  1. Did you do any other races after last years 99er?
  2. Seatpost
  3. I’m in D as well.
  4. You mentioned roadies in your post hence my comments. Nevertheless, I’m glad you have clarified and don’t really want o go further into it. I just want to highlight this though: “The common thread is that cyclists have always done what I've described. Always.” I am a member of a club so do group rides often and I do loads of solo rides as well on the road and off road. When I ride with the club, we probably average between 10-30 cyclists on a group ride. For the most part, I would say we are well behaved. When there is a lack of shoulder, we try and ride single file. If there is a shoulder, we try and ride in the shoulder. Do we sometimes ride 2 a breast? Of course. Do we sometimes stray outside of the line? Of course. But we don’t do this intentionally and we certainly try not to do this when it’s a busy road etc. But yes, at times it happens. Just like a car overtakes a cyclist, a faster cyclist can also overtake a slower cyclist and unfortunately to do that, you have to kind of veer towards the centre if there is no shoulder. Unfortunately on this particular road between fish Hoek and Simon’s town there is no shoulder and it’s busy. It’s also a month before the Argus, so everyone is out on their bikes and everyone wants to ride the peninsula route. You are going to get people that swerve tot the centre. I don’t think 90% of the people are doing it on purpose or trying to endanger anyone. We just need to be more patient and understanding. So while cyclists may always do what you describe, 98% of them are not trying to be entitled idiots. Society has just engrained it into our thinking that cyclists are assholes when in reality we aren’t. Humans are assholes and the 2% of that do give cyclists a bad name are probably idiots when they take their Lycra off as well. The rest of us are actually pretty decent people who just enjoy riding bikes.
  5. I always laugh at posts like these. Just completely out of touch with reality. i can also count on one hand the number of mtb‘ers that jump robots, ride 2 abreast etc. This narrative that roadies are the bad apples it’s completely false and needs to stop. Also annoys me when everyone acts all high and mighty when let’s face it, we aren’t perfect. We’ve all ridden two and three abreast and we’ve all jumped robots at some point. Let’s not kid ourselves and act like we’re all saints. At the same time we can all do better and try and be better but as long as you’re not endangering anyone, I think we should all just chill. Me having a chat with some mates on a social ride is not endangering anyone. Motorists can do better and be more patient as well. Chris is amazing at what he does and I get the message he was trying to get across but if you look at those photos, 90% of those cyclists are smiling and having a good time. The unfortunate thing is now we as cyclists get all the hate again. Why can’t a car just be a bit patient even if the cyclist is blocking part of the road? Like I said we can all do better.
  6. He didn’t actually call them out. He just asked for alternative kit options.
  7. I did a peninsula loop on the 14th January and that whole stretch from kalk bay right into Simonstown was beyond dangerous. I’m not sure if it was just the last of the festive season so busier than normal or if that is the norm these days but yeah, I felt a bit unsafe. Obviously now with Argus coming up, I expect that road to be packed full of cyclists. But yeah my experience has kinda put me off it and I much prefer riding over Llandudno. I will also add that when a cyclist stays as far to the left as possible, for me personally I think it invites a car to take an already tight gap. So when I ride a road where there is no shoulder, I make sure that the car is not going to take any stupid chances because the only way he can pass me is to go half on the oncoming lane or just be patient and wait for safe moment to pass. People might disagree here but that for me is much safer. Everyone needs to be more tolerant which is obviously easier said than done. Cyclists should not be riding 3 abreast but at the same time, vehicles need to be more patient. That particular stretch of road is so popular and is buzzing with people cycling, running, walking their dogs etc, it’s actually pretty sad there is no protection for cyclists.
  8. Best option would be over Kloofnek and then descend down via The Glen.
  9. City have to play Arsenal and Liverpool still so plenty of twists and turns to come. The game at Anfield could be a real title decider. Arsenal have really matured this year and gotten over that mental block now by beating City and Liverpool. I think it’s the first time in a long while we actually have 3 teams fighting it out. In a way I think this helps both Arsenal and Liverpool as now City have 2 teams to think about.
  10. Seeding also updated on PPA website.
  11. Some conties & hoogies fun this weekend.
  12. Alternatively, just ignore what he says and ride the entire race with him.
  13. Yeah if you read a bit further on, you’d have seen I realised my mistake.
  14. I think they have messed up the distances or something. 2:28 solo for a 100km insane. It’s probably 50km race.
  15. They’ll probably reopen again due to “popular demand”.
  16. Wave Z, Y, M? I definitely dont recall seeing this. What happened to H, J, K etc?
  17. I think the old route coming up Vissers was much more unique. Now it kinda feels like your standard Durbanville road race. Even Odendal is cut in half. Would be nice if they could actually get to repairing Vissershok again.
  18. Any event happening between July-October has a risk of being rained out. And that’s probably 90% of the gravel and off-road events. Nothing we can do about it though. 2023 was a terrible winter in terms of rain but we needed it as well.
  19. Im entered for the 100km race.
  20. Please provide evidence that their profit is more than 20% or is just an assumption?
  21. I attended the RvR race as well and also suffered that same delay. I think the big difference with that event is that was negligence on the organisers part wrt not having enough ambulances. So they needed to do more than just a discount and fair play to them they have done that.
  22. Just like you had to fork out the full costs, so did the organisers. There’s nothing we can do about the weather unfortunately. They actually do not need to refund you anything so honestly I would take the small discount. Until we get to add some insurance for event cancellations, there is nothing we can do about it unfortunately.
  23. Definitely pink. But I think it looks good regardless of colour.
  24. Yeah i think the winner of our group did 2:40 which is crazy fast.
