Will never foret. I am a bosveld boytjie and 100m was very far. Now that I stay in the karoo we shoot 100m gongs with the .22 for a joke and start on the 250m gongs with larger rifles.Go to a veldskiet and a guy like Corrie Prince shoots a 801 out of 800 hitting all the V-Bulls. All good though, but maks fork oil sense to me is the amount of cammos some guys wear at a veldskiet. As if the targerts might see them. We had a rooibok on about 280m and as we walked up to the targets the guy next to me was wearing full cammo and he shot a pretty crap group and I asked him " do you want to borrow my knive to finnish the rooibok ?" He uttered some fowl language and never made eye contact again

Hammer meets nail head. It becomes expensive. Shot my barrel out within 2 years. 2800 shots is a lot. We have a 400m shooting range on the farm so I can shoot a lot. I took into account what the price of a new barrel will be and could not get myself to pay 10k. Sold my rile to a guy(he knew the barrel was shot out and he was looking for the action) for 12k and bought a Howa. It was a Savage 243 mod 12 vlp with after market barrel, Vortex Viper scope and Boyds pepper thumbhole stock. Even this was pretty much entry level equipment compared to some guys at competitions. If you wanna hang with the big guys you need some serious cash. Wish I could fork out R25 000 for a Nightforce scope.

Remember brass become cheaper the more you shoot it. Pmp brass will work fine for 308. I shoot Lapua on my 243. Only because case weigh is pretty close and I go for grouping. If you buy brass for R12/case and you shoot it 10x it becomes cheaper... 1st shot R12.50 and last shot R1.20...

With his budget I would seriously look at a brand new Howa. Wildmans got some sweet deals. I got a .22lr with for free when I purchased my last rifle

I personally will use a 303 for a sea anchor or fence dropper. I have a 39-06 and 308. 308 is very accurate, but thats in a RSA action. My .243 i shoot 1.5" group on 300m and I can swing a gong on 500m all day long weather permits. Shot a springbok at 465m last year with .243 body shot. My friend did the same with his 308 , but a neck shot
