  1. Nice , so speak to your bro's, to get the "marshall" to share his thoughts on his actions. There is no rise to this traffic circle, so maybe we are talking of two separate incidents (there were obviously plenty then with HD riders). Above all, speak to the tail "marshall" who we had a talk to. He was not taking responsibility for his "colleagues" action. The marshall I spoke to seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Cant say the same for the others. This posts intention, is not to be derogatory to HD riders, its to have the ever so important "marshalls" idea, of why his ride is so important, to justify forcing cyclist off the road, or to stop, when these hooligans come through. And yes, I do have permission to use hooligans, the guys we encountered were !
  2. Hello Shaper. I know that maybe you mean well by this remark. Firstly, I did not mention all HD riders, its the douchebag "marshall", I bet he also wears a plastic badge. Secondly, I also do charity work, but don't brag about it, nor do I ride like I own the road. I also do not own a HD, but by choice ! Now that we think we know, who the club is, perhaps that isolated "marshall" would like to comment ? The word will get out, that its his face on those old style saloon "wanted" posters. If he is intelligent enough, let him substantiate his actions.
  3. To the "Marshalls" that escorted a bunch of Harley Davidson road hogs through the Cradle at 09h50 yesterday sunday 10 Aug, round the traffic circle close to the Lion & Rhino park. 6 road cycling friends were "pushed" to the side of the road, to allow these ever mighty road hogs to drive through unhindered. There were about 20 "motor cyclists" going through. Would these marshalls kindly explain, what was the purpose of this gesture. Are these guys so fat or their bikes so wide, that they need to resort to these bully tactics? The front most rider was riding 0,5m outside the yellow line, that demarcates the cycling lane through the cradle. We managed to speak to the tail marshall, and he did not take responsibility for his colleagues action.

    Lost city 2014

Thanks Gary, these are always interesting. Hope I can be as fast as this bullet train (530km/hr)
  5. Hello. Thanks for the replies so far. 11sp Shimano now has this option. The current/old Shimano 10 and 9 sp have different BCD's
  6. Do any of you know if there is a crankset on the market, whereby you can change the STD (53/39) for the Compact (50/34). i.e. the BCD/PCD of the bolts must be the same ? Thank you.
  7. Thank you Vetseun. There is nothing wrong with buying an unbranded Chinese carbon frame.
  8. There are people selling chinarellos all over the place, and there are many people consciously riding them. Get over this issue already. Its only a problem for people who don't have one.
  9. Lekker Its a crime free area, where you can enjoy yourself. There is a sign for "no shooting"
  10. Hahahahahaha , I have just received an email from ASG asking to buy the Jock 2015 entrance at a special of R520 , which means its a R200 discount. Wake up dudes , I wont pay R200 for next years Jock, if you do not address the concerns on the survey first !!!
  11. ASG, please take the recommendations seriously that you asked for in your survey, otherwise there will not be a next year !
  12. I just returned from The Jock this weekend. Well done to MP drivers who are courteous and respectful of the cyclists. We were usually all over the road, sometimes 4 abreast on the terrible Spitskop and Long Tom Pass. They patiently waited until it was safe to overtake, moving to the other side of the road. Corolary to this ? The first car to hoot maniacally was a Gauteng car.
  13. Well i'm doing it for the first time. I'm small built and love uphills, but decided to prepare myself with 50/42 and 11/28. Next year i'll know what to expect.

    jock comms

This is the most expensive race I have entered so far, with the worst info available and communication ...... just saying
  15. Drafting has aerodynamic advantages over speeds of 30 km/hr. If you find this is possible on MTB tracks, then go for it. In other slower cases, it could just be psychological. You can do it anywhere, but as Barney says, sharing is caring, do your bit at the front too.
  16. Lovely great footage. Comraderie was definitely larger than life. I like the way the cyclist stops at a bar to go and "liberate" some refreshments for his buddies. Also the one cyclist that carries on, despite his fatigue, and actually passes out on his pedals. In todays races (names intentionally left out) riders retire if its too cold or raining.
  17. The worst handling bike ever concockted
  18. Hi. Just hold out for a few months.... the best time to buy a bike, is right after the 94,7 , lots of bargains to be had then.
  19. bump to top. Everyone had a lot to say about this. Now we are sliding it under the carpet ?
  20. Hello afdElite .... Even more of a bargain then
  21. Just to emphasize what our two previous friends said ....... Spirog - Socially, the groups are like elsewhere in life.. say "Hello" and you'll start a conversation. Stare straight ahead and ignore your fellow cyclist - you might as well ride on your own. Pusher - Like any club it's what you make of it. and to answer some of your questions ... 1. This needs to be an average speed you are looking at, this is actually 5 different groups currently. 2. I believe the 1100 is worth it? Shirts are included, not the bibs. Consider that rdes are marshalled with back up vehicles ready for the rescue if needed. The race tents are a great opportunity to catch up with your friends after a race, and always something happening. 3. Does joining the jhb club mean I can ride with the fourways and Boksburg guys? Not sure about this, but ask your wife if you can also entertain your girlfriend 4. What's their deal with people trying out a ride? Snobby? Or is everyone relatively friendly, even though I'll just be taking a look? Look at the suggestions of our friends above. Hope this helps, and look forward to showing you around wen you decide to visit.
  22. I for one am happy about the route change. They have taken out the N14 boring bit. If they have taken out or added uphills, who cares?
  23. Hello Dale. I disagree totally, this is not a private matter. This had negative repercussions to the whole cycling community, as DJR says. This has to be a very public affair. The legal entities cycling SA cannot sit back on this. There was just a lot of talk about banning the club or individuals. Now its just being swept under the carpet. I for one feel insulted about this, as these actions do not represent me at all. This might lead to the next incident, where knowing that nothing will be done, mob justice will prevail, and these "cyclists" will be dealt with accordingly.
  24. What's all the fuss about ? They give you MTB'ers a little balancing challenge and you complain ... HTFU
  25. This is total crap, nobody takes responsibility for anything, as per usual. The most frightening thing, is that the law allows this to happen. The dirt has been swept under the carpet.
