  1. That is correct. Need to be a Club Member if you want a Racing licence. (ie Vets etc)
  2. That will put some well needed ooomph in my run
  3. Besides 3.5 beers and I will be well on my way to motherless.
  4. I think they mean just the alcohol content, not the beer part.
  5. 8000 calories for IMSA. Gonna be motherless before the first water point.
  6. I think the food scientists work this out when they design the product. Different carbs will have different calorific content. For us we just have to read the packet.
  7. Hi I have been on your website many times. Once I got some good deals. Most of time items are only available in XS or XL. Went on today found two items and put them in the cart. Showed in the panel on right. Clicked to go to the cart (ie the button immediately underneath the list of items in the cart.) Then told me no items in the cart. Lost interest, wasn't going to go through every item again to find the ones where there was stock in my size. The website is basically end of line/clearance stock and is painful to use. I urgently want a tritop. Sportmans Warehouse want R1050 for the entry level Core Top and R950 for the Core Pants. Eish.
  8. Had to search the net a bit. GU do not put their product ingredients on their own website. SA and International. Go figure. Gu Roctane R40 32g 100 Calories (yes the same as normal GU) 125mg Sodium 55mg Potassium But thats not all, there is more... 1220mg of a cocktail of BCAA Roctane also has 480mg of magic Omithine Aplha-Ketoglutarate . This is an amino acid. WebMD says: Possibly ineffective for improving athletic performance. Haha. Sounds like that extra R20 buys you a nice placebo effect

    Triathlon ......

Powerbar is my choice. It has a slightly crunchy texture. Precut the wrapper so you can just peel back with your teeth without leaving the aero bars.
  10. So I read some labels on goodies in my cupboard this weekend. Had to get a magnifying glass to read some of the 1.5 point print on some of them. I know the following: I need calories, lots of them. Despite marketing claims, the GI value of nutrition is irrelevant during intense exercise. I need Sodium and Potassium to replenish the electrolytes lost mainly through through sweat. GU (Expresso Love, my staple) 32g Cost R20 100 Calories from sugar only 60mg Sodium 45mg Potassium Gu Chomps 60g Cost R38 (per bag/2 servings) 90 Calories from sugar only 50 mg Sodium 40mg Potassium Powerbar Energise 60g R27 220 Calories from sugar, protein and fat 250mg Sodium No Potassium 32GI Foodbar 60g R25 220 Calories from sugar, protein and fat 68mg Sodium No Potassium 32Gi Endure Sports Drink R12 per serving 186 Calories from sugar only 86mg Sodium 74mg Potassium 32Gi Endure Energy Tabs R35 per tube (2 servings) 93 Calories from sugar only 43mg Sodium 37mg Potassium Rehidrat 14g R4.60 (if purchased is resealable bag) 48 Calories from sugar only 303mg Sodium 200mg Potassium So what does this tell me. That other than Powerbar and Rehidrat, the values are fairly consistent. Powerbar has calories from multiple sources which will add digestion. Rehidrat is really the big weapon against loss of electrolytes and could be useful in very long distance racing. Please add the values off any of the products you have so we can compare.

    Triathlon ......

Dischem. I wouldnt eat it during a Race. Too difficult to open and not easy if you have a dry mouth. But for training its awesome.

Yes. At IMSA they also have GU Chomps which are really good. You certainly dont need to replicate race nutrition for six months just a couple of rides. The advantage of baby potatoes is the skin is bitter and offsets the sweet flavour overload of everything else. They can also be stuffed in your pocket without making a mess. I take them plain.

For training get Race Food. Works out to about R3.50 for 100 calories. Very nice to eat. GU is about R20 per 100 calories. Bananas are so cheap they are almost free.

    Triathlon ......

Agree with everything you said except this bit. Unless you come from a running background, a marathon takes such an enormous toll on the body that your recovery will be measured in weeks not days. If you do this prior to IMSA, you will actually lose real training time. I believe for the non-runner your max run should be around 28km/3 hours. This will get you to the start of the last lap. From there your mind is what gets you home. If you have done enough 2.5hr runs your body won't fall apart. Besides a stand alone marathon feels nothing like the run at the end of IMSA. Just my opinion.
  16. Hi I see this event has been postponed to January 2014. I can find no confirmation on the ASG site. Please will you update us. Thanks
  17. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy aluminium in Jhb?
  18. Doesnt one of the big bosses have his own helicopter?
  19. There has always been a massive discrepncy between claimed entrants and finishers per the results. Obviously there are some non starters, a fair number of non finishers, some who ride without chips, but I get a sneakt suspicion that they include all entrants for MTB, road and kiddies in that number. Perhaps some one has some more concrete knowledge?
  20. Thanks. Won't be doing 80 in the aero bars.
