  1. ASG should be investigated by competition commission re acquisition of races from independent owners.

    Si

They have bought out most of the races on highveld, prices have soared over last few years and simply there is far more value in mtb events then in road races.

they can afford to run like Telkom as they have wiped out a lot of smaller guys.

Sho man, you just took this thread to another level????

  2. eish in my opinion the cut-off should be double winners time + 10%

because many teams go for stages instead of overall and those guys can afford to smash one day and finish at their own pace for the rest of the race .... make sense ?

Even with winners time +10%, alot of riders are gonna be out of Their comfort zone with this stage

Cut offs can happen anywhere right ? Like at A waterpoint for instance ?

  3. Acerunner didn't you do Cape Epic last year as well? I remember you started a Cape Epic thread then as well?

If so then single track Is no different to any other year. Crashes can happen anywhere anytime there is a lapse of concentration or pushing the boundaries. The single track of the TT covers a lot of the Welvenpas trails which has been part of the epic for the past couple of years now.

Yip, 4th one in 4 years. Ok gotcha ????????

  4. My mate went to test it and broke his collarbone 4km in. :( It would have been his 5th Epic.

    Youre joking????? oMwwww????

My mate went to test it and broke his collarbone 4km in. :( It would have been his 5th Epic.

Did he make a mistake or is **** hectic out there?

  5. if you're racing it, it's going to hurt so yes be concerned, if you just going to have a Jol & finish within an hour or 2 from cut off it should be breeze. That's just me it could be totally different for the next person. I would encourage you to ride it if possible before the event.

THnx for the feedback man but :

if you just going to have a Jol & finish within an hour or 2 from cut off it should be breeze. " Im not sure if this is going to be possible as your cutt-off is gonna be doubled the winners time, they fly up the hills and those relentless downhills. Im in Pta, would have loved to give it a go beforehand

  6. Epic is going to be sharp, rocky, thorny, dry and powdery....so any tyre choice needs to reflect that AND your riding style!!

If you're technically good and constantly pick your line, then you can possibly get away with thinner and lighter tyres. If not, take the more sturdy one's. Last thing you want to do if you're trying to survive, is plug holes frequently....

    agreed

  7. I see Bike Addict shop has a special on Maxxis Ardent 2.4 and Maxxis Ikon skin wall exo 2.2

Could you please advise on these, as we all know that the conditions down here in the Cape is dry dry and powdery.

will they put up with the long days..??

    Thanks

Yes they will, those Maxxis are very storng, but heavier than the Vittoria's, saw cyclesharp has the new cape cobra edition on special..

  8. Doing my 4th one this year, did my first Epic with the Racing Ralph knobbly Nic combo which worked great. 2016 & 2017 was with the Barzo Saguaro combo which was fantastic.

So because of the relentless terrain this year I would suggest either Maxxis or Vitoria, the only reason Im going with Vitoria is because they are lighter than the Maxxis.
