If they doubled the tax on cigarettes, how far would it go towards paying for eTolls?
  2. Haha. The big attraction is that I want to be able to say I raced up Alpe d'Huez clean. Something not many TDFers have done. The water is 15 deg. Wetsuit compulsory. (per the website). 2.2km swim, 115km bike, 22km run (dirt roads, not really trail run).
  3. Hi Garf A few questions: Do you know when entries open? I think you already have one on account of CCT. Do they sell out in 5 minutes? ie Can I get an entry? Is this a boys only tour or are you taking your better half? I am planning on Alpe d'Huez Triathlon a few weeks later and this may be an attractive option if there is a bit if an SA contingent. Both are awesome races worth doing. Alpe d'Huez can always be 2015.
  4. If Murray can come out the water with the leading pack, he can podium at any race he is in. He always has to burn too much catching up after the swim while the others sit back and save their legs for the run. On the bike and the run he is as good as anyone except the Brownlees.
  5. Not the oxygen specifically, I have the whole lot.
  6. I have your air, do you want it back?
  7. It is awesome when businesses promote good brand values through active citizenship. Which other businesses are actively promoting safe cycling? Engen have the ongoing radio ads - they get preferred business from me when possible. Well done to Anderson Transport!

Had none of the issues talked about. Occasionally has short counted a long set during the set but the total was correct when stopped. I think it is a fantastic device. The numbers are also big enough to see mid turn underwater even with my k@k eyesight.

  10. The problem with credit card payments is that in a card not present purchase (ie internet purchase), the cardholder has the right to repudiate the transaction. I think the time period is 30 days. If they refund you, you can still repudiate and get your money back for a second time. It is fraud but the vendor is at risk so they delay in order to reduce the risk.
  11. For that matter why not use normal MTB cleats? Never understood the reason for road cleats as they are more difficult to walk with. Please share the wisdom.
  12. Ben Johnson was stripped of his gold medal in the 100 meter sprint at the 1988 Summer Olympics when he tested positive for stanozolol after winning the final.
  13. Ironman offers a retroactive TUE process for age groupers. If you have a random test and test positive and it was part of ongoing treatrment with full medical history, they will grant a retrospective TUE. This stops SAIDS from being inundated with every athlete applying for TUE for every medication. I would imagine a different standard of scrutiny would apply if you are a podium contender or a middle of the packer. Makes good sense.
  14. The next paragraph from Wikipedia was left off the quote on the prev page: "Stanozolol is one of the anabolic steroids commonly used as a performance enhancing drug and is banned from use in sports competition under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and many other sporting bodies. Additionally, stanozolol has been used in US horse racing.[1]" Accidental ingestion seems unlikely. The nature of the conditions it is used to treat would indicate serious consideration by a doctor with understanding of exercise activities and thus the understanding of the need for a TUE. This ain't treatment for a cold.
  15. I do not eat white bread normally. But a white bread marmite sandwich is like eating lobster half way into the run.
  16. I thought the GU drink was so watered down that the taste was rather unpleasant. Bounced my 32Gi bottle out the cage on a speed bump so had to use GU for a lap. Yuck. On the other hand, the GU chomps that were handed out were awesome. They also had Power Horse energy drink (think that is the name). I think they were struggling to give it away.
  17. Track down the Bonitas sponsorship manager and email them your experience. When the purse strings talk to team management, they will listen more than to you or I.
  18. Probably 80% of the dangerous situations I saw this morning fall into this category. Leaving 1.5m would have put my RIGHT wheels off the road. Never mind the oncoming riders. SO did lots of crawling until safe, It is really simple. Tell your friends. Be safe.
  19. No yellow line, no shoulder = single file. Simple. Understand? Do it. No excuses. Tell your friends. Benefit: your parents and children won't have to come to your funeral.
  20. I agree about the positioning. While on the right it is directly in front of the following driver, I feel the left more visually shows that gap that needs to be maintained. Given the picture on the sticker it makes better sense. The sticker will mainly be read when cars are bumper to bumper/stationary so left side also seems a good option. Also front seat passengers will also read. Most of them drive too.
  21. Oi vey! I have never had a sticker on my car because all stickers look well like stickers. But bit the bullet and put it before Xmas. They will make a difference it there are enough. I know that I am contributing in a small way. It is better than moaning. You change perceptions a little bit at a time. This is one small step.
  22. Just phoned Cyclelab Fourways, they did have but all gone given the heightened awareness. New stock expected soon. Please phone your LBS.
  23. If you have a bike shop with these stickers on the counter then post here, you can get some traffic in your shop.
  24. On Saturday having a look at the cars parked at Something Country in the Cradle, less than 5% of cars had the stickers. With probably 50 000 of the stickers distributed in Gauteng over the past few months, I would have expected to see more. Will cyclists be defined as quick to complain and blame but not so quick to take even the smallest positive step? Behaviour of motorists will be changed by education and repeated awareness. The stickers contribute to that. If a motorist passes one sticker in his commute, it will make no impact. If he sees 50 every day, maybe it will get through to him. And that includes taxis! If you think that bright yellow sticker will ruin the aesthetic of your nice fancy car, get over it. Your life is more important. So today, take five minutes of your time, find the sticker you were given at 94.7 and go stick it on your car. Post below when you have done it.
