  1. Make sure that the holes on your rim (28 or 32 or 36) is the same as on the hub. Check that the hub at the back will fit your frame as you do get 135mm or 150mm hub spacings.... The last thing I will do is to check the wear on your rims as you have been running V brakes.....
  2. Silverbak
  3. Agree..... Big H comes across as rude and a bit agressive (have seen this on more than one occasion)..... My advice just ignore him - it worked for me I further agree with some of the others that the LBS should be named and then they can respond to the "alligations". People always suggest that you should service your own bike but all of us don't know how to do everything and further don't have the time. If a LBS provides a service for which I pay I have full right to complain if it is not 100%. A service is provided which I choose to use or not - end of story.
  4. Howdy all, I have ridden plenty at Groenkloof and love the single track...... this weekedn I am going to ride at van Gaalens - have no idea what to expect - but I hope it is similar to van Gaalens..... Can anybody give me a short comparison of the two???? Thanks PB
  5. .......the foam becomes "brittle" after a certain time
  6. Can we buy ringside tickets for this meeting?
  7. Selling 2 - Giant simple 3 and simple 1 ..... Simple 1 was resparyed by myself and I added a triple clamp fork.
  8. Sorry, herewith some answers: I always go for UPS - unless I am not in a hurry (took about a week and a half for stuff to arrive through the Royal Postal Service). Yes, the pitch up at my house and I pay them with a check Otherwise you can pay UPS before hand.......just phone them get the outstanding ammount and pay via EFT. My last order was R2000. paid R350 for taxes and R370 for UPS (instead of R320 for post).
  9. V-Brakes: Rubber braking pads used to brake on the rim of the bicycle. Quite light (mass) but lacks braking power (will take you longer to brake over a certain distance). Lacks braking power in wet conditions Disc (cable): Has a disc that is used for the braking area. Has good braking power - will bring you to a stop in a shorter distance than a V brake. Also wet weather has almost no effect on the braking distance. The brakes is activated by a cable that pulls on usually a worm gear system. Need some grip to operate the brakes / pull the lever Disc Hydraulic: Same as above except that thebrakes is activated by a hydraulic line...... brake levers feels "soft" to pull With out question go for Hydraulic disc brakes the system is the best and offers the most .......
  10. figured I will drill the holes after the powder coating (drill the excessive powder build-up out).
  11. Sometimes the cable get pinc in the outer casing..... as your bike use the susspension and it compresses and extends the outer casing moves with the susspension. Now if the inner cable is pinched the movment of the outercasing due to the susspension being utilized pulls the cable causing shifting 1) Re-look at yout cable route 2) Replace your shifter cables 3) try leaving some slack. Hope this helps
  12. HI, I am thinking about powder coating my MTB rims (disc). Has anybody done it before? Any advice on the subject? My biggest worry is the following: 1) The heat associated with "baking" the rims 2) That the tire might not sit correctly / as snug as previous on the rim Any advice on the subject will be appreciated - Thanks fellow Hubbers! PB
  13. Very Very Nice!
  14. Yip went for UPS.... costed only R50 more but it was defintly worth it.
  15. Happy to see that they are attempting to adress the issue!
  16. I am very impressed with CRC and UPS...... I placed an order for goodies from CRC and Thuesday and yesterday (Thursday) I had it in my hand!!! I am impressed..... I ordered tires, DVD, Elbow, guards and Joplin remote kit..... I did try about 5 LBSs before going to CRC but none could help me with ANY of the bove items..... I guess CRC is now my LBS !!!
  17. Nope - ordered mine on Thuesday and today it is in the country (still on the wrong side of customs but at least in RSA). I heard there was some strikes and the heavy snow also did not help much.........
  18. Yip I had it with LBS as well..... they don't order, technically incompetant, clueless, and apparantly can not phone out from their premmises!? I buy from CRC and service my own bike...... and want NOTHING everagain to do with a LBS!
  19. Don't know if you found the answer yet..... here my 2c........ Chek your tire pressure (make it less), make your rebound damping more..... That is what I would have done. Cheers
  20. Hell Yeah......... 2010 is gonna be interresting.
  21. Optimization...... I think that cycle companies do the following (I would have): They buy a compeditors bike and see how they can optimize it and then sell it as their own (a couple of years later after optimization). This way they save a lot of money because they don't need to do all of the R&D.... That is why so many of the designs seem similar. Keep in mind tah the only reason a design will be changed is because the designer will thinkhe has improved it. Unfortuantly I sometimes think that the improvments is so minimal that us mere mortals will not feel the differance.......
  22. Nee f0kket ouens....keppies af, die MTB helmut het mos n visor? Daai ou het seker wit sokkies ook aan

  25. I thin SA had its first official SUPER D event??? Quote from the internet somewhere: A super D race is best described as a downhill cross country race. They normally lack the technical danger packed elements of the downhill and in most cases, have some significant pedaling. Usually, a Super D is a timed event and can have either individual start times or a mass, Le Mans style start where everyone goes at the same time. This is a great event a lot of people can enjoy. There isn't a whole lot of climbing so you don't have to be in great shape, although it doesn't hurt, and you don't need a $4,000.00 downhill bike to make it down. Any bike will do for a Super D race, but this category of racing is where the all-mountain/trail bikes with 4, 5, and 6 inches of travel can really excel. If you're thinking about getting into racing, but you think you might lack the endurance required for a typical XC race, The Super D is a great place to start.
