    Events Calendar 2014

The Excel spreadsheet that you can download from the CSA website is usually very complete. I suppose they just need time, as everyone has just returned from the holidays. I'm also waiting on them to confirm my membership.
  5. Aren't pedestrians, cycles and small motorcycles below 150cc banned from highways, and the minimum speed limit is 40km/hr?
  6. This is interesting for use of bicycles in war ...... "Italian cycling champion Gino Bartali was recognised as “Righteous Among the Nations” by the Israeli museum of Yad Vashem, which has formally added him onto the honour list of the gentiles who helped Jews escape the Holocaust, media reported Monday. Yad Vashem wrote on its website that the three-time Giro d’ Italia champion and two-time Tour de France winner, who died aged 85 in 2000, “came to play an important role in the rescue of Jews” during World War II, Xinhua reported citing media reports. Tuscany-born Bartali acted as a courier for a Jewish-Christian network set up following the 1943 German occupation in Italy, transporting forged documents hidden in the frame of his bicycle, though he knew that he was risking his life. This network saved the lives of hundreds of Jews, the Holocaust memorial said adding that Bartali never spoke of his underground work after the war and hence many of his courageous endeavours remained unknown. Bartali will be honoured in a ceremony in Italy which has yet to be scheduled. His son Andrea said that he and his mother have been invited by the Israeli government for a cycling event named after the champion next month." Dated Sept 2013
  7. Hello people. Are there any rides planned for tomorrow Sunday 15th on the greater Jhb area ?
  8. Exactly - that is my gripe about critical mass rides here. Its a fashion show !
  9. The Dutch government, and Dutch people in general are innovative forward thinkers. no chance of that here
  10. If he acts like that, and has a biiiig car, then he suffers from small dick syndrom
  11. Gotta love the hub !!!!!!!! If i'm in the veld, and a driver rides within cm's of me, i'm going to %$#&*@ him up. This person is more of an idiot, because its in the cradle, and drivers know, that there are many cyclists around. Good luck Boris.
  12. Beam me up Scotty ... Everyone on earth are so behind on these human powered personal transporters
  13. By definition on the traffic laws, unless a human pedal powered cycle is mentioned for specific reasons, a bicycle occupying a road is a vehicle.
  14. I heard through 5 intermediaries that don't know what they are talking about, that its been cancelled due to lack of interest. In case we haven't noticed, its holiday time in December. All the Vaalies are down at the coast
  15. Skylark , please read the rules of the road carefully concerning overtaking - otherwise try MTB where you can do what you like in the bush. " Passing of vehicle 1) The driver of a vehicle intending to pass any other vehicle proceeding in the same direction on a public road shall pass to the right thereof at a safe distance and shall not again drive on the left side of the roadway until safely clear of the vehicle so passed: Provided that, in the circumstances as aforesaid, passing on the left of such vehicle shall be permissible if the person driving the passing vehicle can do so with safety to himself or herself and other traffic or property which is or may be on such road and – (a) the vehicle being passed is turning to its right or the driver thereof has signalled his or her intention of turning to his or her right; (b) such road is a public road in an urban area and – (i) is restricted to vehicles moving in one direction; and (ii) the roadway is of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles; © such road is a public road in an urban area and the roadway is of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles moving in each direction; (d) the roadway of such road is restricted to vehicles moving in one direction and is divided into traffic lanes by appropriate road traffic signs; or (e) he or she is driving in compliance with the directions of a traffic officer or is driving in traffic which is under the general direction of such officer, and in accordance with such direction: Provided further that in no event shall any passing referred to in paragraph (a), (b), © or (d) be done by driving on the shoulders of the roadway or on the verge of the public road concerned. - See more at: http://www.arriveali...ational#part1_3 "

  19. Hello Onetime. Brakes and fancy suspension, is something I would always bring to a reputable bike shop. There are too many "experts" out there today. The fact that they replaced hoses and a new service kit (usually orings etc), and you are complaining about spongy braking, or no braking altogether, would make me guess about wrong hydraulic fluid or improperly bled system. Run these ideas past the "bike shop" if they haven't sorted it out yet.
  20. Hi JohnnyReggae. Great attitude, I hope you did not feel upset by my post. Unfortunately, we are the "softer" party always. A good accessory would be to invent eyes in the back of our heads as well. We have to contend with all sorts of road hazards, potholes, taxis, motorists, and ........ sunday drivers. Unfortunately, this happened in your case. You have bruises, but have learnt something.
  21. Firstly JohnnyReggae , I'm glad you're OK. I'm going to go against the flow here, also being a cyclist, but you are in the wrong! Thank your lucky stars that you just probably got a "dumb blonde" that day, who is clueless to traffic laws, and was just very friendly and a good Samaritan. You are overtaking down the left hand side of a vehicle, - illegal, and overtaking close to a pedestrian crossing, - also illegal The lady could have expected you to pay any scratch dent etc, on her car door. Stay safe
  22. Suunto Stinger Dive Computer http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005N9E1.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg That's my favourite watch too ... if i'm not on my bike, i'm using it
  23. Try Stephen. He is here on the Hub stephen@sportsworld.co.za http://www.sportsworld.co.za
  24. Why are you complaining ? Its a single speed chain, which is the latest fashion at the moment. Single speed components are like Prada or Armani.
