  1. I have a bottle cage cable tied between the bars. The most aero you are going to get. In addition I have a cage on my seat tube which stays empty most of the time. Again shown to be the most aero place for a bottle on the frame - if used. Nothing on the back except a small bag carrying a spares kit. Lightest and most aero solution possible (and the most cost effective). The trick is to learn to take bottles from the volunteers. My bike now rides probably 2kgs lighter than my first Ironman when I rode with three bottles.
  2. Was thinking of doing both. My partner is now starting doing tri's and thought about her doing the sprint on the Saturday. Ridiculous pricing for a sprint (whereas the standard is reasonable). (details were posted in the Energade thread). When okes get stupid greedy, I don't want to do business with them. Rather both of us do the new sprint in VDBL that same day (assuming they finally announce it).
  3. Fair enough but that is the provinces decision not TSA. If you don't want to represent your province, why not register as a Gauteng athlete? My point remains that you can register on the TSA site for your licence in five minutes. All the other stuff is the price for having a mountain and cold water. I am not saying it is right, just lay the blame at the correct door.
  4. You can moan when I come past you at your next race.
  5. No combined licence fee. Here is the breakdown: TSA is R400 for the coming year ASA is R80 on top of your club membership. Day licences are quite cheap as well. New rule is that you have to be a member of a club to do marathons. CSA is R75 plus: Central Gauteng - R75.00 Gauteng North - R25.00 Kwazulu Natal - R35.00 Free State - R75.00 Limpopo - R25.00
  6. I posted a number of points of view in the No Energade Series thread page 4
  7. Garf, you are the only fatcat at triathlons
  8. Is TSA a waste of money? I was in doubt, attended a CGT AGM and realised that an enormous amount of work is done by CGT and TSA committee members for free. I believe that not a single person other the secretary of TSA (a full time administrative position) earns a salary or any remuneration for the work. Please correct me with facts if I am wrong. I do think the fee to broadcast an event is ridiculous. I challenge any person who thinks they are getting ripped off to attend their provincial committee's AGM and make an informed decision.
  9. Categorically wrong. You register online at TriathlonSA.co.za. It will take you less than five minutes including payment. KZN and WP members have to join a club (that is your regions committee's fault, not TSAs). Does not stop you from doing the TSA online registration though.
  10. Damien from Midlands Ultra posted a lot of the costs but I think that got lost in the crash. I am on the Committee of Randburg Harriers and am involved in organising the running races. I do this as my payback for all the other volunteers that enable me to race. You will be amazed at how much time people are willing to give for the benefit of others. Triathlon does not have that ethos.
  11. BSG races typically had 500 to 800 entrants in the main races. Think they might have got to a thousand once or twice with all the kiddies races etc. BSG also paid a lot of people to work at the races (ie their own staff). Running races use volunteers from the host club which makes them a lot cheaper. How many triathletes or family members have ever volunteered at a race?
  12. Which is cheaper (a.) different smaller bike (b.) HGH?
  13. Details on Global 11 sprint tri. Sat 9th Nov. Entry fee: USD55 Bwahahahahaha, are they frigging nuts? Never mind that it is illegal to sell things in any currency other than ZAR in South Africa. (USD10 discount if you enter before 1 Oct) Relay entry fee is USD153. (+-R1530 for a 1hr 20min race) I need to get back on my chair now. Link here Olympic entry is USD65, Team USD181
  14. I see Global 11 have launched a sprint on the Saturday.
  15. Still only the Provisional dates.
  16. My Comm Law 1 class (25 years ago) went something like this: This is not an offer but an invitation to do business. When you get to the till, you make an offer to purchase which they accept. You will probably find somewhere on the mail it says E&OE meaning Errors and Ommission Excepted. This is an additional get out of jail card for them although not required. There biggest issue is a PR issue after creating an expectation which they are now going to disappoint.
  17. Any news on this? I see another series provisionally on TSA calendar: Triple Crown Offroad on 6th Oct (Buffelspoort), 13th (Pretoria), 20th (Emerald Casino)
  18. I expect a big Ginger Cat in a Borat suit at the top of the mountain cheering me on! Did not realise Roth was so close in the calendar. Definitely will try and come watch.
  19. Oh yes. It has focused my training so well. What about Roth? Or are you doing both?
  20. ADH finishes the ride at the top of the climb. No descending the big climb but there are another two cols on route.
  21. Thanks. Will look again.
  22. Ho Grondpad What program was the race broadcast on. Searched the program guide but cannot find anything. Thanks
  23. This is my big hairy audacious goal for next year.
  24. 10 Nov is the same as 11 Global at Sun City!
  25. Its a bottle shaped like a bar of soap (sort of). Must be completely difficult to actually drink from. The reality is that is legally acts as an aerodynamic fairing to improve the aerodynamics of the frame. They are not allowed to make the frame that shape. So chuck your spares in it and buy normal water bottles.
