift was to replace the 105FD with a GRX FD. maybe it can handle muck better as the 105 isnt really built for that terrain? so that plus attempting a full housing below the bottom bracket (my momsen does internal cabling so rerouting dont think will work), could be a potential solution? edit: I will attempt the full housing first. My setup is due for new drivetrain but will hold off until I know. One thing I did read last night (that I didnt even think of) is the noise from 1x conversions from the chain angle on the biggest or smallest chain.... man I hate noise...
  5. That might just work... so I can run this until it reaches the narrow tube pushing up through the back of the seat post?
  6. oh wow.... didnt even know that was possible.
  7. Ive had the bike into the LBS a few times but no avail. I even replaced the housing and cabling just before the Cosmos 3 in 1. work perfectly until we hit the muddy parts.... then samo samo. luckily the most of the cosmos wasnt 50t friendly so it worked out alright.
  8. from what I read the 11 speed mtb rd's has a different cable pull than the 105 shifters. You can get away with a specific add-on on the derailler... but Im not sure. Its a bit over my head.
  9. Looking for some advice. I ride mainly on my Momsen R355 Gravelbike with 105 R7020 2x groupset. The most tarmac I ride is the bit between my house and where ever the gravel roads are (Middelburg is not road cycling friendly). I've even ridden two MTB races with my Momsen. What I have found is that whenever I hit any amount of mud, my FD just doesn't shift (the grime gets stuck on the cable on the bottom (where the BB is), or the FD itself). As soon as I shift to the 34t, I cannot get back to the 50t. Its massively frustrating to the point that I am prepared to throw a few grand at converting to a 1x setup 42 front and 11-42 back (might need to buy a GRX RD with the tensioner- ouch) for a smooth setup. (so , swopping out the rings on the 105 crank with a 42 absolute black wide/narrow-(buying a 170mm grx crank is insanely expensive), a new 11-42 cassette, chain and GRX RD... looking at around an estimated 7k expense). My question is basically a subjective one. Is it worth it? I'm currently only focused on my frustration at this point. Either the possibility of limping home every time I hit water or mud on a 34t chainring or losing some top speed and the small jumps between cogs (coming from a road background it might take some getting use to). I don't know of any other way to resolve....
  10. exactly what I came here to post... haha
  11. yep... bow to the man, pay 4 times the price and get to watch less than a 1/3rd (my estimate) of the races.
  12. welcome to a flawless year of cycling joy and the frustration of the wife!
  13. just for gcn. netflix doesnt like vpn's on the media box. but i have the same setup on my phone and tablet as well for loadshedding times. I know you can set it up on you router ... but i prefer the simpler route. I dont want the vpn running at all times. it affects internet speed, browsing, shopping etc.
  14. its a bargain... no jokes! worth every penny along with vpn costs. i run the gcn+ app and express vpn on my android tv. works perfectly
  15. is there a reason that its not gravelbike friendly?
  16. Ok..... I guess its time for feedback on my purchase. The Pirelli Centurato M 40mm. Ive ridden on tarmac, sand, gravel, stoney roads, jeeptracks, farmlands (no jokes) and very muddy roads (we are getting massive amounts of rain). None of these gnarly bits would have been rideable with the Pathfinders. They completely gave up traction with the slightest amount of sand or mud. But, man, what a joy with the Pirelli's! Many times I thought, its hike-a-bike time, but they just kept plowing through even the really gnarly stuff. Where I did had to push, was where the mtb guys' also pushed. Its due to momentum loss and not traction. The one "puddle" we had to traverse was literally knee deep water and soft mud - and that's on a road. crazy stuff. I really pushed the Momsen to its limits. The one trip was 96km and took us 5 hours. the other was about 65km and took about 3hours. Comfort-wise no different from the 42mm pathfinders. I rode them at 2.5bar at the back and 2 bar at front. No punctures and nice and comfortable. Where they did fall a bit short, was on rolling resistance on tar. The Pathfinders are much faster. We have a tarmac loop that we ride early mornings before work. My time dropped a bit, just from the tires being a bit slower. Even my training partner were quite surprised (not as surprised as seeing my bike plowing through mtb terrain though). But it just gives me a bit more training assistance I guess. Have to work a bit harder and get a bit fitter to hit those PR's again. Would I have gone for the 45's I don't think it would have significantly changed the handling in the muck. The 40's just would give up grip. Maybe a bit more comfort, but after 5 hours on the bike I was not sore (definitely paste from depleted resources, but not bumped to shreds). I would have lost even more speed on the hard stuff though, and I don't think I would have liked that. But the loss of a bit of speed, is an easy trade for the grip gained. Speed you can get back through training. So a big thumbs up for these bad boys. Absolutely amazing.
  17. its the 40's. they didnt have the tan walls available in 45's. so will test these. might get the black wall 45's as well. they are crazy cheap currently
  18. yeah pathfinders run great on tarmac and hardpacked gravel (although I have pushed their limits with gnarly stuff).... and thats about it. are you running 700x50? that would be amazing. Ive got the 40's on currently. but if I can run 50's for Barberton that be awesome
  19. She is looking flippen fantastic! Will test on tarmac with tomorrow morning's fast training before work. and a proper mixed road 90km on Saturday.
  20. heard of them, but never attempted. hows the rolling and grip? what type/size you riding?
  21. From the reviews' measurements yes. 40mm (almost on the dot). It seems with a gravel bike (if its your only bike) , I'm gonna need three wheel sets.... 1. For road with 700x28-30mm slicks 2. For "normal" gravel riding with 700x40-42mm 3. and for the tough stuff - 650bx50's...
