  1. Ho Grondpad What program was the race broadcast on. Searched the program guide but cannot find anything. Thanks
  2. This is my big hairy audacious goal for next year.
  3. 10 Nov is the same as 11 Global at Sun City!
  4. Its a bottle shaped like a bar of soap (sort of). Must be completely difficult to actually drink from. The reality is that is legally acts as an aerodynamic fairing to improve the aerodynamics of the frame. They are not allowed to make the frame that shape. So chuck your spares in it and buy normal water bottles.
  5. Faris al Saltan, 2005 Ironman World Champion, is the one to rock a budgie smuggler.
  6. Bought one from Cajees in Strubensvalley on the weekend. Paid R3500 (was superchuffed with the price). Took me quite a while to put together and get the setup right for all the bikes. Have not driven with it yet but seems excellent quality.
  7. Is your issue Chorine for sanitising the water or stabilised chlorine present in the water? Salt water pools still use chlorine for the sanitising action but electrically separate the chlorine from the sodium for a period. During this period the chlorine kills the bugs then recombines back to salt. As a result there is no obvious chlorine presence in the pool. Salt water pools are far more gentle on the skin, hair and airways. Typically pools are saltier than tears but not as salty as the sea. The water does not taste particularly salty but it is noticeably different to water with stabilised chlorine presence. VA Victory Park is salt water.
  8. A lot is explained here: http://www.cyclingsa.com/member.aspx
  9. Some provinces add more money to the R75 to be a member of CSA. Gauteng is another R75. To have a Racing Licence I think you need to be a member of a Club. Also saw on a race entry that if your seeding is more than 20% (1.20), you will be moved to Open Seeded, even if you have a Racing Licence. Perhaps someone can clarify this.
  10. Don't worry about the hill. It is a hill, you cycle them often. The wind made it really tough last year. On the way back to town, with the tail wind, it was way too dangerous to ride flat out. Was easily over 70kmh being pushed around by the gusts with wobbly mountain bikes overtaking each other coming into the wind up the hill in the opposite direction. Hopefully they have somehow created a better separation between the two lanes.
  11. Maybe they don't think you are 'the man' anymore
  12. A tip for those guys racing. It is so hot, your bike will stand in the sun for 3 hours plus from when you rack to when you race. I suggest you freeze your water bottles solid . They will defrost by the time you get on the bike and may still be drinkable. 32Gi tastes awful when it is the temperature of tea. Alternately put coffee in your water bottle a have a nice cuppa before you start to pedal. Yes it is that hot.
  13. Start groups are small enough not to have issues with kicks and punches. However, due to the extremely shallow water, there are a lot of guys who basically walk the swim or stop every 10m. The issue is swimming into the back of them. It was very difficult to build up a swim rhythm. That said the whirlpool effect of everyone swimming in a circle is quite unbelievable. You will take at least 10 minutes off your best time. Personally I found it exceedingly unpleasant.
  14. Send Crimeline the details. Likely will add to a bigger investigation and will get to the right people rather than over the counter which looks like an isolated incident which basically was resolved anyway.
  15. Do the old road seedings that were on the Cyclelab site still exist? Anyone know where they are?
  16. Thought I was gonna catch you out on this. Cameron Brown has 10 IMNZ victories but there was a 2nd place in the middle so longest run was 5.
  17. 2014 Athlete info guide is not out yet. Can't see them removing the right to crawl as it has led to some of the great IM spectacles. Go to Youtube and look up Sian Welch, Wendy Ingraham and Julie Moss. Also check out Scott Goodfellow.
  18. Lap is 4.2km. 10 laps of making your eyes bleed followed by two laps of running and you shall have had an incredible mid week brick session.
  19. First find goggles that fit your face well and keep a seal over a long swim without having to be too tight. You just got to try them out. Choose clear lenses for the pool and dark lenses for the open water. Turning your head into the rising sun as you breath can be quite unpleasant.
  20. I understand that wetsuit glue is basically black contact glue. I fixed a small tear with contact and a self adhesive puncture repair patch on the inside to add some structural strength.
  21. Actually Marc, TSA's response has been clear and supportive on this. The fault is the race organiser.
  22. I got the same reply, They did pay me. I am waiting for them to demand a TSA card at the next event.
  23. BSG did it last year too. They at least had the TSA numbers and looked it up. Momentum Duathlon require you to prove that you are a member by presenting your membership card. (per their website). TSA to my knowledge do not issue a membership card. I certainly have never received one. But it is wrong and TSA are now taking a stand on it.
  24. When I did the Momentum Duathlon a few weeks ago, I discovered afterwards that the online price paid includes a R30 TSA day licence fee. As a TSA member, I should not be required to pay this. There was apparently an additional queue at registration where TSA members are meant to collect their refund of the said R30. Instruction of this is included in the small print on the race website. After three emails, the organisers have agreed to pay the refund into my account on principle. The race organisers have the ability to spend some time checking all the entries against the TSA website (really easy) and then pocket those unclaimed temporary licence fee refunds for themselves. Certainly a nice little pile of money for the little effort. I have raised the issue with TSA who have been speedy and emphatic in their response: It is not permitted by race organisers to charge a temporary licence fee to a TSA member and put the onus on the member to seek a refund. They are in the process of sorting this out with the Momentum Duathlon and other race organisers. If you are due a refund from races in the series, I recommend you email Charne Bosman <charne75@gmail.com> from the race office and request it.
