  2. Just finish putting her together - to me it looks very sexy!
  3. +1 for the Trance
  4. There are quite a few different models still going around, as well as the shadow type vs the rapid rise. Check on the derraileur itself will be a model number, should be M7XX, then you can check online what the real-world difference between the two is.
  5. I am with Tarmac - XT is a good brake, but for the same bucks buying anything from Formula is an upgrade - modulation / power and weight they are truly unbeatable. I have Formula 'The Ones' on my current ride and in our last ride I swapped bikes so had a feel of Hayes Stroker and XT. You don't realize it as much moving on to a different bike due to the many factors that might be different, but back on Formulas you just stop so much quicker and controlled, hard to explain I guess, but I am sold on Formula.
  6. Nah, no money was transferred, he just disappeared after I said I want to see money cleared first, or he decided against it - can't really say he was scamming
  7. Yeah, said I will wait for money to clear or send through bike shop and the guy disappeared... Always trust your gut...
  8. Maybe I should ship it to a hubber or bike shop in Jhb? Think a bike shop will broker the deal for say R500? That'll probably be the safest option...
  9. Last question - having given my bank detail, I presume that is still safe?
  10. Never thought of that - how do they work?
  11. Cool - that is great. He was also quite adamant that it be sent overnight, hence being a little concerned. He also did not want to give a delivery address, insisting he will collect from the depot / post office counter. Will wait for money to show in my account - maybe have the bank validate before sending as well.
  12. Cool... Sounds simple enough. Have sold a LOT of stuff on the hub with no problem, Gumtree is probably just as safe, but I don't have the same kind of 'feel' as I have on the hub. Prices was quite low, so maybe that is just that...
  13. Just had a call from a guy who is keen to buy some of the stuff I am selling. This is normally good news, and he asked for some extra things to be added, I added the things and mentioned what I wanted for it. Now I might be paranoid, but I am used to a fair amount of quibbling and negotiating - he did none of it, just accepted the prices (which was fair and a bit lower than what I have seen on the hub), so he might be aware of pricing etc. When I asked for a delivery address, he said he will collect from the courier company / post office. If he sends me proof of payment, how can I know if it is a scam? Is there a way to verify the validity of the payment or what is the safest way to go about this?
  14. Oh yeah - also remember that it influences your BB height and seatpost angle as well, so your climbing and cornering will be affected as well.... Why would you like more travel? Do you find you bottom out too much, or do you want to change HA due to the benefits in going down? Maybe knowing what you are trying to improve will lead to possibly more helpful advice / changes?
  15. Nope, you lose about 1deg per 20mm. Remember that running a longer fork than the manufacturer max will place higher stress on your head tube and can result in failure.
  16. Eish - you XC guys and your high pressures High Roller 2.5 in front @ 1.5bar High Roller 2.3 back @ 1.7bar I weigh 90kg
  17. Hehe - this is becoming a very aggressive thread! Rock - you should try a drop post sometime - I went from 'normal' post to Joplin3 and it changed my riding for the better, thought that was enough, then upgraded to a 5" KS and it made an incredible impact on the comfort and confidence in riding. If you ride only XC, then yeah, it'll still be cool, but not as big a change. If you like to spend more of your trail time in the air than on the ground, then the post is worth the weight and money hands down! As for HD vs Nomad.... I think it comes down to preference, I am willing to bet large portions of money that the guys so far that said Nomad every time has not spend any time in the saddle of an HD, so it is not really an educated choice from personal experience. On paper they are geared for mostly the same riding, although the HD is definitely capable of more than the Nomad (BL won a DH race on one against 8" bikes), but more is not always better. So for me, unless someone who has actually ridden both (I have only ridden the HD myself), I would not add value to their opinion, but that is for me personally. As for Mikes' bike - make no mistake - it is VERY beautiful and sexy! Overkill for the type of riding for sure, as the frame it is definitely designed for more narly things, but then so is a 4x4 in the city, yet they are EXCEPTIONALLY popular. It is hawt and I say the best rider of the day is the guy having the most fun! Congrats and many happy miles Mike - you will certainly turn heads with that!
  18. Yeah, weird how little differences go a long way. Went from a 680 to a 710 on the Mojo to a 730 on the HD.... now looking at a 745mm for my Mbuzi
  19. Cool - maybe also look at CRC, well priced...
  20. Nope, no softie at all! My last fall had me on my back for two weeks, and, doing some contract work, no work, no pay - so I am all for it! I would look at the soft padding over the hard plastic ones, I have both and use the hard shell only when we go jumping or doing big drops. I use the Kyle Strait knee pads for the rest, and they work great. Guess it depends what kind of riding you do.... I bought a few sets until I found one that I liked (had to get from CRC as I could not find nice ones myself), so if you want, I can send you some pics and feedback on them if you want to take some of them off my hand. What area you in?
  21. A quick check revealed that I have spent just shy of R50k on my credit card there the last two years. That consists of personal purchases as well as paying for group purchases
  22. You do get a plastic sheath for the exposed part though that should alleviate it, if you look inside your current cable, you'll see your current housing has something similar inside. I got mine from CRC, but sure you can get them locally. You also get clips that fastens to the current brackets that can take the full housing, often used to convert a frame from v-brakes only tabs to disk brakes.
  23. I take it that you give the appropriate hand signals every time you want to turn or stop on the bike as well - or does the right thing only apply to motorists?
  24. Pitstop, we just getting into it as well, still faaar from skilled and smooth, you welcome to come with us if you interested. We mostly do Paarl and Eden as there are an easy line for every line that seems impossible. Drop me a PM with your cell and I can drop you a sms if we go? Typically Saturday mornings
  25. That is a beaut...
